Default Ongoing SU only crafting discussion

I've asked several times about this, hoping that there could be a forum for SU project discussions such as there are for the other stamp companies. I gather that at one time, almost everything on SCS was SU focussed. That has changed with the new member companies and increasing use of SCS by many divergent crafters and artists. (More strength to them, it is great they are here.)

I would like to be able to discuss projects made with Stampin' Up! images- stamps, papers, NEW things coming out, etc.

I would encourage people to avoid using this thread for either positive or negative comments about the company and its policies or practices.

It's about YOUR CREATIONS, IDEAS and ARTISTRY using Stampin' Up products.

I'm posting this on the advice of Jenn:

"Hi, Elaine,
Feel free to start a thread in General Stamping saying just this. I'm sure you'll find many who would enjoy a discussion that is SUO!
Have a happy day!
Jenn Balcer
Splitcoaststampers"

This is my first posting hoping that others would be interested in such a thread, since a separate forum is not happening.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I mainly use SU, I'm not a demo, just a fan of their products.

I read only the SU posts and the tool forum. I'm not a demo. I just love their products. Sorry about the double post. Splitcoast was having a glitch.

I use SU 95% the time. I read the SU posts and general posts. I'm here a lot so I'd love to see a SU thread! I not a demo either.

Me too! I don't look at any of the member company threads becaseu I really don't use the products. SU is where I started, and SU is where I have remained. I'm not a demo either. I sometimes wish I could read the demo side!

I would love this. I'm just a customer, but I only use SU, because I have to stop somewhere...lol! I love their products and I'm happy with them, so I don't really want to be tempted by other stuff I "need" to have. I know my weakness and try to limit it!

Great to see all your responses! I don't have a big master plan or anything, so I'm just thinking of a few conversation topics off the top of my head.
Jump in anywhere you like.
1. Techniques- there are so many. How about if we go with the ones that SU has as tutorials in the catalogues and on their website. Somebody to care to pick one from this list for a discussion? If you have samples in a gallery, be sure to post a link.
http://www.stampinup.com/ca/enc/4282.asp

2. Products- what is new in the catalogue, and how do YOU use it? Happy you got it or not? There are several new things I haven't tried yet.

3. Something you want to share- a new thing you learned how to do, a way to learn or teach, a special card or scrapbook page or project for an occassion. Just remember, this is using SU, there are lots of other threads about all the other wonderful products available.

And to put my work where my mouth is- one of the first techniques I learned, at my second time at a SU workshop, was rock-n-roll. I used it for the leaves on this card:
Doodle Birthday by vanislandwoman at Splitcoaststampers

This is such a simple technique that I often forget about it. Just the gentlest application of the second colour around the edges of a solid stamp adds an awesom touch. In fact, I think now I will have to go make some more cards using this technique, or incorporate it into some of my scrapbook pages this weekend at the scrap event I'm attending.

I would really like to see SU have a presence in the SCS general forums. It doesn't have to be huge, just semi-equal air time with all these other companies. I would definitely come over here more often to post and contribute rather than staying only on the demo side because that's where the happy SU gushing and postings are : )

And not being a demo we customers do not get that opportunity.....maybe there will be a shift.

I want to say that yesterday, for the first time, I tried my Heat and Stick Powder and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. Wow, that was easy! I have had the H and S for almost 2 years because I saw someone use it. What a neat product! I use it on the Snowflake chipboard from last Christmas Mini.

I am curious about the use of Glossy Glaze Enamel....it's uses and how to apply it. Anyone care to tell me about it?

Hi, Cindy, thanks for posting. Did you do something to the snowflake chipboard before putting the dazzling diamonds on it? I always make such a mess with glitter, I seem to scatter it all over without even trying!

I still have some of those snowflakes left, I think.
I applied DSP to one. It looked good, but sure was a lot of sanding around all those spokes! I don't think I have any pix, but I'll take a look. Do you take pix of your projects?

Lissa and Cindy, that is why I've started this thread for now. I wrote once as a demo, and recently as a retired demo (but mainly SU stamper), hoping that we could get a separate forum, but I think it has to do with SU's business model being different from the other companies that have their own forum areas. Anyway, maybe if we get lots of positive traffic on this thread, the Splitcoast folks might find a way to give us a forum. Much easier than having to keep track of a separate thread, I think.

So thanks for participating.

Yes, I did.....Whisper White Craft Ink. Let it dry, then stamped entire surface with Versamark Pad, then dunked in the Heat and Stick, then used my heat tool, then added the DD and finally, heat tool one more time to set.

I will have to wait until tomorrow for some sun, cloudy and gloomy today. Not good for good photos. I have to confess, after I looked again, some of the snowflakes are Maya Road.....I will only take a pic of the SU ones. I am really trying to use up my stashes....if you know what I mean.

I agree adding DSP to those snowflakes takes way more time but, the effect is wonderful to be sure!! I would love to see your photos!!

I've just been sorting out my photos, and can't find a bunch of them- I have a vague memory of putting some onto a memory stick, which I seem to have lost! Organization is not my best talent. I'm going to get busy and take a bunch of photos at the beginning of next week, so I will post things as we talk about them on here.

Yes, see that's just it. I (as a lowly customer) feel like I must be missing something (the demo forum). My demo sent me over here, saying how much fun it is, but SU posts are far and in between. Where is all the fun for us SU stampers?

Glossy Glaze is essentially Ultra-Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) and can be used for the same sorts of projects. It is EP that is ground coarser than standard EP. It's great for coating dominos, doing Cracked Glass technique and anywhere you want a nice thick coat of clear EP without too much detail. HTH!

I too miss SC being only for lovers of Stampin Up products. I've been visiting SC since almost it first started. Most of my purchases of SU products were because of what people talked about or showed here at SC. I would participate in discusions here of things I've done or learned. And would be willing to share.

I'm not a demo but an avid customer - I'd love to have a SU only section. I never look at any of the other company posts.

I would love this, a lot of times I feel like i have to go to the Demo Forums to get SU discussions and I'd rather talk with people who aren't demos as well (to get a better idea of where my customers are coming from, as well as just talking to others who love SU)

I understand that SCS has sponsered companies but also lately I feel the General Stamping Talk forum is primarily sponsored threads, at least on the first page. JMO.

Well, for now we have a SU thread going right here and now, so just jump on in and start posting your SU cards, pages, projects, etc. Asking and answering questions about how-to is starting already. Let's do it, folks!

I'm going to be away for a weekend scrapping, so if others keep the ideas and sharing going, our thread won't drop off the top of the board. I look forward to catching up when I get back!

I never seem to know when to shut up, VBS.
Just one more before I shut down for the weekend.
Another favourite technique from SU website:
emboss resist: http://www.stampinup.com/ca/enc/4287.asp
and a link to my card(s) using that technique. It was time consuming but very satisfying.

Okay, be seeing you!

I am a bit confused? Are you proposing that there be a dedicated SU forum like for the member companies?

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of talking about SU, I am just not sure what you are proposing.
