Hi Everyone. I was thinking of getting some of these and was wondering which kind works the best. I've never worked with a spray like these before. Thanks, Angel
Also, what would be some good all-purpose colors to work with any color paper?

frankly i am happiest making my own. gives me more options for less money, especially if you already have reinkers. all you need is a mini mister spray bottle (the ones by ranger i have found work the best) and some perfect pearl perfect pearls powder - it is shimmer with no color. fill the mister 3/4 with water, add a little scoop of perfect pearls powder and squirt in some reinker, shake well. this way you can match your color to whatever project you are working on. the other colors of perfect pearls are also gorgeous. one of my faves is gold perfect pearls and red reinker.

Great idea! Do you know if it works as well with Pearl-Ex instead of Perfect Pearls?
I think I read somewhere that you can do that with pearl-ex but you have to add hairspray or gum arabic? to the mix as there is no fixative within the pearl ex and it can just wipe off on you hands... unlike perfect pearls.
I bought some Glimmer Mist in the transluscent gold (I think that's the name); I used it once on black SU c/s but foudn that my c/s curled. Did I spray on too much ink or is this normal?

YES you do have to use the Gum Arabic with the pearl Ex. I had pearl ex sitting around forever and had no clue what to do with it. now that I have discovered the gum arabic I have made my own shimmer sprays and my own shimmer paints and saved a ton of money in the process. The recipe I useed called for equal parts Gum arabic and rubbing alcohol and then 4 parts water mix it with enough pearl ex to get the intensity that you want and viola you have homemade glimmer mist.

Thank you Dellabella and Sammsmom1. I will give that a try as I have a lot of Pearl-Ex. Here in New Zealand we can get Glimmer Mist but it's expensive and not all colours are available, so having this recipe is a big help.

I'm wondering the same thing. I have the gold and the pearl Glimmer Mist, but my cardstock always curls too.

Bridget, it is normal.
Sometimes I spray the Shimmerz on really thick, and it dries really fast. To speed up the process I use my heat tool and gently heat the paper, then turn it over and heat on the other side.
Once it's dry put something heavy on top or in a book, like in the old days
I haven't had any problems.

I tried the shimmerz spray and it was nothing like the glimmer mist-GLIMMER MIST ROCKS!!!! It's sooooo sparkly!! (I sprayed just a little bit from a distance- had no warping)I was realllllly bummed about the shimmerz spray-I almost wonder if I got a bad bottle.....???

You may have not shaken it up enough, the Shimmerz spritz has the best sparkle I have found. If you turn your bottle upside down and then tap on the bottom while you are shaking it will loosen up the spakley particles.
But the baby's breath shimmerz spritz is a great all around color for any cardstock.
Shimmerz just launched their new website with better checkout options so you may be able to get them where you are. www.shimmerzpaints.com
I have GlimmerMist in several colors and love the colors but my cardstock also warps and I hate that. Also I pour it into the mini misters as I do not like the big droplets from their bottles that come in.
I use perfect pearls/pearlex mixed with unscented cheap hairspray and they effect is a gorgeous pearlized look.

Or you can just use a cheap hairspray mixed witht he pearlex.

If you're going to use this for scrapbooking I wouldn't recommend using hairspray. Its not acid free, so I think it would be fine for cards - that is if the people you give your cards to don't keep them for a long time (ungrateful people)

Okay I have thought about putting some of my Glimmer Mist into my Mini Misters because I have trouble with the big droplets, too. But I am concerned about inhaling something bad for your lungs, kwim? Anyone know if there is anything toxic in the Glimmer Mists?

I love the lighter colors of Glimmer Mist.
My papers always curl. The heat gun is good but if you want to speed up the drying flattening process try an iron, (LOW HEAT). I've had good luck with this!
The darker colors are nice too. Try using a sponge or texture tool, gives some other pretty designs.

I don't use it for scrapbooking just card making so I did not think about the acid-free thing. Thanks

I just spray mine over my garbage can so the excess spray stays around there and I don't make a mess as I tend to do that/.
Honestly, I have a TON of different Glimmer Mist sprays. I like them, but they seem to clog the spray nozzle a lot. My absolute fave (if you aren't making your own) are the ones from Lindy's Stamp Gang. I've had these for several years and they've never clogged the nozzle. Great colors, too. But be careful, there are several different types - make sure you're ordering exactly what you wanted, probably Glitz Spritz or even Starburst Stains. Moonshadow Mist is colored glimmer on top of a walnut-like color (ask me how I know! :rolleyes
ETA: plus they are waaay cheaper than GM! They come dry in the bottle, you add water to the fill line when you get it (so it's cheaper to ship too).

I had this happen with the gold glimmer mist also, used on confetti SU CS. I've read that if you make your own you should use rubbing alcohol and not water? Rubbing alcohol is pretty cheap so I think I will try this.
I really like the Gold Glimmer mist, it just really gives everything a beautiful shine. Just be sure to stay aprox. 6-8 inches away from the paper when misting.

Marking this for my future reference...thanks so much as I too have lots of pearl ex sitting around...one of those 'this' I had to have....lol
I used to be on the Shimmerz Design team and I can tell you that the Shimmerz Spritz has a lot more sparkle in it than the Glimmer Mist (haven't tried the smooch.) It almost always curled on me no matter what I did but once it was dry, I was able to make it lay down when I stuck it to my card base (or whatever I was gluing it to.) To control the spray, I used an old box when I sprayed it so it didn't get everywhere.
I also had an issue with big droplets so I just put them in one of my mini-misters. I also used the pearly/white bottle and added reinkers to make whatever colors I wanted.
I haven't used Shimmerz Spritz or Smooch Spritz, and I only have 1 Glimmer Mist and it is ok for a light sprinkliing of glitter.
Way back when, I made my own spray from all my colors of Pearl EX and all the bottles clogged so back I dumped it out. I think it would have been ok if I just made a small batch and used it up, but not good for long term use IMHO.
My fav is Superior's Memories Mist metallics in gold, silver, and cooper. I have almost all the MM colors and to get a metallic finish I over-spray with one of the metallics.

I have a few of these and you can create some really neat effects with them. I like to emboss metallic paper and then spray. The spray collects in the debossed areas and it looks kind of neat.
Thank you everyone for all your great information! I have alot of perfect pearls and Pearl EX so I'm going to try those two ideas. Also, I just bought a 3 pk of Glimmer Mist that had Glacier, Iridescent Gold, and Pearl. I'm probably going to also buy the Shimmerz Baby's breath. Thanks everyone!
