copic blender pen

Can someone tell me what this is used for? Or how to use it. I bought one but when I do try to use it I can't tell any difference on my designs. I thought you used it to make part of what you have colored lighter to make it look like shadows. I love making cards, but sometimes I just wonder what I'm really doing.....

This is a "colorless Blender". It will "remove" color. Great for shading. Copic takes a lot of practice. Keep going you will get it. Theresa Momber has great tutorials on her blog that she post just about every day. I hope this helps.

The blender pen removes the copic ink. So, if I go outside the lines on my image I will use the blender pen to push the ink back into the image. If I want polka dots or a weave pattern on a piece of my image I will use the blender pen to remove some of the ink from what I have colored. I also use it if I out line the image and want to soften the outline. The blender pen will remove some of the ink. It is not used for shading or shadowing. You get a shading or shadowing effect by using several Copic markers in the same color family usually 2-3 numbers away from eachother. It took me a while to get the hang of the blender pen too! Now I use it all the time.

Creativek9's is correct. You do get your color shading from within 2-3 markers within a color family. What I should of stated is you can get a faded look....like faded blue jeans, or if you want to lighten your color, Or even a "water color" effect your colorless blender is good for this. I have quite a selection of markers and it always seem I am missing something so this is where the colorless blender comes in handy for me. Keep working at it and you will get it. Copic markers are so worth every effort you give them.

I find the blender really good when colouring hair. It can give a lovely highlighted effect and can make the hair look more natural.

So can you tell me is the copic blender pen only good to use with the copics or can it be used with other brand pens? I tried it again last night with some stampin up pens ( my sister-in-law, gave me a whole box of her old ones) and it didn't seem to do anything. Does the part you want to blend have to still be wet for it to work or will it work after the ink has dried?

Stampin Up markers are water based, Copics are alcohol. The colorless blender will not work with water based markers but does seem to work with other alcohol markers such as the Prismacolor markers.

Warning!! The first copic blender pen I bought was a dud. I didn't realize it and thought the whole copic thing was nuts. But I ended up getting another one and realized that the first one I bought (from an art supply store) had NO ink in it! LOL

No wonder it did nothing.

So, test out your blender pen. Take some copic color, preferably a dark one and fill in a circle the size of a dime on your paper. touch your blender pen to the inside of the dime. Leave there a few seconds, pressing in. Lift up. there should be a MUCH paler shade, if not white where your marker was.

If not, you have an empty or dried out marker.
