I have begun making cards and I am wondering what is the best glue to use as I was using modge podge and that warps. What is good and allows you time position and reposition if you need to? Thanks.
Not a big fan of glue for card making as it just doesn't hold for very long, I prefer my ATG or Scotch dbl stick tape. I use the following glue for these items:
Covering chipboard with cardstock - tombow multi (from SU)
Embellishments - beacon's 3 in one (it's stringy but really strong)
Zig 2-way glue - for touch ups/small items
There isn't one glue stick that hold for a long time so I never buy them.
Welcome to the crazy craft we all love! I also don't use glue often , I prefer double sided tape as well, for the cardstock layers. For adding embellishments that need glue, I love SU's Crystal Effects, and it can also be used to glaze images to add shine.
The best liquid glue ever is Zip Dry. It never warps a paper, it gives you a wiggle time, and if you use too much and it comes out from underneath a layer, you can just wipe it off. It holds like crazy, I never ever had a card come apart when using that, or any of the embellishments come off. I progressed to using ATG, but that doesn't give any wiggle time, once it is down - it is down, it is not coming off.

I've never used glue. I do use an adhesive snail from Wal-Mart that works well for me. It's by Ad-tech and it's cheap and so are the refills. I've use double-sided tape at workshops. I like the snails better. SU has their own snail adhesive, but I've never used it. Everyone says an ATG is the best! I don't have an ATG.

My favorite wet glue is Elmer's No Wrinkle memory glue. I've only been able to find it at Walmart. It stands up to its name - no warping on paper at all. I love it.

ahhhh ok, you know that's an excellent tip, thank you. I have some glue with a fine tip but what I have been doing is putting it all over the area I want to glue down. Which what I should be doing is outlining the piece of paper, then laying it down. That saves on glue too and maybe it won't buckle and warp, as much.
Here's what I've found about the "favorites" that I've tried:
Mono Multi - smells great (it really does, try it), but has too much give for me usually and takes a long time to fully dry if you use more than a tiny bit. It also is not the strongest of glues, so it doesn't always hold on embellishments.
Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive - has a nice fine tip, has less give (and dries faster) than Mono Multi, however the tip tends to clog. When it clogs and you squeeze it to try to unclog it (as you're not supposed to open it) the tip can shoot at a high speed and hit you in the head and shoot glue all over you (it hurts too, by the way).
Zip Dry - dries very quickly, is great for sticking on embellishments or using with clear items/albums, can dry before your paper is adhered if you do not work quickly enough (I've had this problem with adhering paper to chipboard when using only a thin line of adhesive), has a strong odor that gives some people intense headaches.
Crafter's Pick (you can find this at Hobby Lobby in the crafts section and some LSS) - is thicker than most liquid glues and works really well, has give but not tons so you can move the item you're gluing down but it isn't going to float all over the place like it will with Mono Multi, this is actually my favorite but has one major drawback - the bottle tip is big and you can't make it a small detailed tip like Mono Multi or Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive.

Thank you for the run down on those. I think I would like Crafter's pick. I am going to have to stop by our local scrapbook store, Scrappin' at the Pink House and see what all they offer. Has anyone ever been there? It's in SC.

I've never used mono Multi and I have an unopened bottle of Scotch Quick Dry (it got hoarded away and was recently "discovered").
I tried Zip Dry a long time ago at a stamp show. I was impressed but it was very expensive (new product). I think the price is more reasonable now so it's on my list when I actually need more adhesive, or one for special projects.
My LSS also recommended Crafter's Pick and I love it except that I always have to unscrew the cap and dip a toothpick in it. It gets very thick but the toothpick gives great control. It's the glue I let my DH use when he needs to make repairs - he always says "do you have any really good glue?" After we both laugh, I get him the Crafter's Pick.
But, the majority of my cards are made with a variety of tape runners (SNAIL, Kyoku, AdTech, Duck) or 2-sided tape (usually Scotch/3M but I also use Rite-Aid's store brand).
I also love my Xyron machines (500 for card fronts and other large pieces and the 150/X for ribbon and small pieces).
Embellishments usually get a glue dot or some Crystal Effects.
I usually use Mono adhesive or a glue stick and then Stmapin' Dimensionals or Glue Dots. If you want to try the Tombow Multi, let me know and I can place your Stampin' Up order for you, it is $3.95.
Mono multi is my favorite, and I haven't found anything that is better! I get it at Hobby Lobby for 2.99 when it is not on sale. I only buy it when it is on sale, or I have a coupon, so I never pay that much.
I understand it is made for paper and other porous surfaces, so it isn't made to attach embellies. For that I use crystal effects or equivalent.

I love the Zip Dry too..... close alternate Beacon's 3-in-1 advanced craft glue - bigger bottle and cheaper, but I always use coupon and j-a's or mike's anyway
You can buy Mono Multi in Dollar Tree!! That's where I buy mine! It's the same exact bottle - even the same colors, just has a different name (I think DAP). It works exactly the same as Mono Multi. I'm pretty sure it's even the same product and manufactuer.
I use Mono Multi on awkward shaped layers or embellies. Otherwise, for layering and bases, I use Scotch double stick tape. Love that stuff & you can buy it in the grocery / pharmacy / Walmart so it doesn't really count against your crafting budget! (At least it doesn't in my house.)

LOL Sounds like you have the voice of experience here -- How much glue did you get in your hair?
Scotch Quick Adhesive is my fav and, until recently, I also had a problem with the tip clogging. I would unclog it with a straightened paper clip and that worked pretty well. Now I store my tube upside down and it seems to have just about eliminated that problem. I love this glue - it's my first choice. It holds like crazy and gives you a little open time to move your paper around. Works great for me.

I love MonoMulti too. I am just ill that my local store's stopped carrying it.
I do not live in the NorthEast but they have these store's called Ollies and apparently they carry a similar brand of MonoMulti called DAP. Maybe somebody could help me with the rest of the name. You can get it for $1.
Why I remember this is because I am jealous of people who shop at Ollie stores and shop at IKEA's, lol.
If your allergic to latex don't use MonoMulti.
I also use Tacky Glue. I have a light touch. I love my glue stick's. I have luck with them.
