CC231: Don't Fade Away!

I soooo admire the challenge hostesses, and really love what they come up with, so I'm totally stoked to be able to make-believe I am one, and host the color challenge this week!

We're doing something a little bit different this week in that we're incorporating a technique (oops -sorry, Mothermark!) - I mean a "trick", to get our color combo.

Here's the dealie-o: Stamp an image on any color cardstock you desire, using bleach instead of an inkpad. Whatever color the cardstock bleaches out to is your second color. Add a neutral, if desired, and you're good to go! If you don't have bleach - or are sensitive to it - and still want to play, I've attached four color combos from my own experimenting - just use one of those!

Here are a couple of helpful tips:

This trick only works on cardstock that is colored all the way through. White-core cardstocks have a coating to give them the color, as opposed to a dye, so they resist bleaching. There are also a couple of SU cardstocks that resisted. Oranges (Cameo Coral and Only Orange) and yellows (So Saffron, Barely Banana, etc.) basically did nothing or faded to white. Less than interesting, I’m thinking… Depending on which black you use (SU or non-) some fade to a cocoa or greenish shade, others do nothing.

Do the initial experiment on scraps to make sure you have a combo you like before you make an entire card with it.

PLEASE WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA when you use the bleach! You can’t share your gorgeous creation with us if you’re passed out on the floor or hanging over the toilet puking (also less than interesting, I’m thinking…)

This is not an exact science! You will notice on my samples that the consistency of coverage and bleaching is sort of lacking. You’re basically stamping blind, so you get some variation and it’s all good!

If you can, please include at least some of the bleached cardstock so we can see how you arrived at your color combo. It doesn’t have to be the focal point, but we’re all interested to see each other’s experiments, right?

Edited to Add: If you rinse your stamps - rubber or acrylic - well with plenty of water right after you stamp, they will not be harmed at all...

This sounds like a great challenge. I do have one question - Does the bleach harm acrylic stamps??? I have never tried this technique with acrylic and wanted to use one specific acrylic stamp.

Okay...This was the most time consuming card I have ever made....I couldn't get the SU! card stock to CHANGE! It just lightened it a bit. I ended up using the HIGHLY pigmented Via Brand papers, and it worked on them... I have found out the following from this experience: You have to use VERY NEW bleach. I tried the old stuff in the laundry room, (over 8 months old and opened), and it was a bomb...I tried newer stuff from the camper, (3 months old and opened) and it had the same results.

After I finished my card, my dad brought over some new UNOPENED cheapo bleach from Publix and it worked on the SU! card stock just fine.
