I am right between Syracuse and Binghamton, almost off 281. And a stampin up demo. I would love it if there would be a convention or something around here. I'm always seeing scrapbooking conventions through creative memories, but theyr never around here. I am also an AVID scrapbooker! How fun!
Doesn't anyone out there realize that there is another 4 hours worth of land north of Albany?? 3 hours north of Syracuse?? I knew when I opened this thread, I would be WAYYY to far north!! Nan--I don't think you are too far away from me!! Kerilou ps I would be soo game for a meeting!! Keri
This NY Nancy is further south these days - moved from Troy to Rockland Co. 20 miles North of NYC is considered Upstate to some! HAHAHA!
Good luck with the get together! FYI - there is a NY Art Stamp & Scrapbooking Show on Long Island on November 6th. If any are able to make it, please let me know. I'm bring 3 of my friends (2 demos, one former customer - I'm a former SU demo). I'd love to put the faces and names together! I'm in Rochester looking for stamping buddies!!! I just became a SU Demo (without attending a workshop or anything!!!!!!) so I'm up for a drive if there is a place to go!
This is too funny to see this thread! I have been thinking of trying to get something like this together since I saw all the other gatherings going on around the country and all the fun they have been having! and I live in Mechanicville which is north of Albany by 30 minutes and the closest exit is exit 9 off of 87 (Clifton PArk)....Can we get enough interest going to seriously start planning this???? When would we want to hold it? There are plenty of hotels in this area and plenty of other places to hold the event at a very low cost...

Apparently Kerilou and I are the only ones who know about the TRUEST Upstate NY... I am 65 miles South of MONTREAL Canada, and I think Kerilou is about 30 or so....Hmmmmm

That isn't true...I just moved from Gouverneur NY! and spent alot of time on the Canadian border near Massena....just there is just way too much snow!!!! LOL!!!! When a person can get used to traveling 1 hr each way just to shop you know you are in GOD"S COUNTRY as the welcome sign said for Gouverneur!

Where are you? I went to Potsdam and student taught in Alexandria Bay and Lafargeville. I have a good friend in Antwerp, I'm fairly familiar with the area.

I'm afraid that we are still way over to the Eastern Border of NY... Sometimes I wonder if anyone has heard of us....
I live in a WEEE little town called Cadyville, which is 3.5 miles East of Dannemora Prison (AKA Clinton Correctional) and 9 miles West of Plattsburgh, and 1 hour via ferry West of Burlington Vermont... 45 minutes North of Lake Placid (home of the 1980 Winter Olympics) and 65 miles South of Montreal, Canada.... hmmmm let me see if I can think of any other well known land marks...lol :lol: If you are ever in my area (don't blink cause you will miss us....) give a hollar....
We go to Alex Bay each summer (well actually Wellsley Island) and LOVE IT!!! BEEE U TEEEE FUL!!!

I grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY. Went to colloege in Troy, NY. Then worked in Albany, NY while living in East Greenbush, NY. I now live in Virginia. When anyone asks where I am from I say "New York!" Well, if it ain't the city it is considered Upstate! And I never considered myself upstate until I moved out of state!!!

I'm in Gansevoort - between Lake George and Saratoga. We consider ourselves to be "Upstate" but I know we are actually quite a ways from the top of the state! DS #1 graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam in May. We are a big hockey family and travelled many weekends to Massena, Potsdam, Alex Bay, Brasher Falls, as well as many rural areas of Vermont. I am in sales and cover all of New York, North of Poughkeepsie and the state of Vermont. I spend a lot of time with a couple of customers in Rouses Point and Champlain. It's a great place to be!
Rouses Point and Champlain are about 25 minutes from me....
You have to pass through Plattsburgh to get there...and I am 9 miles from Plattsburgh
I thought EVERYONE knew of Dannemora Prison, as it seems to be mentioned frequently on Law and Order Shows.
Wonder if I could get DH to get the inmates stampin....lol
They have an actual art program there. Some of the best paintings I have seen and other types of crafts have come from them. Every year they have a big showing at the County Fair, and they sell the stuff they make and from what I am told, the proceeds go to the victims families.

I would love to do some kind of gathering too! I am from Amherst a suburb of Buffalo. I am originally from way up north from a little town called Newton Falls. I have heard of all the places all of you have mentioned. (Gouverneur, Potsdam, Massena, Cadyville). I too used to drive over an hour to go shopping, how did I ever survive! There is a lot of hotels in the Amherst (Buffalo) area, anyone ever consider here?
I am just over the border near Niagara Falls, Canada! Am a SU Demo and loving it. I would travel as well to an "upstate" event. Please let me know if ever one is planned.
What about Niagara Falls? Anyone who has not been to the falls could get to sight see too even though its not the best time of the year for that. But I think soon they will be lighting up the falls for x-mas. I have never made it there to see it in the winter but I've heard its beautiful at night with the lights.
Since I started this thread - I guess I was not specific enough - LOL! Could we do something central to Most in NY? There have to be tons of people within traveling distance to the Albany (CAPITAL REGION) area - That would be Northwest Ct, Western Mass, VT, Up and Down I-87 and I - 90.....
Even if it is only a day thing - wouldn't it be fun??????
I am willing to organize or help organize! I am off exit 17N of I-87, (the Northway). Anyone want to throw out potential dates or locations? We have a new firehouse, also a short distance off exit 17N with a large community room and there are several other places near here that would be possibilities for a day meeting. I am also familar with Clifton Park and Latham and could probably find a couple of options there as well.
Sorry, I got a little side tracked, LOL I used to be from way Upstate NY (St.Lawrence county) and I started seeing familiar places and got all excited. I didn't mean to start mentioning different areas to have a gathering.
I would also be willing to help co chair this event! I live off of exit 9 near to Clifton Park...So I am close enough to even help scout locations around Albany...
