Buttons are really hot and I think they are great... even going to buy PTI set... question is... do you think you have to put thread in the buttons.. does it look better ? or can you leave it plain? If you do thread your buttons, what do you use? Thanks so much!!
I think you really need to thread your button. It just makes it look more polished. A nice neutral thread to use is the SU! Linen Thread or PTI's Rustic Twine. HTH
I think both ways are great! It just depends on the look you are going for on any given project. Yes, SU's linen thread is great! I use it a lot, but with certain buttons or some projects, I just prefer them plain.
i will use thread, embroidery floss, the cotton stuff for crochet, ribbon, jute, raffia... what ever strikes my fancy! LOL
Same for me! Sometimes I just don't feel like trying to get thread into those little holes! Sassafrass has some already threaded buttons that are really cute -- I've been using those on my lazy days (although they are more expensive then buying a bag of buttons and added the thread yourself).
I like them both ways I think it depends on the project. You can also cut really fine strips of paper and put them in there cover the holes with a rhinestone or glitter. Lots of options.
I absolutely hate buttons without string/twine/ whatever in it. To me, it just looks unfinished. kinda like when we all used to use die cuts that were one solid color and now we know if you ink around the edges or add eyes or whatever, it can look so much nicer. I think the string adds a nice finishing touch.
I use buttons a lot. Most of the time I tie my buttons with embroidery floss or twine. I have used some really tiny buttons though without adding anything. It all depends on how I think it looks.
I think it depends on the look you want and of course your personal preferences. If I am making something with a country or vintage look I prefer them threaded, but for bright, modern styles or masculine stuff I usually leave it out.
Have you tried stacking buttons or adding something like a rhinestone to the centers? I've seen some cute things done that way, too.
I just started threading my buttons with twine/floss. I didn't have twine until very recently and didn't think about doing floss, so I used to just do without. I love the way it looks though!
I like the look of threaded buttons, so I always thread mine. I have lots of different stuff I use, hemp twine, embroidery floss, crochet thread, craft thread. You name it - if it will go through the holes in the button I've probably tried it!

Wow, how ingenious! I would never have guessed that wasn't thread. Beautiful card!
Lots of times I don't because I am kinda lazy, but now that I think about it, I think they look better. I will probably have to do add thread/ribbon/etc. from now on.

I know some people have strong preferences one way or the other. For me, it all depends on the card. Sometimes I leave them bare, sometimes I use, raffia, thread, ribbon, twine...I think you'll just have decide what look you like yourself .
I use buttons a lot on my cards. I usually stitch them in place with embroidery floss or thread. There are occasions when I don't stitch them, but I usually do. Just personal preference. :grin: I have embroidery floss in colors that coordinate with my PTI cardstock since I use that cardstock the most.

Just curious; I do both! ;)
I tie a single knot on the top and leave the tails extending a little over the edge of the button.

Another question...what do you use to adhere the button onto the card? I use zots glue dots, but they didn't really seem to hold that well. I usually end up stitching them in place like Niki, but is there a lazier solution?
try e6000 glue, it adheres prctically anything. I also use FabriTac. If you lightly sand the back of the button, it sticks better. (i use an emery board)

Thanks for the hint. I like the sound of e6000 glue; it just sounds like it means business.
oh yeah e6000 MEANS it when it says 'use in well-ventilated area' LOL. You can get it in craft or even hardware stores sometimes. i use a toothpick to put it on, the 'hole' is too big otherwise.
i think i heard about it from either jewelers or miniaturists, but i swear Ty Pennington could build an entire house with e6000

Gasp!!! Use a naked button (aka unthreaded button), why it is just sinful. lol. Actually I prefer the look of a threaded button but I hate threading them so I often just use something else. Now isn't that just plain silly?

I don't like naked buttons on my cards & layouts, so I use Scrapper's Floss. It's relatively inexpensive and you get a lot (30 yards) in a container. I buy it from The Angel Company, not really sure where else you can get it from. I think it's made by Karen Foster. All I know is it is sooooo much easier to work with than embroidery floss, and the likes.
