Default Ribbon ring.. Anyone have this??

The ribbon ring system looks like a nice inexpensive way to store your ribbon. I was wondering if anyone of my fellow paper crafters have this and what you think of it. ( I think the only draw back is to wrap your ribbon around the ribbon tags!! This could take awhile, but could be done while watching t.v. !!) I have mostly SU! ribbon but looks like any kind/brand will work. Looking forward to your responses..

Yup - I have this and love it - I have 2 rings full of ribbon. It's easy to use and you can hang it anywhere!

YES!!! I did a review for Craft Critique a little while back. You can read about it here:
http://www.craftcritique.com/2009/04...ay-2-post.html

LOVE this system. Didn't think I would like having my ribbon out but I really love it and USE it so much more than before.

I have them and love them. My ribbon is hanging nicely on my wall. And now I use a lot more of it!

I have these also - two of the large rings full. I put a couple of cup hooks on the wall above and to the right of my craft table for them. I have to say that I use ribbon 99% more than I did when it was all on rolls in a box in the craft cupboard. Out of sight, out of mind you know. Needless to say, I love the Ribbon Rings.

Wow, I wrapped mine around little cards and put in a drawer. I found the idea on Becca Feekan's blog. I am such a messy crafter that its always in disarray! Maybe I should give this ribbon ring a try!

I just purchased two sets of these.. I have not yet finished putting all the ribbon on yet.. when I purchased them, I was hopeing that they would free up some drawer space seeing I have 3 big drawers full..

thanks for the idea to make my own with acetate sheets.. if I reun out i will use that idea..

Have it.
Love it!

It really didn't take that long to put them on the ribbon ring - I put on a movie and went to town.

I love being able to see what I have so easily. Andrea

I saw the Ribbon Ring but didn't want to spend that much $ on it or spend time threading ribbons...so I did something with the same idea but a lot less investment (time and money). This is just the curtain wire with clips from Ikea. I put 2-3 similar ribbons on each clip, and I love it, because you can easily take a clip off, try ribbons, and hook it back up...it's also very simple to add or remove whole pieces, with no threading.

Total cost now is about $20 depending on how many hooks you need.

I liked the idea of the ribbon ring, but did not want to spend the mula...as I have tons of ribbon. So, I used badge holders from Office Max and binder rings to attach them to. I hang the binder rings in the closet in my scrapbook room.

I made mine with my cricut also. I actually made a few hundred of them for a SU bulk ribbon buy that I did for my girls. I made tags and put them on binder rings and then put everyones ribbons on them as a thank you for their purchase. Everyone loved how pretty it looked seeing all of the streaming ribbons. Most of my girls say that they do use them more now that they are hanging in plain sight. I too think they are great & definitely use my ribbon more!! I made mine from the stiffer back pieces in the packs of DSP. I'd say make your own...save a few bucks and recycle to-boot!

I have 2 ribbon rings, LOVE them. I used to keep ribbon either on the rolls in a box or on clothes pins. I always forgot what I had. This way they are right in front of me, and I can see what I have...they are worth the $$$

You can see my ribbon ring hanging on the right side of the front of this green shelf. The other one is closer to my desk.

But as I am working I can just glance over and see if what I need is there.

I made the ribbon ring things using my Cricut too. Someone on the Cricut MB posted a DS cutfile for two sizes. I used the carboard backing that comes with SU's designer paper (as someone up above mentioned) and cut dozens. I have my ribbon hanging on the door in my craft room. I love being able to see it. Plus, it doesn't crease as it would if it's wound on the square ribbon holder things. I have about ten different rings of ribbon. They aren't full. I just wanted to sort them by color, type etc.

I used the bags, tags, boxes & more cartridge and used the round top tag in size 3" or 3 1/2"?? I can't remember exactly. I made 4 slits horizontally in each one with my trimmer & punched a hole in the top with my cropodile. I have no idea how to add a pic to this post, otherwise I would show you an example.

Aha!!! I figured out how to add an image!!!

Keep in mind, this was my first attempt at it & I cut very large slits in each tag....I learned my lesson while making hundreds of them for my girls that just a slice actually holds the ribbon in place better and it saves time by making just a slice versus cutting out a section like I did in the picture below.

These are GREAT! THANK YOU! THANK YOU for posting this! I am soooo going to make these. One more question, did you just use those snappy ??? rings for the tags and then just get a bigger one as the main ring? Okay, another question. How long do you trim your ribbon to off the spool to put on the tags?

Thanks again!

Default Clip It Up - sorta

I don't have the ribbon ring but I found this idea awhile back. I love, love, love this! I have taken the basic idea of this and created all kinds of little storage areas. It was cheap and it holds everything from snack-size plastic bags to ribbon on a card. I also took macrame rings - the 4" inch size - and key tags - wrapped ribbon around the key tags and put them on the ring and put the ring on the dowel for the organizer.

I used one binder ring per color family and then I used the same sized ring (because it was all I had at the time) to hang them all together on my rack. There was no rhyme or reason to my lengths. I doubled mine over the tag and as I use them I just cinch the ribbon so the ends meet so I don't run the risk of them falling off if they get too short.

Good Luck!! It is well worth the time & effort!

Do any of you have cats? I'm afraid my cats would like this idea way too much!!! LOL!
Of course I could keep the door shut to my craft room, but I'd hate to see the mess they could make!!!

Thanks for all the info. Will add this to my to do list for organization. I have extra clips from my clip it up, sixxiz tag die and IKEA towels racks. Just need the time to put it together. LOVE THESE IDEAS. Thanks again for sharing.

Do you have a photo of the curtain wire with clips? I think I like your system the best. I don't live near an Ikea though but maybe I could find something similar. I've thought of the shower hooks that clip - maybe I'll try those.

Thanks

Hmmm. Why couldn't you just use the round binder rings and slipnot the ribbon onto them. Then hang the binder clips on any type of rod or coat hanger? That would probably be inexpensive.

That's exactly what I did - used large binder rings and tied the ribbon at the halfway point thru the ring. Sorted ribbon according to color and came up with 10 different binder rings. They hang on my filing cabinet - attached with fridge magnet clips. Works great and cheap.

I think that's what I'm going to do. I've got several drawers of ribbon wrapped on cards, spools, clothes pins. They're taking up a lot of space that way and I have to dip through them everytime I want something even they are sorted by color. and I never know what I want. Okay, I've got to go shopping for binder rings today!!! Actually I may have some. I'm going to look!!!!

I used Sure Cuts a Lot. I don't have Design Studio. I have the .Scut files, the SVG files I made them from, and the jpegs I started with if your interested in those. I attached everything in a zip file. HPH!

I also attached pictures of my ribbon. I haven't been able to find the rings to hang the tags on yet, so I've got them hung on long wooden cotton swabs with eyelets keeping the ribbon from falling off ;).

I was thinking this very same thing. I have 3 cats that would have a field day with this and do not wants to always keep my craft room door shut. I store my ribbon using the behind the door "clear" shoe holders. The ones that have the pockets. Since it's clear, you can see through the pockets in order to see your ribbon and you don't have to cut the ribbon in 1 yard pieces. Plus, I have the ribbon sorted in color groups and I keep these hung on the front doors of my cabinets, so they are right out in the open and I can see exactly what I have.

I have 2 cats...one is too old to bother with ribbons and the other is too fat to jump that high. LOL

As for the wires...here are some on Ebay, the first one goes between two walls or a door frame, the second is for a flush wall.

I'll be heading to Ikea next week if anyone needs stuff that they won't ship...I know the flush wall set is only $14.99 there, and could go in a flate rate envie/box for $5.

I also cut my cards from my cricut using only the George cart. If anybody wants the file, send me a PM with your email address and I'll gladly share what I used. I have 3 or 4 different sizes for different ribbon widths. The first time I made them, I used craft color chipboard but it was nasty, dusty and clogged up my blade housing. This time around, I used the chipboard backing that is in the packets of DSP from SU. It's much cleaner, sturdier and looks better. And, most importantly, it didn't clog my blade housing.

As for the Ikea idea...I love it. I might even switch to that because it looks like it would be more manageable. The rings are not bad but the wire just looks easier. In fact, the first time I did the rings, I had over 200 ribbons on it and somehow never managed to get anything tangled or lose the ribbons.

For those of you who are going to CHA...there is an IKEA in Orlando!! You can get all kinds of awesome storage solutions there and for CHEAP!

Not that I have a system for my ribbon, but you could buy those curtain hanger clips attached to the rings. You would just need to find a place the hang the rings, possible a huge binder ring.
