Question Foil -- lots of questions

What kinds of foil do you use in your Sizzix/Cuttlebug/other die cutting and embossing machine?
Where do you find gold and other colors of foil?
If you use kitchen aluminum foil, is it heavy duty or regular thickness?
Can Nestabilities cut the foil you use?
Do you have any tips or tricks for working with foil?
Thanks for sharing!

I use heavy duty aluminum foil. I did a video on this and I used Metallic rub-on paste to age it. Here is the link if you are interested in watching the video:

Have you tried embossing foil w/a c'bug? Go easy on the thickness of your sandwich so as not to rip the foil.

For coloring, it's cheap, although perhaps not the best, but I really like Sharpies on foil.

Spellbinders sells this really cool foil. It's called Premium Craft foil and comes in all kinda of colors. The Nestabilities cut foil easily when using the Wizard. I don't have a Cuttlebug so I am not sure about that. The really cool thing about the Spellbinders craft foil is it comes in different colors. When you emboss the foil, sand with the sanding block - the silver color will show thru. Its neat!

I will attach an example in a minute - let me emboss some of the foil and take a picture!! LOL

Okay here is a couple of pictures. I ran the gold and copper colored craft foil thru my Wizard with the Flowers Impressabilities. One is just running it thru the machine and the other pictures shows what it looks like after sanding. I think you inspired a card today!

I bought a couple rolls of metallic foils at Michaels in the wood working section. They have gold, copper, blue, red, black and silver. All the colors have silver on the back so you could use either side. They were at one of the bigger Michaels. The smaller one by me didn't carry them. I think they were $8.99 or $11.99 depending on the size of the roll.

Your sanded foil looks fabulous, Deb!

I keep going on a mission to get you US girls buying your tomato paste in tubes rather than cans! The metal tubes are a gold colour inside - they emboss beautifully and are soft enough to cut with Nesties and regular scissors. There's more detail of how I use them and where to get them in the description of this card if anyone's interested: Frugal Blessings.

I used to buy the coloured craft foils but found them to be expensive. I now use the self adhesive aluminium insultation tape that you can get at plumbing stores. This tape comes on a roll in different widths and lengths. I personally use the 3" wide x 50 yard roll and it works out at only 25 cents per yard. It die cuts & embosses through the Cuttlebug beautifully, can be applied directly to cards/scrapbooking LOs or adhered to chipboard etc. + the adhesive on the brand I purchased is acid free so I'm not afraid to use it around photos. I use alcohol or artist pigment inks to colour the aluminium any colour I want to match my project. Very cheap & fun to use.

Saw a old DIY scrapbooking show a few weeks ago where a gal was using this tape and I bought a roll. Not sure if mine is acid free or not so will have to check. Thanks for the cool embossing idea! :-D
