Default History of Stampin' Up! -- All the catalogs?

Hi gang!

I just bought a 2003-2004 idea book, and it was really neat to look through it! I liked seeing how the style of SU! stamps has changed since then, and seeing sets that retired before I got started stamping.

I was wondering if any of you long-time stampers have ALL of the catalogs that SU! has distributed to customers. Wouldn't that be a cool resource to have?!? Does anyone have a master list of all the SU! idea books and minis and assorted catalogs?

Thanks!
Janine

Hi Janine,

Great question! The oldest catalog I have is the 1999-2000 one. It doesn't have an index, they started adding indexes a year later. I decided that this was the oldest one that I would collect, just because of the index issue. It gets really hard to find those sets without an index. The styles have also changed a lot.

Anyone have any more info about the history of the catalogs??

my oldest is 1996-97.......I think......... it's not very big......It's really cool to see how much things have changed since then. It actually has lots of single stamps, they didn't have just sets.

My oldest catty is from 97-98, back in the days when you could choose between foam sets or wood. I was just flipping through the pages and I noticed that Nice & Easy Notes was around back then; guess it's a classic. I also have every catty since that year, so quite a few. I don't remember minis back then - when did they start? Someone will know. Linda

Default old catalogs

I think my oldest is 98-99. I just love all of the "stitched" and country themed sets. I wish there were more of those available. I'm just not into the flowery sentiment sets in the recent catalogs.

Did they put a family picture in the front of every catalog? WOW! That's awesome! :-)

The FAQ on the Stampin' Up! website says the company was founded in 1988. Does anyone have one of the original catalogs?

Yes, the website will change drastically in January. It is supposed to be easier to use. We will now get subheadings that appear when you put your curser over the headings-no more guessing where something might be! I may have read it in January SS.

Wow!

I got an email back from the nice folks at Stampin' Up! today. I asked about their old catalogs -- if they had a list of them, and whether or not they still had old copies that could be purchased either directly or through a demo. The answers were no and no, but the lady who wrote back did say that their first catalog featuring exclusive SU designs was in 1997.

I find it surprising that they don't have a more detailed company history to share with curious customers. Does anyone remember what the catalogs were like prior to 1997? Has anyone on SCS been stamping for that long?

Yes, I've been using SU since 1993. I was a demo from 1995 - 1998. I had to quit for a few years then became a demo again in 2002.

The catalogs before 1997 featured stamps from many other companies and many single stamps. All of the sets could be purchased either foam mounted or wood mounted. The accessory section was much more extensive.

The demo kits were very different back then - you got a lot of accessories. In my kit I got a crimper, heat gun, sponges, chalk set, dabber fabric ink and pens, watercolor pencils, liquid applique, flocking, embossing powder and pad, stencils, and of course stamp sets and a couple of ink pads and ink pens.

They've come a long way, baby!!

I hate to throw out the dreaded "E" word...but, I got a bunch of old cattys ( dating back to the 99/00 one on Ebay. I hadn't found this site yet and was buying an occasional retired set online, I wanted to see what the original prices were to see if I was getting hosed.) Now that I know there were ones for 97 & 98, I may try looking for those too!

At convention one year (maybe this year maybe back in 2003) Shelli went through all the changes that have been in the company history. The first catalogs were photocopied sheets put in 3 post folders. Shelli, her sister and their kids actually put the catalogs together and the distribution center was Shelli's garage.

They have certainly come a long way.

I purchased the older catalogs from 1995-2003 from ebay so I souls get a feel of Stampin' Up! history. I stopped at 1995 because they were selling stamps from many different companies along with some of their own (and I couldn't afford to pay for the cattys pre-1995).

I do like the country "stiched" styles in the older cattys. I reminds me of another stamp company's current style.

I'm not at home to check, but mine are back to the days you could chose between wood or foam mounted. I have several sets that are foam mounted from 1996 or 1997. The catalogs have come a long way!

Default Oldest Stampin Up Catalog

I have the original 1988 Stampin Up catalog. I am looking for 1989 and 1990 issues to complete my collection. If I locate those, I will have all of the catalogs Stampin Up published since it began. Anyone out there have those catalogs? Thanks!

I think my oldest catalog is 96/97 and I even made an index for them thru 99/00 when they S Up added their own. Do enjoy looking at how stamp styles have changed as has my card making style. Would love to see the 1988 to 1995 catalogs.

My stash goes back to 1999. Not sure when the mini's and Sale-a-bration started, but I have all of those as well. Would NEVER get rid of my old catty's. Not only are they history, but I used them to research colors and DP's that I still have and use. Going to look at that link now

years ago I actually went on ebay to by catties back to 1988. At one point I had all catties and tons of flyes/specials/sellabrations. But then moving with the Air Force with less and less space I ended up throwing all out. I currently only have 3 years of catties. Just takes up way too much space. Plus since I started stamping back in '05 I am interested more and more in other companies.

So that big SU collection lasted about 3 years. I got mad at buying a stamp sets then SU turned around and retired it the following year, plus all the color changing and pad changing, new colors in-new colors out and the infamous 2 catties a year was ridiculous, just too much to keep up with. I'm not a "have to keep up with whats in and new crowd" I buy and stamp as what interests me and get rid of stamps when i tire of them. Just my 2 cents.

I have kept all the cattys from the last 11 yrs. I have most of the mini's too! I actually found some old cattys set by my work dumpster and ended up with one before I even started stamping.

I love taking a day ( usually a cold, winter day) once a year to go through them. It's such a blast from the past! Such feel good feelings come from looking at those catalogs. I see one from one demo I knew, some from other demos. It brings back our fun stamp camp group that no longer exists, etc!

Great memories!

I think the 2003-04 catalog is my favorite catty. I'm not real keen on the most recent years' catalogs. They take too much to focus on where to find the product they're trying to sell, what stamps are included, and how much, etc.

Oh my!!! I just took a trip down memory lane by scrolling down the 2001-2002 catalog. (I must peruse others soon.) Page after page of stamps sets I bought and still love and use with several great examples for each one. I even saw many sets I wish I had bought! Very unlike recent catalogs that I bought no stamps from and found very few great ideas pictured.

I'm not overly fond of the last few years' catalogs. I find them hard to "see" the product--it's like you have to search for what belongs in the set whereas in years past, that was never a problem.

Wow! I have some really old stamp sets that I still love and use. I just had time to look thru the 95-96. In fact, I had two of the sets out today to use on cards. The ink is so nice and dark so you can actually SEE it. Loved all the stitched stamps. This was easier than paging thru some of my old catalogs. What fun!
