Default White CS... again

Hello to you and thanks for tuning into my rant.

Before I begin, let me preface my rant by saying that I love SU! products and this isn't a SU! bash at all. I'm not a demo, but I am an enthusiast.

Now for the rant. White CS is currently the bane of my existence. (Okay, a slight exaggeration.) I was all excited to receive my last SU! order because I finally broke down and bought some Whisper White. I was expecting it to be the same as the colored CS weight-wise. I was SOOOO disappointed to realize it wasn't. I do love the smooth texture, and, after some reading, I think the weight difference has something to do with the dye that's added. If that's the case, I don't understand why they wouldn't do something to compensate for the difference. I wanted a heavy white CS that feels like the SU! colored CS, y'know?? Although the texture is far superior, I don't think the weight of the Whisper White is any better than the Walmart paper. I want a heavy white for bases.

I've heard that PTI cardstock is phenomenal, but their shipping to Canada is atrocious. Bazzil doesn't seem to be all that heavy either. Argh! It's so frustrating.

Any suggestions ladies?

Thanks,
Angela

GinaK Designs cardstocks have the smoothness of SU and the weight of PTI, the best of both worlds. She offers $5.95 shipping to Canada if you spend $50 or more. I hope that helps.

GinaK, GinaK, GinaK.

PTI's is wonderfully thick, but it's not smooth like whisper white. Lots of people love it, but I find that my impressions aren't super crisp because it isn't as smooth.

Gina K's is perfect, imo. It's super smooth, like SU!, but really thick!!

I love both PTI and Gina K. For cardbases I use PTI, but I also live in Canada so I make sure I need alot of items before I place an order because the starting base for shipping to Canada seems to be around $23 US, even if it is only a $9 item. I love Gina K cardstock for using with Copic's and Prisma pencils and the shipping is $5.95 if you order $50 or more in products. PTI White comes in packages of 12, 24 and 40 whereas Gina K comes only in packages of 25, which still works out to be 50 card bases or 100 1/4 sheets. I wish that we could find a source for the same quality PTI cardstock in Canada or that PTI would give us a flat rate shipping like Gina K does, I know that I would order alot more often from PTI if I got a shipping break from them. These are the only two places that I have found that carry good quality white cardstock.

I just got my first package from GinaK and ordered lots of the 120 wt card stock and a few other things and the shipping value was fantastic - that paper was really heavy but the shipping cost wasn't. The paper is awesome and I'm building another order ready to go - doesn't take long to reach $50.

I read that she's coming up with more colors, too. A couple of new colors are being released this week. I can't wait to see them.

Yeah, you really need the Gina K cardstock. It's outstanding. I do like the Papertrey, but the Gina K is even better.

I too have always been confused and disappointed by SU!'s white cardstock (Mind you, I love the colored CS). I have been buying white CS from the ofice supply store and finding it way better, which is so sad isn't it?! Last week I ordered some CS from Gina K for the first time and am still eagerly awaiting its arrival

I use Cougar Brand or Beckett from www.marcopaper.com
which I really love. They have all kinds to choose from.

I used to use Papertrey but was disapointed in their huge international shipping rates so I took a chance and ordered from Gina K. I love the Gina K 120lb Cardstock!! It is now my go to white CS and I cannot say enough good things about it. You won't be dissapointed!

Wow. Thanks ladies! I appreciate your input. I think I'll put in an order tonight! I just really hate it when you put in the effort to make a top-fold card and then, because you don't have quality CS, it doesn't stand up. I think I can handle $6 for shipping. ;)

I love SU! whisper white for stamping on but do not like it for card bases. PTI is great for card bases but not for stamping on. I'm going to check out Gina K paper.

So do you just use the Gina K for the base and then use say SU! for the layering? Wouldn't 120 lb card stock be too heavy or bulky to use for more than one layer?

TAC (The Angel Company) sells a heavy weight white cardstock that is a nice thickness and also very bright. FTR, I am not a demo and do not know if there are demos in Canada but you could always try the ISO forum here in Splitcoast.

This is my feeling, too. I love the way Whisper White accepts stamped images and color, and I like the lightness as a layer on a card base. Still, you can't have it both ways, I guess...;) Because it's nice and lightweight, I don't like using it as a card base unless it's a very, very simple no-layer card to begin with.

I have PTI cardstock and like it, but I would like an even heavier cardstock for a base. Looks like I'll have to try Gina's next time I order.

I'm wondering the same thing. That stuff is too heavy for a card base in my opinion. I just use it for stamping my images and using the Gamsol tecnique. It's kind of pricey too.

Hi-

I too had issues with the SU white cardstock. For years now, I have used Conqueror CX22 Diamond White Cover Sub #80 28.76M....their item number 1392. It is the best paper, ultra smooth, very white and stamped images are perfect. It folds great and is a good weight. The envelopes are good too.

I purchase from a local store that is only in two states. I checked and they do not offer shopping from their site. I looked online and found the following that sells it online. It is around $30 for 250 sheets.

http://www.limitedpapers.com/curious...-x11-1392.html

I hope this helps!

I'm here in Australia, and I also find it "not that good" to use Whisper White as card base because of its lightness. They should find a way to make it heavier or more sturdy like their coloured cs. Might try GinaK this time. Thanks ladies.

Have to agree that Gina K is the best for card bases.

I'm getting very picky about my white papers. I have Gina K for white base. Stampin Up for stamping in color/brayering/sponging. Neenah for Copics. Domtar white for printing sentiments, background layers or borders. I mix and match depending ont the project and don't think you can really tell a difference.

Gina K has the same cardstock in a "layering weight" - 80 lb compared to the base weight cardstock, which is 120lb.

I use Image Plus by Georgia Pacific from Sam's Club. It is 110 lb which I find is a good weight for card bases.

Also I use it for stamping and coloring images. It has a smooth surface and takes color well from Copics and Sharpies/Bics.

I agree georgia pacfic from Sam's club is perfect. I have tried the Gina K,it is too heavy if you use lots of layers like I do, the PTI are the Stampin up and too light. ....And the price..is Perfect less that $9 for 250 8 1/2 by 11 sheets of 110lb weight.

8.5x11 (standard paper size) is what I purch'd in the 80# and 120# weight. I actually prefer the 80# even for my card base..although I believe Gina K recommends (or suggests) the 120#.

I bought one of each to try...hahahaha...but I just love the brightness and smooth texture...awesome in MY opinion.

the SU shreds when it's that wet from lots of markers

Hope someone can answer this rather quickly for me (need to place an order!). I'm needing white CS to make fans for a wedding - does anyone know if the Gina K heavy CS would go through a printer easily?

That always depends on what type of printer you have. If it loads from a tray at the front, probably not. I have a front-loading printer, and it can't pull anything thicker than 80-lb cover stock.

Hmmm - anyone have any suggestions - I do have two printers, both front loading trays. We need something heavier than SU cardstock, because even doubled, it's still flimsy. Thanks in advance for any advice/help/suggestions,tips, etc.!

I have successfully put SU's Shimmery White cs through my front tray loading printer (an HP C6180). I'm not sure how "heavy" the paper is but I made no changes to my printer settings. It "seems" sturdier than SU's Whisper White but I don't have any Gina K. cardstock (at least not yet ... it's on my wish list!).

Good Luck!

I have an HP PSC 750. It's front loading, and it easily prints on PTI white CS. Some printers have a paper thickness option, too, which allows for heavier paper.

I use Georgia Pacific 110. I get that CS @ Walmart, and really like it - it has much more body to it than SU Whisper White.

I have loaded the 120 into my printer to print out a copic chart to color. (I didn't want it to bleed through so I wanted to use the 120lb. I have a top loading printer and it worked fine. I would NOT do it from a bottom tray.

I have a Canon MP620 if that helps at all.
I love my color chart! LOL!

When I posted my last post, I said "I would do it from the bottom tray." I meant to say "I would NOT do it from the bottom tray," just in case you didn't come back to the thread to see the correction.
