Default pillow boxes - cricut or big shot?

hey stamping and scraping gang!

i'm just wondering..... which pillow box do you think is better? the big shot or the cricut? i have both machines (the big bug) and am just a little disappointed with the big shot pillow box. omg it's waaay cute, but i just didn't realize how small it actually is! nor can i get a gift card in it, which was the point of me getting it.

so i just found out that cricut has a pillow box option (one of the solutions carts) and am seriously thinking of getting it because i know i'll be able to control the size. that's why i prefer the cricut actually. however i don't use either of them as much as i should!!

thanks for you opinions!

Yes, the Weddings Solutions cart has pillow boxes, and you have a variety of sizes to choose from with a Cricut.

I have both the Sizzix pillow box die and the Cricut Weddings cart. I've used both boxes and been very happy with the results, but you're very right about the size of the Sizzix one. It's pretty small!

As for which one you should get, it depends upon what size box you need. The Weddings cart makes more sense in the long run, IMO.

FYI, I tried cutting a pillow box out of acrylic on my Expression and it didn't turn out well. I haven't mastered cutting transparency material/acrylic on my E! It was really cute with the Sizzix, though.

What do you use to get the creases on the pillow box? I have a cuttlebug? I heard someone say something about a plumber's gasket? thanks

I can't understand why the pillow box and the scalloped envelope aren't just a 'smidge' bigger to accomodate a gift card. Sure would make them more useful. I bought both thinking a gift card would fit and was very disappointed. (Is there somewhere a person can check to get the finished size of the shape?) There is space on both dies to accomodate a larger shape. Since the scalloped envelope is a SU exclusive, someone should have thought a slightly larger envie would be more useful. These are my opinions/vents. These 2 dies look like they are going to be $$ spent and not used. I have a CB & BS and not a Cricut so the dies are my only way to make these shapes.

I have a free pillowbox cut file on my blog that I made with Plantain Schoolbook, also an SVG version if you use SCAL. You can get it here: http://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.co...wbox-template/ I love the file!

How do you get the score lines if you cut it on the cricut?

I save the offcut, flip it over then use the cut edge as a guide to run an embossing tool along.

The Cricut cuts a little notch where you're supposed to make the folds. There's no score line impression, like you get with a die.

Yes, you need something soft, like the "official" crease pad or plumber's gasket, to get pronounced score lines with a die. However, in a pinch I've used nothing and gotten pretty good results most of the time.

I wish the scallop envelope and the pillow box were big enough for a gift card, too. Sizzix really missed the boat there!
