Default WT38 - All stitched Up - Ways to Use it Challenge

This week the challenge is to find ways to add stitching to your projects. You can use your sewing machine, hand stitch, sew on a button or just plain fake it and add some faux stitches.

Have fun and don't forget to add WT38 to your keywords section and post a link back here. You are all welcome to play and post for as long as you like. Tips and techniques that you want to share are sew welcome too!

Great idea Julia - this is one thing that I haven't gotten into much and I love my Tool Set - have to give this one a try! (punch punch sew sew... now as long as I don't poke myself w/ the needle and get my card all messy!)

I need to try this. Got one of those mini sewing machines & haven't actually used it. Hate to drag out the real one.

Let us know how the mini machine works...I love using my big one but it is a pain to drag out. I guess I had to think of using it in my cards...one of those things i HAD to have and it was a very good one, not cheap.

Can you try loosening your tension? Also, check the bobbin, maybe rethread it, change the needle if all else fails....let me know if this helps.

Maybe your needle is too big, like jeans needle (something like size 100). Try putting in a (#s might not be right here) 14/90 or 12/80.

lacyquilter is right about using a smaller size needle, also make sure to use one that is sharp. The ballpoint & most universal needles have blunt end & will leave a larger hole. I like to use the Schmetz Embroidery Needles in a 75/11 (you can usually find them at Joann's), but check and see what needles are recommended for your machine.

OK, I did the mini sewing machine thing. First, I couldn't get the presser foot to drop down. Finally got that to work. Stitched one side, worked fine. Stitched the second side & when I pulled it away from the machine, all the stitches unraveled. (The top looks like regular sewing, but on the bottom, it's like a chain stitch.) So I had to line it up so the needle went back down in the holes -- not too hard -- and stitch that row again. If I keep on stitching off the paper, then I could cut the thread & it didn't come unsewn. If I didn't have to get my regular machine out & set it up, I would actually prefer using it. The biggest plus for the mini is that it is portable & takes less space on the table than a sheet of card stock. I think I could get used to using it, but it just doesn't compare to my 'cadillac'. Also, only does straight stitch, but you could use the underneath side for a different look.

Beyond the stitching, I inked the U & then stamped it on Floral to remove some ink, but when I stamped the card stock, the pattern really didn't show, so I took a piece of scrap paper, laid it on the inked floral & rubbed. I cut that out & popped it up on top of the first one.

All in all, I really pleased with how the card turned out. FUN Challenge!

Here's mine (it's finally approved):

I will play later today. I have THINGS that are taking my time and focus away from my craft table. Just put a double batch of caramel popcorn in the oven and trying to get a Christmas box ready to take to UPS for my kids. I dying on the vine wanting to try out my new stamps. Beautiful stamping so far from all you ladies.

I do not sew, but I love my mat pack to do faux stitching. I did this card on sunday, but not for a challenge. Yeh!!!!!!!!!!! Now it has a challenge home. Thanks again Julia for your wonderful ideas. Nancy

Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

P.S. After looking at everyone's faux stitching I am realizing that my card is really paper piercing and not faux stitching. I needed to use a gel pen to "connect my dots"! I am going to have to make a new card..........gee.........darn!!! Your cards are all awesome. Thanks for looking, Nancy

Here's mine. I combined this challenge with last nights sketch challenge. This was fun. I have a set of Hero Arts stamps with faux ribbons and stitches. I have not used one of them yet until tonight. I thought it was about time.
I purchased one of the small craft sewing machines so I wouldn't have to get out my big machine but I hated it and gave it away.

I got mine done and with a real machine. I'm lucky and have it sitting up all the time in the room next to my stamp room. The kids moved out and mom took over!
I"m not to sure about this Real Red on the edge, that stuff sure scanned bright and I tried adjusting the photo too!

Here's my card inspired by Hallmark!

Oh, I usually don't have time to make many cards, but I made one tonight. I didn't even know what the challenge was, but I sewed on folded-up paper strip to look like old-fashioned ribbon (like in the Sellabration catalog). I love sewing on cards. Although I bought my sewing machine to do quilting and after two years, haven't gotten around to that yet! Maybe one of these days!

Still pending approval:

I posted this card the other day. I made it for my friend's birthday. It was my first attempt at Faux Stitching. I had fun doing it and will have to do some more.
