TLC219 - Embossed Wax Paper Resist {5/4/09}
Hi TLC'ers! I hope you're ready for some fun. I sort of misled you last week when I hinted that you will need a white opaque pen. You WILL need it, but not until next week...so if you didn't get around to finding one, you have a whole other 7 days to locate one.
Today what you will need for this technique is:
Glossy cardstock
Wax Paper (yes, the type from your kitchen)
A few pieces of scratch paper,
A brayer works best, but you could also probably use sponges if that is all you have
An embossing folder - Cuttlebug, texture plate or something similar
Glossy Cardstock
Die ink
Iron
Are you ready? Ok, let's get to it.
Today's technique is a new twist on an older idea. Beth (showmestamper) introduced the TLC'ers to this technique back in April 2005, using Beate's Wax Paper Resist technique which can be found HERE.
The twist idea comes Pat Huntoon and her wonderfully creative group of designers who consistently come up with fantastic ideas for the Technique Junkies newsletters.
The instructions go something like this:
Cut a piece of wax paper a little larger than the size of your embossing folder or texture plate.
Run the embossing folder or texture plate through your machine of choice (there are so many now, I hate to actually name ONE)
Remove your wax paper from the folder, which should have a pretty design all smashed into it.
The remainder of the process is EXACTLY as steps #2 through #7 in Beate's instructions. (link shown above)
That's it - but what fun you'll have personalizing your cards with colors and design backgrounds. Now, get busy and let me see your awesome creations.
If you would like to see my sample for today's technique, CLICK HERE.
To view ALL of the samples using the Embossed Waxed Paper Resist technique, CLICK HERE.
And, as always...be sure to add the keyword TLC219 (no spaces) when you upload your cards so that they will be pulled into the TLC219 gallery.
Ok - let's get busy and let me see your creative genius!
HINT for next week...well, I gave it to you last week...lol You will need an opaque white gel pen.

I can't wait to try this after work today. Then I'll finally get to use that brayer that has been in the drawer for about a year!!

Hmmmm, I tried the technique, but I am less than pleased with the results. I may continue creating a card with it if I get inspired, or I may just check everyone else's results.
Thanks for the challenge Lynn.

Hmmm, I took a few days off from making any cards, lots of nights going to bed at a decent hour, and lots of walking. I might give this a try later when the boys are at school and I walk the lakes. Thanks!

Well, if you notice, my background is somewhat "smashed", so if you are looking for results that look JUST like the cuttlebug background, I'm not sure you will get an exact replica. KWIM?

Thanks Lynn for always finding new techniques to try. I usually don't have all the supplies, but I can find ways to alter the technique to what I have. But, with no wax paper, no glossy paper, and no embossing system... well, I guess I'll have to sit this one out. Sounds like fun though. I do have my white pen so I'll be ready for next week.

Hi Girls,
I just tried this cool technique and found that if I didn't put any pressure at all on the paper, I got a much better image. I also ironed on a hard surface, not my cushy ironing board cover. I gently swirled the iron around for only about 10 seconds. I was much happier with the results after that....HTH
Off to finish my card....!

Well...I made another card... While I was shopping with my dad, this card kept popping into my head...I kept seeing the SAND as the embossed Resisted paper! So...I made this one for today's challenge, too!
Here's my CrABBY card!

Just a note - If you sponge w/dye ink, this dries really fast and I couldn't buff with the paper towel. I took some platinum pigment ink for a bit of sheen and it buffed out the areas that I needed to be lighter! Great background idea and so cute! I'll post later on!

Here's mine......I tried something a little different. I ran my waxed paper through the embosser and ironed it onto shiny cardstock. Then I took the waxed paper and used the brayer on that using pretty in pink, yo-yo yellow, and rose red (brayered off some of the color first). I taped it around a piece of cardstock and added it to a card. Maybe this is another new technique, but I thought it looked very old fashioned. My card is called Colored Waxed Paper. I'm going to finish my other card the way this challenge was originally designed! LOL Thanks Lynn!
