I love, love my MM Precision Trimmer, but like lots of you, the "Squeeky" noise the blade made when sliding up and down the bar drives me nuts. I thought it was probably the blade out of line, but it's not. It's the black plastic housing around the blade rubbing against the aluminum bar that makes the noise.
Here is a quick fix. Can't believe it took me so long to think of it. Get some 3 in One Household Oil. Just put a TINY drop on a folded tissue and carefully rub it along the top and bottom surface of the aluminum bar where the cutter blade slides. Magic - no more noise.
It is the friction of the plastic piece against the metal that makes the horrible "chalk on blackboard" sound. If you are very sparing and careful, and don't get any oil anywhere else but on the top and bottom of the aluminum bar, there will be no residue to harm your cardstock.

Thanks for the tip...I hate that squeaky sound...but two questions...what it 3 in one household oil? and where do you purchase it?
It is a can of basic household oil that you can purchase at lots of places. 3-in-One is the brand name, and it is a small metal can with a tiny spout on top. Try Walmart, or even Walgreens or CVS drugstore. A hardware store or Home Depot would surely have it.
On the front of the can there are pics of things you can oil with it - sewing machines, saws, hinges, etc. It is a handy product to have for anything metal that squeeks in your house. I always have it handy in my kitchen cabinet.

Thanks for the info about the oil...that squeak drives me nuts! I am getting some first thing tomorrow!
You will be amazed at the difference. But, be sure and only use a tiny drop on a folded tissue and don't get the oil anywhere else on the trimmer, just on the aluminum arm where the black plastic blade housing slides up and down.

Thanks so much for the tip. I am comforted to hear that others have the same noise. I thought I had a defective trimmer. I would guess that other brands of oil such as sewing machine oil or WD40 would work the same as the 3inOne oil. I can't wait to see if this fixes my problem! Thanks again.
Another squeeky trimmer here. I'll definitely give this a try. My dog bolts everytime I get near the trimmer!

I used sewing machine oil. It's silent now!!! Yeah! Thank you soooooo much for the help!

Thanks for sharing your hint. I was ready to take my trimmer back. Not only was it irritating to me, I hesitated taking it to a crop and driving everyone around me crazy!
Location: In my stamp room, stamping, painting, and gluing... with the dogs playing under my feet....

Tried it (admittedly, a bit skeptically, but ever hopefully) and IT WORKED!!!! My hubby is thrilled too, because I'd been trolling for cutters again LOL.

So glad this worked for you. Since my original post, I have found something else that works on the MM trimmer to remove the "squeak" besides oil, since it can be a little messy if you aren't real careful.
You can also spray a little Pledge on a paper towel and wipe it carefully along the bar the cutting blade slides on.
