I have been buying my envelopes for my cards at Wal Mart for years. They aren't as nice a quality as Staples, etc, but the price is right. And I can get them locally. Today I was low on envelopes, so on my weekly trip to Wal-Mart I picked up a box. But something about them looked different. I read the package and they changed the size! Instead of the standard 4-3/8 x 5-5/8 they are now 4-3/8 x 6-1/4". It says "to fit 4 x 6 photos". Ok, but what about those of us that don't include photos. I either have to adjust the size of my cards (not practical, paper usage wise) or have the card slide around in the envelope because it would be almost an inch short. Needless to say, I didn't buy them. And now I have to wait until I can make a trip into the "big city" to Staples to get envelopes.
Just sharing this for those of you who buy Wal Mart brand to pay attention to the box you are buying to make sure you are getting the size you want.
glue a piece of paper inside the enevelope to make up the difference

I know what you mean! I went through the same thing a few months ago when going to Walmart to refill my envelope supply. I hate the bigger size. I think it makes my cards look chincy b/c they are too small. I will have to suck it up and pay more at Staples now too.

Yup...happened to me, too. Picked up what I thought was the same old invitation style envie and then went to use one and realized it was larger. First they got rid of the red duck adhesive I always used and now the envies. :-(

I bought pastel colored envelopes @ Wal-Mart about a month ago and thought maybe they were bigger because they were the colored ones....I didn't look at the size when I bought them. Glad to know staples has them...thanks! I guess that makes sense but I never go into Staples. I will get some at Staples on Friday when I get to the BIG CITY!!! Are they a better quality than Wal-Mart's? What do they cost? thanks

OH NO! we don't have a Staples here is MS. I have been buying my envies at Office Max. I'm with you on the Red Duck tape. I haven't found a suitable replacement for it. Although I have bought tape at the Dollar Tree for a buck, but now they aren't carrying scrapbook supplies. What's a gal to do when she lives in a small rural town? LOL

Thanks for letting us know....I would be one of those who got it home before figuring out the size had changed.
There are some great internet sites to buy envelopes, and you can get them in many colors and sizes. You also can get square flap, which I love because I always stamp my envies too. If you want, take a look at these....

I just about freaked out when I saw the red duck tape was gone....but I found it in a different isle. They used to stock it in office supplies, but I have been able to find it only with desk sets, spiral binders, etc. at my local Wal-Mart. Sooo...you might want to ask, if you haven't already. Good luck!
I actually love the new size as the smaller size was usually too small of a card for me and the larger "greeting card" size was huge. BUT--I've now started making my own envies from the tutorials on the Scor-Pal site. I've figured out how to adapt them to make "enveloboxes" too in any size. I'm going to see about getting a video uploaded to youtube soon if anyone's interested.
Thanks for posting this! Actually I sent my husband to walmart to buy me some envelopes and he came home with a box of them. I said thank you and when I went to use them I realized something wasn't right.
So back to walmart I went to get another box of envelopes, but the second time I checked to size on the box and I noticed that they didn't have the size I buy, even the shelf price tag was gone. I guess I'll have to buy them at Staples now. At my local Staples they are $11.49 for 100 of them and actually that seems like a good price to me.
I picked up a couple of boxes and didn't realize until I got it home and cracked one of them open. I've found then handy when sending a bundle of 2 or 3 cards with envies so I have kept them and put them to use, but I do prefer the original size for sending cards by them selves.

Do you know if there's a 12-step program for stamping? No, seriously, is there??
At Walmart, the envelopes were $4.44 for a box of 50. At Staples, the box of $100 is about $11. So, more expensive. But they are a nicer quality. For the person who doesn't have a Staples in their area, I'm sure any office supply store will carry the right size. It just won't be Wal Mart.
About the Duck Brand tape. I was very disappointed when Wal Mart stopped carrying it too. But I found that JoAnns does have it and it's on sale quite often. Or at least I can use a coupon. I also live in a very rural area and the JoAnns is quite a drive so I only get there about every 6 weeks. So I wait for a sale on adhesives and stock up.
Go to your local print shop. SOmetimes they will sell you some boxes that have been broken into for weddings etc. at a good price. These are usually very high quality.

I just checked out the Anchor paper site that LeisaJane suggested and they look like they sell 250 A2 envelopes for $10. They are the square flap too. Just wondering if anyone has ordered from them before? That's a really good deal!! Here is the link: http://www.anchorpaper.com/retail/asize.htm
those who have ordered from Anchor paper - just curious on the shipping costs? no where on the site states it - you have to go all the way through the checkout process to find out.........
If you have a reason to buy in bulk or have friends to share with, clearbags.com has a box of 1000 for around $22. If you add a few things to your order (like clear envelopes) you can avoid the minimum order fee.

I priced shopped Office Max and Office Depot in my area for envelopes. Office Depot was much cheaper than Office Max. Wish we had a Staples for a third shopping choice!
Question for those who used the Red Duck tape(RDT)... Have any of you ordered the ATG 714 or the ATG 50? If so, is the tape about the same? I've been thinking about getting one, but I want something similar to the RDT. I am still able to purchase it at my Wal-mart, but the price has gone up to $9.99 for a 4pk, when it used to be just under $8. I have the Glue Glider Pro, and I do like it, but I much prefer the RDT.
For those on the West Coast, Kelly Paper has 250 count boxes of linen finish envelopes. I bought a box about 6 mos ago for about $15-$20, can't remember exactly. They are very nice, top quality envelopes. I won't have to buy any again for quite a while.
I get mine from Action Envelop...in bulk...then split with some friends. We all sell some here and there so the larger quantities work for us. Plus the boxes they come in are just wonderful for storage of cards etc....
Well I guess I am the only one happy about the new size. I like to send pics with my cards as we are military and live quite a distance from family and friends. I really hated using those big anvies just to send a couple of pics.
My bx carries invitation size. 100 for $6 dollars and change. This helps out lots as I do the pif image thread and go through tons of envies!

see and I bought some thinking that with extra embellies or matted pieces then it woudl be helpful and not a war to get them in the regular sized ones, I have yet to use them but plan on it, I though it was kindacool! LOL And YES!!! PERFECT for mailing imges for sharing!
I live overseas and my husband was in the US last month. I asked him to get me 300 invitation envelopes (I send a lot of cards) at Walmart. Imagine my disappointment when I realized they were not the right size. Now, I have 300 envelopes I can't use. Oh well...Next time, I'll specify the actual envelop size.

I was at Walmart a few days ago and they had A2 size envies again. The box was different and the box said new and improved or something like that? I forgot to look to see how much they were though because I bought some at Ollies when someone posted that they were 69 cents a box so I'm stocked up for a little bit.
I LOVE the anchor paper envelopes...although I was in Mpls last week and bought them in person, so I don't know the shipping charges. I actually asked, and the woman at the register didn't know because they are shipped from the warehouse, not the retail store. I'll keep checking back because I know I will eventually need to order more.
And when you say Red Duck tape, are you talking about this stuff?
My Joann's carries it (sometimes), but Walmart stopped several years ago.
Ladies..if you like to order a lot of envelopes at one time, I would suggest www.clearbags.com. The item E120 is the invitation size and I normally order 2000 at a time. With shipping included it costs me $79.00 and some change. This is only 3.7 cents per envelope. It is the best price I have found and I do order a LOT of envelopes for the soldier project. If anyone can find them cheaper I would love to know. These are nice quality envelopes too. Blessings.

I had brought up this info about WalMart a few weeks ago, and some one steered me to clearbags.com. Their site is kind of overwhelming and right now I do not have the item number of the exact price, but I did end up ordering about 1500 envelopes - to cut down on shipping and increase savings. I figure I will use them and not have to bother shopping any time soon.

knocking on wood...
my walmart still carries these duck brand tape runners!
i just picked some up about a week ago. sounds like it may just be a hit and miss chance to get them.
I thank God for my DH who works for a printing company. He is able to get me high quality white and off white card stock and white and off white envies in their recycle bin! You got it, free! And it isn't all mussed up, their recycle bins are shelves of overstock on orders. I have learned alot about the printing biz since marrying him; I had no idea how they bill customers and how much waste their is! But I'm learning their waste is my treasure!
I bought a box too. When I use that envelope I use the White Georgia Pacific cardstock from Walmart as my base instead of my good cardstock. I'll use the good stuff for fronts instead of the base. With the old size envelopes I could use cardstock and make 2 cards but with the new ones I can only get one card from a sheet of the good cardstock. I guess I'll be buying mine at Staples too
After Christmas I bought a bunch of boxed cards on 75% clearance. I buy them for the envelopes only. They are just the perfect size 4x6.25. I bought enough to last all year. I forgot I had them when I bought the invitation envelopes at Walmart.

I picked some up without noticing the size differeence so I cut a piece of Designer paper and insert it inside the envelope. Makes for a pretty "custom" envelope and I can still use them!

I purchased envelopes from Anchor and the shipping was 8.53. I live in Mass. so I think it would probably be the same for you in RI. Still a great deal for 250 envies!
Yikes, I bought a box of envelopes at Walmart a week ago and didn't even look at the size. Yup they are the bigger ones, not happy. Looks like I will have to find some use for them or make 50 bigger cards. Lesson learned, read before you buy.
I buy the package of cards/envies at Joann's when on sale (or with a coupon.) The cards are made from light weight paper, but even using just the envies it costs less than walmart!!
I find the cards adequate to use as mats or other layering.
