What am I, tight or thrifty? I constantly am watching for coupons and when I have one in hand go to the store and buy just one item with the coupon, then I wait and go again when I get another coupon. So what is it?
How about on line? I have never purchased on line but there again would I be fair in ordering one thing with a coupon?
I guess I am very much like my Mom but I can take what ever you have to tell me. Thanks
I'm like my mom in that too; why buy something full price when you KNOW there'll be a coupon for it in a week or two!? You're better than me though if you can get out of the store with only one item; my DH constantly reminds me that I'm falling for the old trick, (a coupon on one item to get you into the store)! Yep, seems like more often than not, what I want is on sale so I can't use the coupon on it and just HAVE to buy something with that darn coupon! So you're not tight, you'e SMART!

Don't worry you are very smart in what you are doing, at least I think so.
I am like that as well. We just don't have much money and you got to be frugal these days.

If you have the time to go back to stores to use the coupons, and you aren't using up a lot of gas to do so, then this is smart. The coupons are "loss leaders" -- just like KathyC above says -- the store knows that the vast majority of folks will use the coupon, save a bit but spend way more once they are in the door. If you can exercise the self discipline not to do that, go for it!

i am a cheap chick...
i VERY rarely buy anything that is not on sale or without a coupon.
to me it makes no sense to pay full price when you know it will go on sale or you can use a coupon.
i am very good about looking at the add for hobby lobby and only getting things from my wish list if they are 40 or 50% off. or i use a coupon if it isn't on sale.
i went in one time and only got the pearl stickers... they were only 2.99 but why pay 2.99 when you can get them for 1.79! used my 40% off coupon.
i won't make a special trip (that's like a 30 min. drive) but if i am in town and going by there anyway and it is on sale or i have the coupon... i go for it.
you go girl... all the way to the store with your coupon!
I am the same way. I never pay full price for things if I can help it. I clip coupons for everything I can. Even with buying the stamps, I really want them all right now, but I am watching the forums, ebay, etc and making sure I can get a deal on them. I think you are very smart.
I used a 40% coupon on a set of $1 Studio G stamps yesterday.
Hey, I was there for something else, the coupon came free in the Sunday paper (I didn't pay to print it or use ink or my paper or anything) and $.40 is STILL money.
Now I wouldn't drive there to save $.40 nor would I use printer ink, but if I have it, I'm gonna use it.

Any time I can save $$$ it's a good thing! You will have more to spend the next time you want something ;) There are so many wonderful things available on-line but even if I have a coupon, the shipping cost eats up the savings (I never order enough at one time to qualify for free shipping). So I pretty much just shop when there's a sale or a coupon in my favorite stores.
I cut coupon's for our Food Products and then I watch the ads for sales. Only buy the Sunday Paper.
----------------------------------
I use my 40% 50% off coupons at Michaels, Joannes, and Hobby Lobby.
--------------------------------
I buy some of our clothes at the Thrift stores. I've found some really awesome Clothes and Sheets for under $3.00 And most of the stuff is Brand New with tags still on it!
-----------------------------
I use my 30% off Demo Discount to purchase Stamps and Supplies from The Angel Company.
---------------------------
If I want view a New Magazine I go to the Library to read it. Then I'll make some copies of what I want to keep. .10 each copy.
------------------------
We don't eat out much! so that's a savings.
------------------------
I also started selling things we don't need or wear anymore on Ebay.
Which helps with our savings.

Me too.
I use the 40% off's even on my Copics at Hobby Lobby.
I now have a collection of 25 so....
If you are going to be out and its not costing you alot of gas to go..
SAVE SAVE SAVE!

I do the same thing as the OP. I live about a mile from Michaels so it's not going out of my way. If my DH is with me and I have 2 coupons he gets in line too and saves me a trip. I'm going broke saving money!
I hate paying shipping for on-line stuff but I love to buy on-line so in the rare case I like to wait for those specials of items are on sale which will offset the shipping costs.
To me, tight implies stinginess. It doesn't sound like you're being greedy or stingy. To me, it sounds like you want the best value for your money you can get. That equates to thriftiness - which is a good thing!
Thanks everyone for making me feel a little better about this. I know that my doing this will not put the store out of business but thought that I was maybe being a little bit to dutch. Thanks again M

You are thrifty....and very smart! Why throw money away....with stamps I have to pay full price...but take clothing...I have LOTS...I really can't think of more than a few pieces that were full price....I just DON'T buy unless it's on sale or clearance...it's almost a hobby in itself...I like post # 7.....a cheap trick...that's cute!
I agree with everyone else - you're thrifty & that is a good thing!
I do the thrift store and estate sales too. There are some awesome scores if you keep your eyes out and only buy what you will really use. Some of my scores have included a pack of 28 dominoes for .65 cents, a Krupps espresso machine (that works perfectly) for $3.50, a set of practically brand new dishes & cereal bowls for $4. Man, I love a good score!

You are soooo lucky that you all get crafty coupons .... we never get them across the pond here. The only time we get 'bargains' is when there's an actual sale on! So jealous of you - if we had them, I'd definately be using them!
I'm truly a coupon girl too. (And I definitely call us THRIFTY!). I'll check for coupons online before I head out anywhere (www.wow-coupon.com) is a great place to look. I use Mike's, AC Moore and Jo-Ann coupons all the time. And, yes, often I will just buy one thing. Saving money with coupons and sales lets me invest in more supplies. I will treat myself every once in a while for an online deal if there's something I really want. I can justify that because I've used coupons for everything else!
Don't feel cheap. It's smart. I say keep doing what works best for you!

I don't think using coupons or buying things on sale makes anyone tight with their money especially these days.
I had a whole list of things I wanted to get at HL this weekend, but the only thing on sale are the Xyron adhesive refills that I need and possibly some markers. I've started taking a whole new look at being patient. I do, however, have a coupon for Michaels and I have always used those for one item if that's all I need.
I also joined Amazon's "prime" club. I pay $79 for a year at a time and the shipping is free for two day delivery if it's Amazon that's shipping it. Doesn't bother me at all. That's a pretty good price for an entire year of free shipping!

I agree, you're smart! And I have the same problem as kathyc...I can never leave with just one item. I give myself reasons and excuses like "Well you're saving money with this coupon, so you might as well get some other stuff since you're here."

I don't like to think of myself as cheap...I am frugal. I clip coupons, I shop the drug store deals...which can be very rewarding...I follow several money saving blogs, and sign up for every freebie I can. It is actually kind of fun! It can be a little time consuming sometimes, but really worth it!
I also have a way that I am earning $5 Amazon gift cards. I am saving up to buy a Cricut. So far, I have earned $35 for doing nothing, really. If you are interested in earning some gift cards, PM me. There is no catch, and it is totally legit!
Also, I have a lot of sites that I use to find coupons, free shipping, great deals at CVS, Walgreens, and Target. Not sure I am allowed to post those, so if you like, feel free to PM me. I love to share my frugal findings!!

It's not tight or even thrifty, it's just sensible. Why pay more than you have to? If you went to the shops and there were two door in-one saif 'This way for full price goods' and the other said 'this way for discounted prices' who wouldn't go through the discount door?
Big shops spend alot of time and money trying to manipulate us into buying expensive named brands, more than we need, put sweets by where we queue for children to see and want, pipe smells into the shop like fresh bread, put different lighting in some areas etc, etc.
By buying wisely we're not being manipulated so much and I for one hate the idea of being manipulated by anyone. More savings equates to either more stuff or the actual ability to buy something you normally couldn't afford. We should congratulate each other for being clever and in some ways playing the stores at their own games. Every penny, cent etc makes a difference especially now. I like many of you have strong women in my family who taught me that paying more than is necessary isn't the way to do things!
I usually won't buy anything full price unless I absolutely have no choice. I always use a coupon when I shop at Michaels. I do buy some clothes at consignment shops - especially evening wear that I know I'll only wear once to my company christmas party. I usually only shop when there's a sale. And I investigate every big purchase I buy to find the best price. I always say the money is better in my pocket than somebody elses.

I buy everything on sale or clearance, including clothes. I'm careful on the number of stamp sets I buy and how pricey they are. I'm a bargain hunter but I bargain hunt too much and still spend too much...what does that make me?? A thrifty over-spender?
I too go and buy just one item with a coupon. I did it just this morning at M's. I used a 50% off coupon on a bottle of Prima Flowers - the ones that coordinate with the new Nursery Rhymes papers. I think it is just smart to save money. I can't stand to pay more than necessary on anything.
You are not alone on this. I NEVER pay full price on any craft item. I'm always looking for coupons. The way the economy is going, most people have to watch their money too. But I've always been a frugal person. Love the thrift stores but unable to find any since moving here. Oh well, just wanted to say...you are not alone.
