Here is another idea for what to do with your old Christmas cards (any occasion cards, actually):
Send them to St. Jude's Ranch for Children, a safe, nurturing home and therapeutic residential treatment center for abused, abandoned and neglected children. "The children make new recycled cards from the donated ones by removing the front and attaching a new back made with recycled paper. The new card is a beautiful, 'green' card made by the children and volunteers." The cards are then sold to raise money for the ranch.
"The benefits are two-fold: customers receive 'green' holiday cards for use, and the children receive payment for their work and learn the benefits and importance of 'going green'." I would add that the donors eliminate clutter from their house, so they benefit too! Sounds like a win-win-win situation to me!
St. Jude's is only accepting cards until February 28, 2009, so don't delay! Remember, they take all occasion cards too, not just Christmas ones. To get the address and more information, go to:

If St. Jude won't take them you might want to make inquiries at your childrens school, My sister in Law is an art teacher and last year I gave her a box of cards a friend of mine had (she never threw any of her cards out) She uses them for her students to make projects. I just removed all the backs and gave her the fronts of the card.

Their web site indicates they'll be accepting cards through February.
Wanda
yes it does but it also indicates they are not accepting cards at this time so they figure out a new way to handle the cards more efficiently, so I am not sure

To help clarify they had suspended the program for awhile while they figured out how they wanted to do things, etc. It is now open for only a few months a year.

After February 2009 when St Jude's Ranch stops accepting them, I'll take them. I'm the card coordinator for Operation Quiet Comfort and am collecting the card fronts (store bought and hand made) to make into the cards for next years holiday shipment. OQC supports over 60 combat support hospitals and the cards are completed with personal messages and given to wounded troops and the medical staffs that care for them.

Has anyone checked with them to see if they will accept handmade card fronts?
yes they do

For those of you fond of the St. Jude charity, go to www.mathathon.org and encourage your school to participate. Our school does it every year. It's fun and rewarding for the kids to use their skills to raise $$$ for this most generous group.
Glad to see that they have resumed taking cards again, they had stopped. Will be sending my in this year for sure!!
Great to hear, our church had sent them for years until they quit taking the cards a few years ago. I will get all of those we have saved and mail them off.

I would love to participate in this program. Will pass it one to family members also, as my son-in-law is in the military. TFS.

I love spending as much time as possible in my Color Studio
Can Canadian's contribute as well? My MIL keeps sending me card fronts to use and I never seem to find a use for them, I would hate to see them go to waste.
