Ok, so I've been using alcohol ink and playing around especially with using it on glass and stuff. So if I want to stamp on it as well, what kind of ink do ya'll recommend? I was thinking of purchasing Stazon, but I'm not sure. I have some dye-based ink. The majority of my ink is pigment ink and I don't know if that will work. I watched Tim Holtz's video and he said photo ink (I think) but I don't know what that is.

I've used Staz-on and alcohol ink with photo paper as my art surface and have never had any negative reactions. I couldn't say 100% that you wouldn't have a reaction if using it on glass because I don't have any personal experience with using the two together on glass but my assumption is that they should work well together.
I just found a demo from Tim Holtz that he did in Rotterdam. It's on YouTube. He said that Stazon and Memories Ink are solvent based like alcohol inks so they will react with each other and the images you use from your stamp will spread out.
He uses Archival Ink. I've got one pad of that in blue. I guess I'll get some more of that kind of ink. He also said that Archival ink is oil based so that's why you use it. Kind of neat.

Maybe I didn't have a problem because of the image I used but it was pretty detailed and I really didn't notice a difference. It may also be because I alchohol inked my paper one day and stamped the next day. I still have the image because it's an ATC & it's fine. Not sure why it worked for me but it did. I'm not trying to argue, I'm just saying what worked for me.
I would think they would react in the same way but you can't color with Copic markers if the image is stamped in Staz On as they are both Alcohol based and the staz on smears HORRIBLY bad.... Wouldn't you use Tim's ink products like th eAdirondack inks???? I would think it would be smart for him to make all of his products play nicely with each other....

I agree that using 2 solvent based products together doesn't usually work well together. If I had thought to use the Adirandock ink with the alcohol inks more than likely I would have used them together but at the time, I just thought of using Staz-On.
I'm just saying it worked when I did it. Try it next time you feel like experimenting. Here's a picture of the ATC I made using Staz-On with Alcohol ink.
I tried StazOn and Brilliance on alcohol ink backgrounds. The StazOn seemed to work OK but gave a bit patchy coverage which I wasn't happy with. After a bit of reserach I read the same thing that has already been mentioned that there might be a reaction between the two. I use the Rangers Archival Ink which is what was recommended by most people, and it works OK.

Haven't tried on glass, though, and photo paper, isn't as good for stamping on as glossy card. I know photo paper is not recommended for using with alcohol inks, but I love the effect it gives. However, if I want to stamp on it after I will use glossy card.
I don't have any Stazon ink. I was really trying to figure out what I should purchase and every opinion is greatly appreciated. I want to get some Stazon ink for other projects because it stays on. Ha ha!:mrgreen:
I use Colorbok pigment ink mostly and that's an experiment I don't think I'll try again especially on glass. The great thing is that it wiped right off. I really think I have one Archival ink and quite a few dye based inks, but most of what I have is pigment ink because I do a lot of heat embossing. I guess I'm going to have to expand my ink horizons so to speak.
Man I just can't stop looking at that ATC, jenny. I love the colors. I can't wait to get the "lights and brights" alcohol ink that they are set to release.

Sabrina, your ATC is also gorgeous! I've been using the alcohol ink for backgrounds on the ATCs that I've been making. No, I haven't uploaded much in my gallery, but I will.

I posted this on another forum, but now think this may be the better place. I covered dominos with alcohol ink backgrounds and was planning to stamp with Christmas themed images to make them ornaments. One place says you can't use Stazon on alcohol inks and another place recommends it. They turned out so well, I don't want to ruin them. I don't have any Stazon. I did try gold embossing on one and it looks great, but don't have all the colors of embossing that I would need to do them the way I want. I have colors of Memories, but thought that was similar to Stazon, and shouldn't be used with alcohol inks. Do I have to go out and get something?
Beautiful! Yes I have one that I have been using to test inks, finishes, etc. I have decided to go with metallic embossing on all of them. That part is done and now I must put on the finishing touches. They all need one more coat of spray finish. I have been hampered the last couple days in doing that because of constant rain. Monsoon is way over so what's up with this drizzle in the desert?

You can use many dye inks to heat emboss with, using clear detail powder. Especially as you are stamping onto a non porous surface, they will stay wet for long enough for you to add the powder.
Thanks, I have done that, but haven't been as satisfied with the look for most things. The color isn't as vibrant, but have used it for things like dragonfly wings, fish and other images I want a more ephemeral look for. For the domino Christmas ornaments, I have set on just a small image embossed in silver, gold or copper and then added embellishments of the same color. Only have 3 done as it takes a while for the glue to dry on the embellishments and I'm doing both sides.
