Default Glue sticks vs. mono adhesive

Hi all, I was just wondering... how do permanent glue sticks stack up against the permanent mono adhesive. Since they are so much cheaper I wanted to get other opinions. Thanks so much.

my 1st choice is mono, but the NEW square SU gluesticks are WAY better than they used to be & way better than the "cheapies" you get anywhere else.

Mono all the way....although I have never used the new SU one's I'll have to give them a try.

In the past I sent cards out that I used glue sticks on only to find out that pieces fell off of them in the envy

I've never had a problem with glue sticks and they are much cheaper. I rarely use mono.

I've always used the glue sticks and have never had any problems. What I like best is that I can stick something down and then move it a bit without having to actually pick it up and reposition it. Just slide it over where I want it. And so cheap! Just my .02. - J.

Default mono vs. glue sticks

I always used mono adhesive until the new catalog came out and SU did not have the new SNAIL adhesive available. I started using the new glue sticks and I love them! I haven't touched my mono's since I started using the glue sticks. As it turns out, some of my older cards that I used Mono on have started to come appart... As a side note, I also like to use the sticky strip for anything that normally does not stick as well with the glue sticks (ribbon, metalic tags, metal paper, buttons or beads); and of course, the mini glue dots. Hope this helps!

This happened to me with glue sticks AND with Two Way Glue pen. From now on, as Jovi says, "Mono all the way" . . .

Default glue sticks

I think it depends on which glue sticks you use. I've had cards fall apart in the mail using a certain glue stick for crafts. I've found that Scotch Brand glue sticks hold really well and go on smoothly. You can buy them in a big pack a BJ's too!

In a tips letter (e-mail, actually) from an up-up-upline, it mentioned that in order for the glue sticks to work best is to glue both parts--ie, both sides of the paper--which seems like extra effort to me. I use mono almost exclusively. I have tried the seemingly similar product from Walmart (can't remember the name now) and have disliked the results--the paper comes up within days and sometimes hours!

Mono rules, I love it. I also get this mono kind of stuff at Walmart. It's comes in packs of 4 for like $9 - it's awesome!! But for my shows I use mono. Just to try and get people hooked!

Mono all the way! I get mine from Viking & at those prices, I can even afford to let customers use it! I've all but thrown my glue sticks away (don't have the SU! ones - don't like em, even the new one).

Oh great! Now I need to get one of the new SU! glue sticks to do my comparison. Right now I am a monoadhesive fanatic and won't use anything else...except Sticky Strip and Glue Dots. LOL!

I just had a stamp camp and had the glue sticks for the ladies to use. It was AWFUL! I will use mono for everything from now on.

The glue sticks took to long to dry (layers kept moving around) and it tended to buckle the cardstock. Not to mention its messy. :(

Like the others have said - at $2 for a refill from Viking I won't be using anything else.

Again - just my $0.02...

I am completely addicted to the mono's. I use TONS of them. Your best option is to order them from Viking when they are $1.88/refill. My last order, I got 10 cases of 6 each.

I really like this discussion, because I was always wondering what's the difference between all these different glues in the SU catalog. I kind of get the idea, but could someone give me a brief description or rather the differences and advantages of the following glues again?

- 2-Way Glue pen
- Liquid glue
- SNAIL adhesive
- Anywhere Glue stick

Which glue would you use in which situation?

Thank you!!!

Like I said before I am mono-loyal, but in certain situations I will use other adhesives. Here is what I use the following for...

- 2-Way Glue pen - the BEST for attaching Dazzling Diamonds (which I think EVERY stamper should own!)
- Liquid glue - I use this to attach notebook covers. It will dry without warping your paper like Elmer's. It's also good for microbeads.
- SNAIL adhesive - I use this for EVERYTHING! We use this at all my workshops and Stamp Camps.
- Anywhere Glue stick - never used this, but it will be on my next order since everyone here thinks it's great.

Also, Mini Glue Dots for buttons and Sticky Strip for beads, sour cream containers, embossing straight lines, etc.

does anyone use rubber cement? i do, but maybe it is not a good option since no one has mentioned it here. it is acid free, so that's not a problem. are my cards falling apart after i send them out and i don't know it? any help would be appreciated...

And don't forget good ol' Crystal Effects - I use that as a glue for embellishments too.

For attaching card layers I go back and forth between mono and Scotch double stick tape. I like them both. I haven't tried the SU gluestick, but the one gluestick that I do use on some things is Elmer's Craft Bond Extra Strength Glue Stick. It is acid free and sticks like crazy!!! No way is that stuff falling apart!

It's great hearing what everyone uses and what works

so do you use the new SNAIL in the black container with the SU logo on it, or do you keep using the old container? I would think the clear/blue refills from Viking would look really silly with the black casing, but I don't really want to pay SU prices for it when I can get refills for $1.88.

My mono (perm) doesn't seem to stay stuck at all. I also don't seem to get
all of it used either meaning a straight line, I miss a lot. Seems like a lot of waste.
What do you think of the Herma?

You couldn't pay me to use glue sticks - too messy. I use either my xyron machine or the xyron runner or herma - all permanent. I used to used double sided stick tape, but dislike it as it picks up dirt along the edges and shows. To each his/her own...

I always use Mono, but I rub my bone folder over the back of my work to make sure it stays stuck.
