I am considering becoming a paid member on SCS. I would like to hear some pros and cons on this topic. Is it worth it? What are the benefits? Etc.

I think the best way to look at it is to decide if you feel that you are getting something from it already and if you would feel good to give back so that SCS can stay around for you and for others. I thought of it as a magazine subscription and realized that I got far more info from here than I get from any magazine that I have subscribed to. There are some perks to being a member but the perks weren't what made me a member when I was one. I am not at the moment because I have needed to cut back. I hope to again in the future for the above reasons and I thank everyone that has given so that I could continue to benefit from this great site!!

Exactly! And, if you upload cards, you get instant approval.
I also enjoy looking at the monthly fan club gallery, although I must admit my skills are so far behind those of the Dirty Dozen stampers that I use that gallery more for enjoyment than for inspiration.
Thanks for the input. I am leaning toward paying, but will likely wait until I am ready to start uploading cards. So, if I understand correctly, I will have access to more galleries, as well as be able to upload without delay. Anything else?
I don't think there are any cons, but that's because, while I think it's great that the site is free for those who want, I like to put my money where my mouth is and pay what is a very small amount for all the inspiration and information that I find here. I've pretty much given up on buying magazines - seems to me there's more and more advertising in them and less inspiration.

I used to buy tons of magazines. I hardly ever do anymore. An occassional Mother Earth, but that's about it!

What everyone says about the fan club gallery is true. It's great, inspirational and supports this website.
The only negative thing I have to say is if/when you decide to not continue paying, you will no longer be able to see the gallery for the years you did pay. Also if you favorited anything in the fan club gallery it will be taken off your favorites.
I paid regularly for a few years and then could not pay when my renewal came up. I was sadly dissapointed to learn I could not browse the previously paid gallerys. Yes, its cheaper than a magazine subscription but with magazines you have them to flip back thru.
I had a paid membership to the Fan Club for a few years but did not renew my subscription this past summer because I just didn't have the money. Do I miss it? Not really. Did I enjoy the Fan Club when I was a member? Yes, very much so.
I do miss the instant uploads, but then again I don't upload much anyway, so that's not a big deal.
As for specific cons, I have to agree with wright1:

+Instant uploads/approvals to your gallery
++Sunday uploading is the best time for me
+++Beautiful, inspirational art from the Design Team
++++Giving back to a easy-to-navigate site that sets the standards for other craft sites
-Cost for me right now is the only reason I don't subscribe again.
they had a free preview of the Dirty Dozen galleries a few months ago.. like November or December. to be perfectly honest, I wasn't so blown away by the galleries that it tipped me over the edge into the 'must spend money to continue to get these' realm. I don't upload that much, and when I do, I acan wait a few hours for them to appear. If I could only upload on Sundays, it might tip the balance, that is not an issue for me.
I get PLENTY of great ideas and inspiration through the free parts of the site.. the tutorials alone are great. and since I never bought magazines anyway....
Thanks for all the input. I am not quite ready to start uploading...soon...so I will at least think about all of these things, see how I do as I get started, then make my final decision.
You've all been very helpful.
