Default Decorating Paint Cans???

Hi everyone,

I posted a few days ago a forum on JAR ART???....remember? Well, I was just at my local scrapbooking store (SCRAPBOOK CITY) and they are teaching a class on decorating paint cans.....1 gallon size. The promoted it as a 'gift bag that no one will ever throw away'. They were really cute, but I would never use a paint can that previously had paint in it, no matter how clean I thought I had gotten it. Has anyone ever seen fresh NEW paint cans. It is a great idea and easy too....just like the jar art....but need cans?

You can buy them at Home Depot pretty cheap. They have both quart and gallon size.

Hi Noelle,
I'm from Amherst, its so neat to see people in the area on here. I haven't been to SBC in a while but had read in their email about the class. I started making one last spring but never finished it. I think they are a great idea as well as the jar art. I guess I should probably get them out again and finish them.

Default 1 gallon paint cans

I have been making the 1 gallon paint cans to sell at a craft fair. I made the post it note holders, pens, notebook, candle, etc. to go inside. I was wondering if you guys could think of ideas of what the people who buy these paint cans could use them for. I want to make a little sign giving some suggestions hoping that will promote the sale of them. Thanks, Carol

Awhile back, someone posted a link that gave numerous ideas for paint can themes, and what to put inside--for baby, teachers, divorce, marriage, etc. LOTS. This was the website (I hope you can get to it):

www.budget101.com/survival_kits.htm

The had really neat ideas. HTH.

Default Ideas for Paint Cans

I'm not sure if I worded my post on this subject correctly. What I was looking for was for ideas for using the decorated cans after the customers used the contents that are in them when they bought them. I wanted to be able to put a little note of ideas on the table near the decorated cans at the craft fair giving the customers ideas so maybe that would boost the sales of the decorated paint cans. People seem to be efficient these days and like things that are recycable, etc. Carol

Default Ideas for Paint Cans

Here is some Paint Can Info that I posted once before...hope it helps you ~ Paint Can Smiles ~ Kelli

Paint Cans are such a WONDERFUL present to anyone....it can be for a new baby with the "Baby Poem", as I first saw at the 2003 SU! Convention, or for a wedding day present for the newly married couple.

BUT...think of other ways to use the cans....think of all the things that you use to put in baskets & go from there...for instance...

--a spa package for your sister (include soaps, lotions, bubble bath, a massage coupon (if you have the bucks ~ lol), a pretty washcloth, a stress reliever ball, a relaxing CD, candles, etc.)

--a birthday present for a child (include paints, brushes, paper, candy, etc.)

--Valentine's Day LOVE gift...can be sweet with candies & hearts & a stuffed animal or you could "spice" it up for your sweetie (candies, candles, rose petals, romantic CD, VDay undies, oils, etc.)

--Easter (use a paint can in lieu of the traditional basket)

--Teacher's Gifts (small note pad, pen, cookies, stickers, motivation cards, etc.)

--Get Well Present (Soup, cocoa, candy, a small book, aspirin, etc.

The possibilities are truly endless & what makes these so extra cool is that they ship SO much better than baskets, much cuter than a regular box & you can STAMP the outside of the can!!!

Now let YOUR imagination go wild & start thinking of some other ideas...remember that the paint cans at your local hardware store usually come in two different sizes (quart & gallon) so you can make a small little gift or a bigger, more elaborate gift...but either way the cost is minimal & the impact is BIG!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Paint Can "Kits"
What wonderful Christmas gifts or Birthday gifts these could make. Also, new baby, new home, survival kits, party kits, writing kits, time capsules....OH MY!!!!! I'm zoning!!!! Just about anything you can think of & just change the contents of the cans.
Just a few off the top of my head---
-Slumber Party Kit ~ Use the Girlfriends Stamp Set
-Garden Kit ~ Any Flower Set
-Snowman Kit ~ Frosty or any other snowman set
-Hot Chocolate or Coffee Kit ~ Express Yourself Set
-Get Well ~ Happy Healing Set
-Tea Kit ~ Tea Time Set or You Warm My Heart Set
-Doggie Treats ~ Canine Capers/Playful Pups Set
-Kitty Treats ~ Purrfect/Feline Friends Set
-Baby Memories ~ Any of the Baby Sets (got to find that poem)
-Wedding Present/First Year ~ Any Wedding Set---same concept as Baby one but having them record the first year of their marriage
-Legos Galore ~ Build a Bot Set
-Crayons & Paper ~ Any of the Crayon Sets
-Toy Cars/Trains, etc ~ Going Somewhere Set
-Valentine's/Love Kit ~ Any of the Heart Sets
-Halloween Goodies ~ Any of the Halloween Sets
-Thankful Thoughts ~ Turkey Talk Set or Any "Thank You" Set
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Paint Can Sources

Home Depot, Lowes or any other hardware type store sells them.
They run about 99 cents for a quart size & about $1.50 for the gallon size. Make sure you don't forget to get the lid with it & pick up one of those free paint can openers too...they look cute tied on to the can.

Paint Can Poems

Wedding Day Poem ~ by Kelli Tetterton

Today you became husband & wife,
To have & to love for the rest of your life.

The first year of marriage will seem quite busy,
Ups & downs that will make you so dizzy.

So on a piece of paper you will write,
A memory & a date that is oh, so bright.

Don't forget to record the dark ones too,
They help you to remember what not to do.

Write them all down so you won't forget,
The very reasons you both chose to commit.

Then on your first Anniversary Night,
Open this can by some candlelight.

Keep all the good times & throw away the bad,
Remember the joy of the year you just had.

Hopefully inside you will find much more,
Than just slips of paper, but memories to adore.

Here's hoping everything goes your way,
Best wishes to you both on your Wedding Day!

Baby Poem (Author unknown)
Baby books are great ideas,
but sometimes you're too busy.
Living with a little one
can put you in a tizzy.
Milestones pass too fast at times
to find the proper page.
So, jot a note of each event
with date and baby's age
(like "Took 3 steps on May 1st
or teething-5 December"),
then drop it in this memory can
to help you remember.

Tina,

So great to "meet" a fellow stamping junkie. Are you a SU demo as well? I was at Stamping Sensations in Blasdell, earlier this week and met another SU demo. What great fun!!!!

Check your local paint store. Even with tax, I got gallon ones for less that $2.
And they were clean, unused cans.

You can also purchase paint cans in many craft stores. They have gray metal lids (open just like the real ones) with clear acrylic sides to them and the gray metal bottoms.

I did a demo with them in my local AC Moore on Sunday. Kids decorated them with die cuts from the Expression (Pumpkin Carving). Even the kids had ideas as to what they could do with the cans after the holiday.
