Default TLC37 - Beautiful Blocked Collage

This week's TLC is Blocked Collage. It's an easy technique, and one I'm sure you will enjoy.

The technique basically is to create collage within a shape. First, create a mask in any shape you like. Start with a piece of scrap cardstock the size of your card base, then cut, punch, or die cut an opening in the shape you prefer. Next place the mask over your card front, securing it with repositionable tape. If you don't have respositionable tape, you can take a couple of pieces of regular tape and stick them on your clothing, pouncing a few times...this will place enough "fuzz" on the tape to leave some adhesive without the permanent stickiness. Once your mask is in place on your card front, just create your collage image inside the opening of your mask. Be sure to have the stamping go right up to and onto the mask, so that you are creating a definite shape that will visible once you remove the mask. After you are done with stamping, remove the mask and complete your card as desired.

When you upload, please put TLC37 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.

If you need help uploading or posting a link to this thread, check out this link:
Forums at Splitcoaststampers

If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

Edit June 2009: The original directions for this technique when it was posted in Nov 2005 were on a website by the talented Kimm Bennington-Thompson. Those directions are no longer available. Thanks go to Lynn in St. Louis for updating this!

I hope I have time to play this week. Thanks for hosting such awesome challenges Beth!

Oh and you might want to check that second link on how to post - I think it might be "broken"?

Thanks, Jami, for letting me know about the broken link. It is fixed now...I have been cutting-and-pasting that part of the TLC for a long time...I wonder how long it has been broken??? LOL

Here's my 1st attempt. It kinda took off in another direction mid way through so I'm not sure it fits the challenge well:

I must say Beth, that this technique is going to be a problem this week! I have ideas for at least 10 cards swirling around in my mind. It was all I could do to keep feeding the baby and not jump up and start some more stamping.

I also want to add a tip...I'm not sure if it specifies in the original instructions as I didn't take time to read it all. Use thin typing paper for your blocking scrap paper. I used white cardstock and it was too thick and I couldn't get a good image right to the edge of my shape.

Hope this helps,

I have all these plastic template shapes and never knew what to do with them, so thanks Beth for giving me a reason to use them! I seem to be stuck in a Holiday/Christmas rut, but I guess it will be here before I know it!

Its easiest to bring up two web pages. One to your gallery page of your card and one to the thread youre posting to here. When youre posting your reply to the thread go to the other page and copy or cut the address from the address bar. Come back to the thread page and paste it. Its all done with a right click on the mouse to find copy and paste. Its that easy and we want to see your card!!!

I had no idea how to link either until I started doing Beth's challenges and then got hooked on all of the fun challenges. If you have probs. just PM me. I can't wait to try this new technique. Nancy

Here is a guy card from me combining this challenge and the color challenge. This was a lot of fun. I'll definitely be doing this one again. Thanks for the suggestion, Beth. You come up with the best techniques!

Oh, this so reminded me of some amazing cards from this company in New Mexico - you have to see these...

http://www.bandjsartstamps.com/card_...d_gallery.html

Not only are the images amazing, but they also sell this really cool matte embossing powder. Now I'm going to have to play w/ my stamps that I bought from them.

Enjoy!

There is never a deadline on these challenges! Just do them when you get the time and keep them coming...we love inspiration!
