Let's say that you have $55.00 to spend. With Sale-A-Bration coming up (and I've read about the lack of love for many of the SAB sets), I'm just curious as to what you would choose. Spend 50 for a SAB set, or go to PTI to spend $55 and get free shipping. I'm in need of replenishing my cardstock and I just want to hear what some card-makers out there think! I love SU colors, but I know lots of people love the PTI cardstock. So I'm just curious.
Personally, I'd go to Papertrey, but I've never been a SU girl either. I also like the fact that Papertrey sells clear stamps (the increased visibility and lack of a wood block is ideal for me) and they have heavier cardstock. They are a bit limited right now, but there are some great colors to start with and they all seem to coordinate well. Good luck and have fun shopping!
Well, I'm biased towards SU! so that's the choice I would make. The DSP and ribbon that's available with SAB are very pretty. I think those will both be big hits.
I love my SU products, but personally I would go for the order with PTI. I love the colors of there cardstock and how sturdy it is. I prefer to use the PTI for my card base and the SU for layers. I find the PTI holds up better. I just got my PTI order and there Rasberry is just yummy, they also just introduced the Black CS as well. Good luck deciding.
I like SU cardstock - it's one of my regular purchases. But I do love the weight and colors that Papertrey Ink sells. I also use their coordinating ink pads and all of their ribbon is absolutely gorgeous ~ I really like the twill and saddlestitch.
Bottom line for me is easy - I have a reasonable supply of all my favorite and most-used SU! colors, and I don't really like the SAB catalog. I'd go with PTI. If you do, be sure to check out the coordinating Perfect Match DP ;)
I'm with most of the above posters, I'd go with PTI. I have so much SU and right now I am in pretty good shape. I am going to one SAB workshop and have already budgeted for that so an extra $55 would without a doubt go to PTI.

I can always use more paper. Both are good options with good paper and good prices. So, do you like any of the SAB options? If not, then think about your next projects or look through your stash and see what's getting low.
I really like the botanical blooms, so I may wait for SAB. My favorite all-time SU color is Rose Red, and I've heard that Raspberry Fizz is a great color from PTI along the same lines or similar color family. So I change my mind just about every 2 minutes. I need cardstock, so anything I buy from either will really just be cardstock right now.
I happen to LOVE the SAB stuff this time. I actually would like one of each choice. I think the dots one looks like punched tin and the botanical and sayings set is fantastic. SU paper is wonderful and coordinates with their ink soooo well. But, you should look at the flyer and decide whether or not YOU like anything in it. If you do, then you can decide where you will get the best value. A free set is a fantastic enticement for me, but that's because I like them!
It would depend on whether I liked any of the SAB sets. This year, I don't care for any of them at all, so I'd definitely go to Papertrey. I think their cardstock is WAY better than SU's. It's thicker and the colors are richer and more contemporary.
Wow, I've been having this same debate with myself. I've even got my basket loaded up @ PTI with all sorts of yummy cardstock and matching ribbon.
I viewed the new SU catalog online and it didn't do much for me. I ordered one off of eBay thinking I might like some of the sets better if they weren't on my computer screen.
Go with your gut!
I wouldn't let the free SAB set or the free shipping if you buy $55 influence my decision.
If you want cardstock, I recommend basing your decision on cardstock alone and which brand you prefer. Many collect both types, although so many of the colors are similar (I have both Real Red and Poppy and cannot tell them apart!) I think that it is no longer practical to purchase and try and store 2 brands with every color.
The SU cardstock is easier to punch with and to layer with and to make die cuts. It is easier to tear and easier to rough up the edges. It has a very very subtle sheen that I love. And it matches SU's patterned paper.
The PTI cardstock is thicker and makes a much better base card. It matches its patterned paper, which is much more graphic, smaller in size and more limited in choices.
If most of your bases are white, I'd recommend some white PTI and SU colors.
And don't forget Gina K's luxury cardstock for white. Sheer heaven. Almost as sturdy as PTI's white, but a coating that makes using copics, markers, colored pencils a breeze.
Oh, and Cornish Heritage Farms has its Prism packs on sale............but I think they are too thin for a base card.....
This isn't helpful, is it?????? LOL

I buy from both companies, and keep a good stock of PTI white, cream, and craft cs and most of SU's colors. You really can't go wrong with either SU or PTI. If I were you, I'd flip a coin. Might be easier than getting a consensus out of us, LOL!
I have converted from SU! to PTI. I like the sets from PTI, they have such a variety of use, they take up less space, and best of all, free shipping at $55 purchase! That's my 2 cents.
I love SU cardstock because there are so many color combinations and a hugh gallery of Su card ideas to motivate me on THIS site. I love their Su new in colors combo pack and want to get another package with the SAB

I've had a blast reading everyone's opinion. This actually started last night when I was making guacamole and looking at my ripe avocados and started thinking about seeing that as one of PTI's colors. I think that I'm about ready to order little packs of PTI colors to see what I think. That way I'd have March to still take advantage of SAB if I really decide to. Are there any PTI colors you especially love, or don't care for? I'm fairly familiar with SU colors, but no PTI experience, yet!
My favorite color so far has been the Ripe Avocado. And I've gone through several of the large packs (50 sheets) of Kraft since that was released. The Aqua Mist is also a personal favorite, though the ink doesn't show up as well as I'd like (I may just need to reink my pad). Good luck making your decisions - it can be tricky!
I am an SU paper addict! I am a paper addict period. I have to say SU paper is my first choice for cards. Aren't we lucky to have so many choices?! The thing is I have so much money invested in SU paper, ink and ribbons I could not afford to start another line. I love love love the fact everything matches. I buy other cardstock when I am in shops but just a little. Have fun shopping and let us know what you decided on.
I love the color of the Raspberry Fizz, it is such a wonderful color. I also got the ribbon to match and this morning I ordered the ink and a few other colors of cardstock and ribbon as well. The shipping is a fortune for me (I live in Canada and don't get the discount) but I love the weight of the cardstock and the colors of the ribbon. I have always been loyal to SU but I tried the PTI white to use with Copic's and I just loved how the white is so good for the card bases, I still use SU, but I use it mainly for the layers on the cards now. Let use know what colors you finally decide on.
Well, I placed an order! And since it's not Feb. 1st, I guess you can tell I decided to try out PTI. When I saw this lovely card in their gallery, I finally made a decision. I am not a huge lavendar fan, but that color with the green just made up my mind somehow! I ordered smaller paper packs of a majority of the colors, as well as that Sympathy set. I love how versatile it really seems to be. Thanks for the input from everybody!
That was part of my decision, too! Shipping and taxes on top of the $50 SAB purchase, puts you up higher than I'd like! But, I'm sure by the middle of March, I may have seen such great cards here, that I go down that road, too!
Another vote for PTI convert. Love their stamp sets, paper quality and colors and with so many matching embellishments. Can't beat their prices in my book.

Well, I'm a lover of both companies! At first I didn't think the Sale-a-bration cattie had much to offer, but then our stamp club met yesterday and the ribbon bundle is yummy and my demo had made such cute projects with the Yummy set that I couldn't resist. I definitely prefer PTI's white to use for card bases and their Aqua Mist and Lemon Tart shades are wonderful. You can't go wrong either way. :-)

I agree with 3boysstampin . I'm not interested in the Sale-a-bration stamp sets but I'm going to get the ribbon bundle and DSP. I will order Classic pads, cs and most likely 'Lovely at a Tree' and 'Doodle This". I'm the hostess at our stamp club this month. The Level 1 hostess stamp sets don't 'shake my tree' either. Probably will get hostess DSP. Getting off the track, I really love the new 'Urban Oasis' DSP-something about theses colors.
That being said, I do have a list of about $75 for Papertrey too!!! But that will have to wait until the budget allows, maybee April.

Wow, that is so true....that the SAB sets will be available on e-bay by next year for next to nothing! I really didn't like the SAB catalog either until I went to a stamp camp and one of the cards used had Botanical Blossoms on it...I buckled under the tempation and did order $60.00 worth of supplies.....I do like the sentiments set also...I'm sure the ribbon is great but do I need to spend more to get it free?...no, probably not!
I like both companies but PTI has caught my eye more and more lately. All of the colors of cardstock I've tried are so nice, as is the ribbon and (of course) the stamp sets.
I was so jazzed for SAB. Then they released the sets I thought, "Eh." I didn't get too excited over any of them. I wonder how they decide which to put out as SAB sets? I LIKE a couple of the offerings, but none of them make me WANT to spend $50 or $100 right now. and that is really what they are supposed to be doing. FUNNY thing is, I really do like a few of the Level 1 Hostess sets and if I could get three of those, I would order right now.
I'd go PTI, personally... much more for your money... cheaper shipping (free at $55) and no tax.
And. . . have you all seen the new buttons at PTI? small polka dot ribbon? assorted cardstock packs? packs of multiple colors of polka dot DP? kits? It gets better and better ~ I just hope they don't add too much too fast and have backorder issues.
