I really like it better without them in the General Stamping threads...It has gotten to crowded now and you have to pick and search...I would rather go to their forum when I am interested, not have them shoved under my nose on every page...

thanks Karen, appreciate the feedback. it's a balance between trying to give our member companies the exposure they need and not annoying people. we'll adjust as needed based on feedback.
I kind of like them in the General Forum. I don't always go into the Member Company's forums. It will give us a chance to see what is going on. SCS is so big it is hard to see everything. This seems to give you a taste of what else is out there.

Great idea, Daven!!! I like it! I get caught up in checking the gallery, then reading the regular forums and almost always forget to ck out MC threads. I agree, they're stuck over in the other rooms and, lots of times, we're missin' great announcements, etc. They're payin'.. can't we give them a little slack?
May God bless, Sandi

I support the MC and buy from them on occasion, but I don't care for this new idea of having the MC show up in the General Stamping thread. It's visually intrusive to me and annoying. Just my .02 cents.
I feel like advertising is really overtaking SCS. Between the ads that flash around at the top of the screen, the "member forums" (which I don't think anyone visits anyway), and now the member stuff in the general forum, it's all becoming too commercial for me. I would rather see SCS step up promotion of the dirty dozen gallery, or even have a "SCS subscription" option where you pay a fee to access SCS without ANY advertising whatsoever. Sort of like a paid LJ account.
I do not care for the new board method. I do visit the member company forums for threads, but I do not find it beneficial to have them in the general stamping forum. I do find it more distracting than helpful.
The way I generally read SCS is "new posts" so there's plenty of exposure of the member companies if I want to see them. And, I do know where to find them if they don't happen to show up.
I think they might get a bit obtrusive in General. JMHO
Thanks for letting us have a voice in this, Daven.
sorry, it's a bit much. I am ADMIN on another( military related) Board and we limit the posting of threads across more than one Forum to important announcements and information.
I don't appreciate being forced to weed through posts that I can get in another forum in order to find new stuff in the general Forum.
The graphics are distracting, too. at least where they are.
Sorry, Daven, but I have to agree that they are intrusive. People know the MCs are there. If they want to go there, they will. I didn't notice the icons a few minutes ago, though, so perhaps you've pulled them, lol...if so, thanks!
I think it's a great idea! Although I'm very familiar with the MC program, I rarely visit their forums. I like the idea of being able to scan all of the posts at once! I don't find it intrusive. The icons are so small as to not be annoying, and make it easy to disregard those posts if you don't care to read them.
Hey, Melanie!
they're little rectangular icons. Right now you're not seeing them 'cause Daven's still tweaking. Here's a screen shot from last night, right after they went live:

ditto for me - I read 'new posts' so will run across member threads there and 'pop in' then

I don't see the icons anymore, but the forum view is really exploded...wide... so I have to scroll to the right to click on the "last post" icon on a thread. I can tell by looking at the posts that the MC ones are like double spaced, but I'm not sure why that would affect the width of the screen view...
I'd rather not have their larger icons. When it's just their name, I can easily overlook those but it's like having someone's avatar in the main part of the thread. Just my .02
I so appreciate the wonderful work you do on this site. The amount of material we receive for what we "pay" is phenomenal. Thanks.

The same thing is happening for me. It is only happening in the General Chitchat forum.
I don't necessarily have a strong feeling one way or the other right now towards the MC threads being included in the general. I do however find it very annoying visually to see the page view too wide and the spacing out of sorts.
I don't mind at all the idea of having the threads visible there in the GS forum but I have to admit I find the icons a bit intrusive. I scan thread titles to see what I might be interested in or where I might have something to offer and that scanning is interrupted by the extra space created round those icons. Personally, I zone out a lot of advertising and I can see me doing the same with these over time which will actually be the opposite of what you want to achieve, I guess!
Dear Daven - I posted this in the General Stamping thread on this topic. Just realized that it should be here!
Maybe there could be a sticky thread for each MC at the top of GS - with an icon, color lettering, eye-catching!, the works . . . and that sticky thread can link you to their own forums.
The owners could edit the title for announcements, sales, interesting topics, whatever; for example: "Breaking News!! Riley Skydives! ~ click here for details!" or .... "Come Join us at the Crafty Secrets Challenge ~ See Monday's Hint here!!"
Just a quick link to the MC forums. Even I would like that.

We are also reading the comments and trying to customize where we can-
while it's nice for the people who never visit the MC, we aren't wanting to drive you nuts either!!!
Yeah, that's why I'm saying don't duplicate threads from MCs in GS ~ because it's overwhelming the forum and will drive us nuts.
I'm not saying customize the threads that are coming to GS from the MCs, I'm saying instead of doing what's being tried right now, just give each MC a sticky thread at the top of GS. It can introduce the MCs to those that still don't know they are there and it also doesn't have to be stagnant. The MCs can edit them as needed to highlight events in their forum. The constant feed of every MC thread is annoying.
I'm sorry if I sound irritated, AJ ~ I know you from the forums and I know your reply was earnest. It's just that I'm not sure if by your reply, you really understood what I was suggesting. Thanks for hearing us out and giving us a chance to offer ideas.

better now? there's still a height issue with those MC threads being a little "taller" but we'll get that cleaned up too.
i like the mc threads with the general thread. i also really like the icons but i liked them better in the front of the thread title. that way it's easier for me to spot it before i read the thread title. i'd also like to see the stamping bella icon a little darker. it's hard to make out with my old eyes LOL
I don't like having the MC threads in the general stamping talk forum. I feel like I've got even more advertising being shoved in my face. If I want to go over to their forum, I know where it is. I don't like having it forced upon me. Just my two cents...
I like the MC threads in the general area so I can be updated on new releases and contests. I think it's nice as long as it's just one or two threads per company. Any more than that would be too much!
I don't like the MC threads in the general stamping. I find the icons irritating and intrusive. I am another person who feels the advertising is being ramped up, and I don't care for it.

I guess I really never have seen it as advertising..........but just where a lot of the inspiration and chatting and ideas and fun and support come from. But I know there's lots of different opinions on the subject.
