Ott Light Help Needed

I have the an Ott table lamp (18 watt). I bought it to replace a tensor light because I couldn't find tensor bulb locally. (Yeah, I know..I buy a new car when the ash tray gets full too!:-D ) But anyway...

The problem is that it hardly puts out any light! Much less than the Tensor did. In fact, there is a shadow of the lamp itself from the overhead lighting! I hadn't done much stamping during the holidays and I'm not sure if it was always this weak of a light. (Got it in the fall.)

Is this as bright as it gets? I'll buy another bulb if it will be brighter! Is it possible that the bulb is just not lighting properly?

Oh mine is a softer light but so accurate so I am happy. I like the not harsh essence so I like the low lite.

I have a few of them and they are all kinda week but they do the job for me.

I thought I wanted an ott light too until I saw the wattage of the bulb. I wanted more light not less. lol Friend got one and I was so glad I passed on it. I found "daylight" bulbs at walmart and use in my regular lamp and am very happy with it.

I bought a higher watt bulb at Joann's (with a coupon, of course).

It comes with a "normal" incandescent light fitting. MUCH more light than an OTT and much less expensive!!

Hi there! I have the same problem. I just got the Ott light when Joann had 50% off and free shipping. I think the $9.99 artist clamp on light I got at Staples gives off more light.

I was thinking about checking with Ott, before I return this, to see if the socket can handle a higher wattage bulb. Don't want any electrical problems!

Otherwise, I'm just going with the spiral bulbs. If you get the ones from Home Depot or Walmart that note 6500K Daylight on the packaging...those are the true light bulbs and are very similar to Ott lighting.

In fact, I use the 6500K all over my house...especially nice in the dreary winter months

I thought it was just me! Having the age problem you know! So I guess I'll go back to my old tensor. It will hold any bulb. In fact, the tensor bulb looks just like the (twistie) bulbs available everywhere. Would the day light bulbs give the same *true light*?

I have the Ott floor lamp with 18w bulb and I like it ok, but I have it lowered to about 20" above my workspace. Previously I bought a daylight bulb for my clamp-on light and the light had a blue tint. I wish the bulb was brighter on the new lamp but I can live with it.

the whole point of an ott light is that it gives true color, not sure if that matters to you or not it sounds like that was not the reason you purchased it. It is great for machine embroidery and all crafting that requires accurate color identifacation. I love mine, sorry its not working for you. is it too late to return it?

I bought it for the true color. But it just doesn't have enough light! It's almost like stamping with a night light! I've just been noticing this lately. I don't remember that it was this low lighting when I first got it or I might have returned it. That's why I thought maybe the bulb wasn't fully lighting.

That is the reason I wanted one. As it is now I usually only find time to craft at night and hate waiting until morning to see the colors in the daylight. I usually just take a best guess and go for it but sometimes I see it in daylight and think ackkkkk. Maybe you have a stronger wattage than the one I saw. The daylight bulb is different but it does a better job than regular bulbs and is brighter than the ott. Not perfect but will do for now.
