Hi everyone, I need some help. I have the large scalloped ovals and large scalloped circles, and I want to buy the plain ovals and circles. In order to layer the plain circle on top of the scalloped circle, do I buy the plain large circles or the plain small circles?
I'm replying to bump your question up the line a bit so someone can give you a definite answer. ... Wouldn't it be simpler if Spellbinders and other sellers of them just gave the sizes of all the Nestabilities in each set on their Web sites? Everyone is always asking the same thing here!
I think it depends on how much you want peeking out from behind your layer. If I layer the "like" circle (large) with the "like" size scallop (large) you can't see the base of the scallops, just the arches poking out from behind.....they seem to be disjointed and floating. Interesting but maybe not what you are looking for....
If you want to see part of the base oval that is holding each scallop in your layer then you need to go up a 1/4". That means the "small" set, but the next nestie size up. I think I have enough to demonstrate that with pics if anyone is interested....
let's look to see if anyone has done that before I break out the camera....

Snazzy, thanks for the help. I want to actually see a little bit of the base oval, so I think I will get the small. I'm glad I asked, I was about to order the large!
It would be easier if Spellbinders had a chart for layering so we knew exactly what we needed. I kind of wished I had bought entire sets instead. Live and learn!
Great blog link! I knew someone must have gone to this trouble already! Having once tried this and realized I didn't have the look I wanted...I've since been buying more nesties! LOL.

I SO agree! I remember that Marvy did a chart with all their punches so you could see how each layered - Spellbinders PLEASE give us a chart!! Ease our pain and confusion! I've bought doubles of a die because of the size confusion issue. I also get confused between the terms "Classic" and "Standard" - which I think some vendors use interchangibly.
You should have the complete set...large and small of either plain or scallopped edge to be able to layer any way you choose.
If you have the large scallops and the large plain dies you will only be able to layer one time. Add the small set to that and you will be able to layer 2 times...your image layer, the next layer and let's say a scalloped layer to finish it off. Does that make sense.
I purchased my circle set individually and every time I went to make a card I could not layer as I intended. I bought the small set and my problems were solved.
I visited the site and thought her pix explain everything about the sizing. I have embossed many items with the CB, never die cut. I now have the BS as well. QUESTION: Will the die cuts always leave a cut mark on the acrylic when you run them through the machine? And then, when you run it back through to emboss the paper in the same die cut with the nesties, what happens to the padding? Does it get cut as well?
When I bought the wrong sized ones at my Lss, she told me the scallops and matching plain set will be one number diferent...ex: the Sm classic plain ovals are #112, the scallops to go with them are#113.very confusing before I knew this. Now I have a set of ovals I am trying to find a trader for the circles at my LSS LOL
It always leaves a mark on my acrilic pad when I cut, if I adjust the "sandwich" so it doesn't cut into the pad, it's too thin to cut all the way through my cardstock. No the rubber imbossing mat does not get cut. Don't know what machine you are using but I have the big shot and have to readjust the sandwich between cutting and embossing. The newer nesties packaging has a tip sheet inside the cover telling you what sandwich for your machine. I also make sure to turn the cutting pads every couple of cuts so it doesn't warp in one direction as badly. I also keep the same pad on the cutting side. I found when I emboss only sometimes the previous cut lines on the pad will show on my cardstock so I try to keep one pad smooth.

Yes, like hawk said, it will always leave a cut mark on your acrylic pads. I also turn the direction of my pads, flip them over, and make sure I place my Nesties in different spots so that my pads last longer.
You can use the crease pad on top instead of the acrylic mat, that will let you cut and emboss at the same time.
You would use this sandwich, from bottom to top
Multi-Purpose Platform (MPP), tab 2
Acrylic cutting pad
Nestie blade up (the blade is the ridge)
Cardstock or paper face down
Crease pad
Roll through Big Shot/BIGKick
I usually roll it away from me, then roll it back towards me so it goes through twice. I get a nice emboss that way. The crease pad is made to be cut into - it's like a mat you would use with a craft knife - so it's ok if you see the outlines cut into the crease pad. There is a difference, also, between the impressions pad and the crease pad. Make sure you are using the crease pad. You can buy it at most places where the Big Shot or BIGKick are sold. Also, the Big Shot FAQ is a great thread, and Alicia is always amazing at answering questions.
On a different note, I ended up buying the entire sets of Nesties from Ritz. So I will be able to layer easier now. I will end up with two sets of the large scalloped but that's ok, it means I will get those cut twice as fast if I can run my sandwich through with two of the same die!

Thanks for the great thread and to Angel for the blog 'heads-up'. I was just looking at the nesties to-day trying to decide which one I should purchase. Not many places have them in my area of Canada.

I haven't really found them in Canada, but ellenhutson.com has AMAZING customer service, reasonable prices and shipping, and carries all of the nestabilities. you should check her out.

I'd start with one set of the basic shapes - either the ovals, circles, squares or circles - whichever shape you use the most in your cards. Then maybe labels 1 or labels 2.
