...do you get upset if you get a "Christmas-type" birthday card? (by that I mean one with a decorated Christmas tree or angels or anything like that). I was getting ready to do my December cards and just wondered what you thought. Thanks.
I have a December birthday and it would just be nice to get a handmade card for my b-day. : ) It wouldn't bother me one bit if it was winter or Christmas themed.

I don't mind as long as it doesn't say "Merry Christmas". The thing that does bothers me a little is that my husband always wraps my B-day gift in Christmas paper. I mentioned it to him once but by the time another year went by he forgot and did it again. I don't want to whine since he is giving me a gift so I've decided not to bring it up again. To him paper is paper is paper.

My brother is a Christmas Baby and we always give him both a B'day card and a Christmas Card. My son and daughter are both Dec. 'babies' and just plain appreciate whichever card they receive. No problems either way
I have a December b-day, and would want a birthday type card. It's my birthday, not Christmas. I also used to hate the "combo B-day and Christmas gift because it's expensive" thing.
my son was born 6 days before christmas and although he's still too young to know the difference it upsets me when people mix his b-day with christmas. (yes, he's only had one b-day and it's already happened) for the most part though, i just accept that this type of thing will happen and i take on the responsibility myself of making sure that each day is special and separate for him.
My sisters birthday is Christmas Eve so I always make her a card that has nothing to do with Christmas so that she feels like we are celebrating her special day not the Lords birthday. My daughter has her birthday on the 27th and I do the same for her as well. I think that it just makes them feel like I took the time out of my busy Christmas schedule to make them a card just for there day. This is just what I do.
My parents always made sure I had Christmas gifts and birthday gifts, but they would put the birthday gifts under the tree with the Christmas gifts. On Christmas morning, I had to leave some of the gifts lying there and wait two more days to open them!
That said, I appreciate birthday cards - winter theme is fine, but I'd prefer no Christmas wording on the birthday card.
Hi, xmas baby here and I for some odd reason I do not like Christmas. I much prefer halloween! But it does bother me when I get holiday themed gifts and decorations. You gotta keep things seperate! It's my day! But these past few years my bf has been doing a great job of making me feel special on the day that everyone and their mama gets gifts!
My older daughter was born on January 2. When she was born, I resolved to always have the Christmas tree down before her birthday so that her birthday photos wouldn't be full of Christmas stuff. And definitely no combined birthday/Christmas gifts. I also have a niece with a birthday on December 18, and her father (my BIL) has a Christmas birthday. So we always have Christmas plus three birthday parties when we visit that side of the family at the holidays!
To answer the OP's question, I steer clear of winter/Christmas themes for December birthday cards.
My birthday is just a few days before Christmas. ANY handmade card is appreciated. I've never really minded having my birthday combined with our family Chirstmas (celebrated on Christmas eve). There were lots more extended family there to celebrate with me that way!

I have a December birthday - I love to get any kind of card but the ones I like best are the ones that say something about me as a person rather than the time of year or whatever. I have a friend with a Christmas Day birthday and she's the same. She adores poppies so I usually try to do her a card with some kind of poppy theme. I guess if she adored snow the same way, I'd make her a winter theme card (but I'd do that even if her birthday was in August!).
My birthday is in December and I would prefer not to receive a Christmas card for my birthday. Winter theme is fine. Am truly thrilled to get a hand made card created just for me.

one of my nephews is a Christmas eve baby.. and my sister is MOST adamant: birthday cards and pressies MUST be in BIRTHDAY decorations. in fact she makes it a point to insist that she would much prefer 2 smaller gifts ..one Holiday, one Birthday, rather than one larger gift.
In fact she has been known to rewrap an extra Christmas pressie in Birthday wrap from the grandparents who are old and forgetful....
My MIL birthday is Dec 27th and I was told and shown right from the get-go that we are NOT to bring her birthday presents to the Christmas gathering, we make a special trip to their house 2 days later for BIRTHDAY cards and gifts wrapped in BIRTHDAY wrap!! ALL of her children (10 of them) have done this for years!!

Wow, I'm in good company with a December birthday! Growing up, my family made a point of keeping my birthday separate - it's the 27th. They often wouldn't even let me open birthday gifts on Christmas. This year, we are probably getting together on my birthday to celebrate Christmas ~ they asked first if that was okay with me. I said, absolutely fine, and they'll probably have a birthday cake and gifts wrapped in birthday wrap, too, if there are gifts ~ we're old now lol!!
If someone were going to make me a birthday card, I'd love winter or any kind of card, but I don't think I'd want it to look Christmas-y. I had a dear friend who would send me a Christmas card and a birthday card - I always got them on the same day and it was really special.
I got a card once, "for your birthday at Christmas..." and it seemed odd to me. My daughter's birthday is often around Eastertime and I don't think anyone would ever send her a "for your birthday at Easter" card. And I know someone whose b-day is on Halloween... yikes ~ can you imagine getting one orange and black card after another? I'm just saying....

I don't mind getting winter themed cards, but I would prefer not to get a Christmas card for my birthday. Definitely do not wrap a birthday gift in Christmas paper! A pet peeve of mine, for sure! ;)
Growing up, in my house we wrap presents all year around in WHATEVER. Usually it was Christmas and Hannukah paper. My mom swore up and down that one year we would make a Jewish friend. So she always bought the paper.
Later in life, after I moved out and got married, my mom and I had this one piece of wrapping paper that we kept using over and over again to send presents to each other back and forth. It was a running joke. That one piece of wrapping paper lasted a few years and several holidays and birthdays.

To answer your question, No. It doesn't bother me. But my birthday is ON Christmas, not near Christmas. So maybe that's a difference for some.
I have 2 sisters with birthdays in Dec. and one in early Jan. We make sure we always have a regular birthday cake and no combined Christmas / BD cards. We want to make sure they are made to feel special and not just caught up in the holiday season. The hardest birthday is the one on Jan 8th as we are a bit tired, but not to tired to celebrate our sweet sister.
My birthday's on the 20th ... I don't mind a winter themed card, but it has to be birthday, not Christmas. It can be snowy, it can have snowmen, but it cannot have Christmas trees, angels, santa ... I never liked receiving gifts wrapped in Christmas paper, the doubling up of "this is for your birthday & Christmas" when no other sibling received the same "deal" ... am I bitter? not really LOL
My birthday is December 23rd, and my Mom's is December 21st. We've always celebrated together, and that is just fine. I am Jewish, so mixing the birthdays with Christmas was never an issue when I was growing up. Chanukah isn't as big a holiday as Christmas, so I never experienced a problem.
Fast forward to my 20's. I'm dating a man who is Catholic, and we are approaching our first Christmas season together. He has three siblings, whose birthdays are earlier in December. Those have been celebrated at his mother's, with a cake. It is my birthday, and his brother is flying in for Christmas. He is so excited, thinking about picking up his brother and his family, my birthday is forgotten. :( That was the first, and only time! That was 26 years ago. We've now been married for 23 years, and he's never again forgotten my birthday!
He always gets me two separate cards. He used to make me a birthday cake. Now we just go out to dinner, and he makes sure to "secretly" ask the waitress to bring a piece of cake with a candle. A few days before my birthday, he asks me to set out some birthday wrapping paper so he can wrap my gift. I am so lucky to have him!
With all that said, I would be very unhappy to get a double duty card from my DH, or from my kids. As far as anyone else goes, I would prefer to get just a birthday card, but I wouldn't be upset to get one that combined it with Christmas. But wait a minute........I only get cards from my DH and kids, my Mom, and my siblings.
Both my grandmothers are Christmas babies. We always seperate their birthdays and Christmas. No presents in Christmas wrap and Birthday cards!!! Since my Birthday often falls on or around Easter, I know how they feel. Mine often gets lost with Easter.

My baby will turn one on December 23rd. I plan on making her Christmas-style cookies/cupcakes and using a snowy/Christmas theme for her first. I would like to incorporate something to do with Christmas into every birthday, but will celebrate it on its OWN day with its own bunch of presents (in birthday wrap). I want her to know she was born at a very special time of the year and that she was the best Christmas present I ever received!
Yes! I hate Christmas paper on my birthday presents! My family wraps them inside out. They stopped putting my bday presents under the tree with notes that said "do not open until your b-day" (2days later) because I would open them anyways and then demand a birthday present on my bday.
And I'd prefer not to get a Christmasy bday card.
When my 2nd baby was due Christmas day, my mother told me it was divine retribution for all the complaining I'd done! lol
My birthday is on the 18th and honestly, it doesn't bother me. I absolutetly love Christmas and often have had Christmas themed b'day cakes and such. I don't mind the combo gifts either depending on what it is like once year I got a bed and mattress set for b'day/Christmas and it was WELL worth a combo gift.
Sometimes though I do feel that I get lost in the shuffle, but my parents are real good about trying to seperate it all.
