I recently bought some stampin spots off the buy/sell/trade forum.
There were 55 spots for $30 plus $10 shipping. I was thinking what a
great deal! When talking to the seller (who I am not going to call out
on this thread, i just want honest opinions), I
was told they were all juicy (which they are) and that there were only
3-4 non-current colors and 3 repeats. This means there would be as
little as 47 current colors (no repeats) which leads me to believe I
will get almost full sets of all of the color families.
When I get them in the mail, there are actually 8 noncurrent colors
and 8 repeats leaving me with what amounts to 39 colors (barely over 3
color families since one is black and one gray). Many of the inks are very messy, so messy in fact
that I cannot tell what color they are. I tried to attach some
pictures so you can see what I am talking about.
I tried to talk to the seller who told me about several personal
circumstances. I am not trying to be insensitive, but it bothers me
when people use that as a reason to not be totally honest with a
buyer. I think these are hard times for many people. I could tell you
about the difficult times my husband and I are also having (definitely
not as bad as some), but in a nutshell we both have degrees however my
husband decided to go enlisted in the military so that he could serve
his country but to be able to choose the job he wanted he could not go officer. We were still doing fine financially as I had a great job. Then we got orders
overseas where I cannot find a job and we now support a family of 3
off barely more than $2000 a month in a country where $2000 is now
even less due to the poor exchange rate. We are trying to pay off
$40,000 in student loans too. We are lucky that is our only debt! So I
try to save money where I can and that means buying alot of my stamp
stuff used.
As a hobby demo, I could have gotten 3 sets of spots for $54. We do
not pay tax here and I could have gotten free shipping if I padded my
order with a few other things on my wish list. I thought I would be
getting very close to 4 whole sets. I would have paid the extra
$14 for brand new sets considering the condition of the ones I did
recieve. I do not expect them to be perfect at all, but I can hardly
dig through these without getting ink all over my fingers which
transfers to my work. I had hoped to use these often even after getting all of the full color pads because I go on lengthy trips back to the States to visit family and these would be nice to bring along so I can still do some stamping.
Please let me know if you would be upset too or if it is normal for spots to be like this and I need to stop being so picky. Also, does the color Summer Sun have a pink hue to it? I
noticed that mine does, but have been unable to check all the colors. The seller
will only return $10 to me and after the New Years at that. I offered
to return the spots to her on my dime if she would refund my money.
She said she would just throw them away so she does not want them
back.
She said she would just throw them away so she does not want them
back.
Seriously then she knew they were bad.
I think offering to return them at your expense was fair...and if she is unwilling to work with you to make it right that way, I would file a complaint through Paypal or your Credit Card company if at all possible.

Another option would be to figure the percentage that are useable, rather than spending $10 to send them back to get $30....and go with that. Maybe she will go up to $15 back...and you are both at a loss...but probably easier than a war.
Just had to add more...

I would willingly do that, but I don't think she will because she clearly said she will only give me $10 back sometime in January. I just think she sees me as being picky and that she needs the money. The inks are very usable. I have only tried a handful, but I didn't have any real problems other than with the summer sun one being pinkish (and it may be like that normally, i have never owned that color). It is just that they are very messy and get all over me and then my card and also that 16 of them are duplicates or not current colors which i specifically asked about because I wanted as many current ones as possible. I know I am probably being picky....
So sorry this happened to you. I would have been VERY disappointed when I opened the pkg and viewed the items that are in your photos! I've had spots and inks for years and they look nothing like that. I am very particular with mine but yours don't seem like any care had been taken with them. I hope you can work something out. Good luck.
Oh...if you don't have much of a chance of returning them, could you take maybe a Mr Clean magic eraser and try cleaning off the plastic cases so they don't get ink on your hands? This will take time, but atleast they'd be more useable. Good luck!

That is actually a really good idea. I will try to look to see if we have that at our exchange here. Is it in the cleaning or laundry aisle?
The condition of those are awful! She should have been honest with you and told you what they looked like ... even if they still work fine, they would be a disaster to work with ... and like you say, transferring the ink from your fingers to your work. How very frustrating! I dont know what to suggest, but I would maybe take it up with a moderator .... you should get your full money back from that deal, as you are willing to send them back to her. WOW, I cant believe the nerve of some people!
And to be fair, like I said, those are some of the worst ones, but that is 17 of 55 and almost all of them have some kind of big ink stain on them. There are a few that are unopened in very good condition.
I would be upset especially because you specifically asked about current colors & duplicates. I think she should definately refund at least part of your money. Good Luck!
No, you are NOT being picky. If she told you that there were only 3 repeats and 4 duplicates, you didn't get what you paid for. I would be soooo mad if I were you! She may need the money, but that doesn't give her the right to STEAL it from you. You should probably tell one of the SCS people about this deal if you haven't, so maybe they can prevent her from pulling one of these again!
I guess that makes me SUPER picky. I wouldn't even give those away. I'd THROW those away. I cannot image not refunding your money. I would be seriously put out about that. But I will admit that I'm a super neat freak about my stamping stuff.
I hope you get it resolved. And I guess this is just reinforces my mantra to only buy new.
Someone was trying to sell those?!?!? Those, my friend, are give - aways!
A couple of my spots have leaked, but not nearly that bad.I would never sell those! If someone was REALLY in need of a certain color,I would give it to them, but otherwise I'd just toss 'em!
Yep, I would be upset. She obviously lied to you if the actual number on non-current and repeat colors was different from what you received. Also, I don't know how the heck you get spots that messy. I would think you could clean them up (possible with just a wet cloth, since the inks are water based), but should you really have to do that for the price you paid. No way. I hope you get a good solution to this, sorry it happened to you.

I don't think you are being picky and if I were you, I would raise a stink. First with the moderators and then with Paypal. She did not tell the truth about repeats and retired colors and the condition of the spots is deplorable. I've only had one "bad" deal here and after I threatened to contact Paypal, it was resolved. Sorry you've been had!

The whole ordeal is outrageous to me - but this right here is what would enrage me more than anything - you were completely mislead, and when you inquired about it - were given excuses, as if that was an appropriate response to being lied to? And then her response to having them returned is I would just throw them away!!???? If that is true, she had no business selling them in the first place. If I were you I would definately take it up with a SCS moderator.
Also, if you can find a magic eraser where you are, I would definately try that as well - hopefully you will find a way to make them usable.
And, my Summer Sun pad, does have sorta a pinkish look to it, but not once it is stamped - HTH
Yeah, a couple of my brand new spots leaked, though not quite that bad. I like to think I am an honest person so I would definatley disclose the condition of barely banana. But honestly I love my stuff so much I don't think I could ever part with it. I have never bought anything through SCS so I really don't know how that works. I shop eBay often and learned a few hard lessons so I never buy without an actual picture. But you would have no reason to believe that a fellow SCS would try to rip you off.
But she obviously knows she ripped you off. If she were planning to throw them away if you returned them, then she knows that they are not even useable. Do you have this conversation in email? I would report her. And if you used a credit or debit card, contact your bank to reverse the charge.
That was not a fair sale and I think the seller definitely owes you your money back. The product is in poor condition and you weren't told about that, not to mention the false listing of which colors were duplicates.
Off now to start a seperate thread about a rating system I've seen used in another forum...
So sorry to hear about this! I once bought some colorbox queues on ebay and on receiving them found that 80% of them were unusable. I complained to the seller who was quite flexible and though didn't refund all the money, did give me back 70-80%. So I can totally understand how frustrated would you be to have a seller who doesn't care about her reputation. I wish there was something we could do about it.
if you had seen pictures you probably wouldnt have bought them and neither would i. like someone else said, those would be give aways. i do have to say tho, that the spots i had leaked bad and some looked like those you have pictured. i ended up giving them all away to my niece when i got all the large pads. im not trying to take sides here but the seller might not have known any better about the condition. when you store the pads upside down there will be leakage.
If she doesn't not want them back and would just throw them away then she knows that they are junk. She took advantage of you and I think you should tell a moderators and get a refund. Otherwise the rest of us could wind up being victims too!
I would be extremely angry if i would have gotten something like that in the mail. Wow my inks look brand new and not sure kinda looks like kids got after them or something. She should refund you your money regardless of what she plans to do with them after she got them back. It was misrepresentation IMO.
I just finished sending a message to one of the moderators so hopefully that will keep this from happening to others. I thoght I posted a message about how to delete this topic, but maybe it did not go through. I was able to get the answers I needed and I don't want to start any more drama than there needs to be in case anyone remembers who the seller might be. I do not see an "edit" button anywhere on my post.

this seller SHOULD be known to people so she can't swindle more people out of their money... some people just have no conscience.. what she did to you was robbery...

Not all the hard times in the world expalins the total lack of care she took in these spots! I would be LIVID!! And actually I am for you, I would demand a refund contact a mod and toss them in the trash where they belong!!
All of my spots look like that, and that's why I threw most of them away and will never buy them again. You're supposed to be able to store dye-based inkpads upside-down without that happening. I would NEVER try to sell those as usable. I think you were cheated all the way around, and I don't think you're being picky. If there is a way to report her as an unreliable seller here at SCS, I would do that. I know it's 20/20 hindsight, but definitely ask for a photo of everything if you decide to do something like this again.
The seller is RESPONSIBLE for stating the exact condition the product is in. Seriously, I would contact a mod with this issue. They are great at helping even it is to stop a bad seller from selling more unuseable items like that.
Also this can fall under mail fraud as the law states a seller must get the product to the seller in the condition the item is stated in or it is considered fraud.
I would be extremely upset if I bought those.
TImes are very hard right now and everyones money has to be spent wisely. The seller should understand that.
If you have all the emails, send them as well to the mod.

Forgot to add -
If the mods can't get her to refund you, I would file a mail fraud complaint. Those usually work in getting the seller to refund. Save ALL of you emails and any thing else needed to support your side.
That is actually a really good idea. I will try to look to see if we have that at our exchange here. Is it in the cleaning or laundry aisle?
the commissary should have them with the Swiffer stuff.. top shelf..at least that's where they are here.. and if they don't have 'em.. PM me and I will send you a couple. In exchange for some Pocky or Piccolo....;)
I'm still fixated on this $10 after the new year business. What kind of a crazy solution is that? You spent $40. She will give you $10 back? She doesn't even want the spots, she considers them trash, but you must pay $30 for them? This is an odd solution. I could ALMOST see it if she gave you $20 back, then you'd be splitting the difference.
Also, can you clean up your duplicates and sell them? You might recoup some of your money that way. Obviously, you would explain that, "while these spots stamp just fine, the cases are very messy." If only this gal had said that, you wouldn't have a leg to stand on because she would have been honest. You would have opened the box and thought, "Wow! She saw me coming! Oh, well, she said they were messy!"
Honesty might have made you a fool, but at least she wouldn't have been a liar. I'd rather be a fool than a liar.

Oh man, those Piccolos are addicting! My friend always picks them up at the 100 yen and offers me some and I cannot refuse. :-D Thank you for the offer.

She told me that she had said they had been sitting awhile. That is not anywhere in my private messages so maybe she had that conversation with someone else. ::shrugs shoulders:: Telling me they have been sitting awhile doesn't really reveal they would be in poor condition anyways. Sometimes I like to hear things have been sitting awhile as it means it has gotten less action and would probably be in better condition than if it had been messed with daily.

I miss the 100 Yen stores... we were in Yoko and had THREE within five minutes of the front gate, and that wasn't counting the SIX STORY one in Yokohama.
a lot of our single friends completely furnished their BOQs with 100 yen store stuff.
I sure hope you get this resolved quickly, and at this point, I would feel NO compunction whatsoever outing the seller. because frankly, I can see January coming and you NOT getting any money back at all with more excuses.
Well, I am off to bed. Here is to wishful thinking that I will wake up in the morning to a pleasant email saying we can resolve this peacefully. Probably not going to happen...I don't think she has signed on in the last day so I am sure she will be even more angry if she sees this post. Oh well. Happy thoughts. Christmas is in 3 days...there are things much more deserving of our attention right now than a basket full of ink spots! It is my daughter's first Christmas....I am SO excited to get to be Santa for the first time!
