Default How do I tie a bow to get it to look like this?

http://onehappystamper.typepad.com/s...pirations_wit/

My ends are always diagonal -- not straight apart from one another.

Thanks!

Here are two excellent videos, slightly different, but you get the same result.

When you get ready to "finish" the knot, and are pulling it tight, you need to kind of tinker with each end of the ribbon as you're tightening the knot -- or at least I do! ;) This helps to flatten out the center so that it's nice and smooth, and helps to counteract the ribbon's apparent natural tendency to stick up and out at the ends, rather than laying nicely across the middle.

I don't think that one is a bow, I think it is a knot. Knots are easier to get to lay straight. When I tie my bows, I try to do it while they are still on the roll of ribbon. It is easier to adjust them and I end up with less waste. To get straight ends I would keep my bow (still on the roll) a bit loose and then adjust the tails to the position I wanted then pull the loops to tighten and hold everything where I want it to stay.

I find the easiest way to make a good bow is first put the ribbon section where you want it. Then take a piece of ribbon 6 or 8 times the length of the bow 'ear',KWIM? With that piece of ribbon make 'rabbit ears' right in the middle (like you teach kids to tie shoes with) and tie them in a knot. Glue dot it to your ribbon. Voila! All done! Try it - you'll like it.

I always tie both my "fake bows" and real bows upside down. The ends are perfect every time. Not sure why this works, but I'd say 95% of the time my bows tails are perfect.

(by upside down I mean that I turn my card upside down and tie the bow/fake bow like normal)

Shelia,

That's what I do, but my ends never end up horizontal, like this.

Do yours?

the card you showed isn't a bow.. it's a knot. i don't think bow ends will ever end up straight, so you're asking about a knot, right???

follow kristina's knot tutorial, and you will get what you want every time.

If you use a "granny knot" when tying your "bow", this will make the centre knot lay flat and the ends will come out even.

Subscribing 'cuz I have a difficult time with bows and knots, too. I will even put the difficulty level on a card up a notch if I make a card with a bow or knot because they're just not as easy as you think they would be.

That's funny, that's what I do. First I make the bunny ears though.

Try this easy fix: When you first start tying your knot/bow, whichever way you cross your ribbon--do it the opposite. Thus, if you cross right over left, instead cross your left over right. Then continue with you normal bow/knot tying.

The extra bonus is that your bow/knot stays tied better. My husband taught me this technique when I was always complaining of my shoes coming untied.

This might help, too. It was the first video tutorial I ever made entitled "How to tie a bow". Hope it helps!
