I wasn't sure if this info should go in the cooking thread!

MSN posted on their Delish site -- all about cookies. This link shows cookies using rubber stamps. Anything look familiar?

edited - just tried the link I pasted - and it takes you to all the cookies. Look for cookie #3 (when my page loads - its thumbnail is bottom right corner)

So - I actually checked out the recipe for the stamped cookies - to find out it came from County Living, and credits SU for the stamps! [shame on me - didn't check it out first, and don't read County Living !LOL)

A question though - if you clean your stamps really well - can you use stamps that have seen ink before - with your cookies? The site says to use "unused stamps". I don't have any of those!!

Isn't that snowflake stamp from SU? I wonder how they got the imprinted images to be colored - it never says anything about that.

I was wondering how they got them colored too, they look yummy and very decoratice not the typical iced sugar cookie type thing.

I would bet they painted them with egg yolk paint...
Beat an egg yolk until foamy...Add color of choice. Use paintbrush to apply. Bake as directed. It keeps its color, doesn't add taste and is pretty.

if you click the photo of the SU stamped cookies in the first link,
it says to paint with a paste made from lemonjuice and Lustre Dust
which I think is like our paper crafter's pearlex powder but for wedding cakes and baked art...
try a party store and wedding places.. that is what I'm going to do!

I even like the leave overnight to dry part..
like a built in break which I always need crafting with a kid!LOL!

I have stamped cookies quite a bit. I used fondant as the frosting & food color as the ink on a makeup sponge to ink my stamp. I have used both new & used stamps for my images. The used stamps were washed with dishsoap, I told my attendees this & no one had any issues with using them. I'm not Betty Crocker so I even purchased the cookies, laid the fondant on top, stamped away & recieved rave reviews. Hope this helps

FYI:

I did find that mikes had 3 color family trios in the wilton aisle..
they look like pearlex jars
and if I remember correctly, they were:

red blu yellow
neon pink, neon blue neon green
and baby sparkle pink, baby sparle blue (almost silver ) and sparkle pearl

they were about 8 bucks each *I think*
( I had armloads of stuff and coupons everywhere when dh brought them to me )

I decided to skip them
so I have no insight as to whether they work
( but I do not see why not!)
they ALSO had 2- 6 packs of food markers
which I would probably get after christmas for easter cookies..because I have food color drops like crazy in my kitchen and I really like the plain sugar cookie with the simple embossed look I am just putting this off until spring

I DID HOWEVER,
overbuy BULK chocolate bars from my local chocolatier, Purdy's
so I will try to stamp those using my heat tool and some christmas stamps I haven't used yet.
( mitts, hats and flakes...)
it will be hit and delicious miss,
lol!
but I'm confident I can figure out how to do it...
any hints out there?

Hi all I have stamped on cookies for years usualy for valentines day. All I do is use a new stamp that I use just for cookies then I use a foam plate and food coloring as my ink pad the stamp on my frosted cookies turns out great at least I think so. Merry Christmas to all.

I've done this on marshmallows also. Used a small snowflake stamp and put them in with snowman soup gifts.

As for Luster Dust, I've only ever been able to find it in speciality candy/cake shops where they sell supplies. I've never checked M's so I'll have to see if it's the same. I've only ever used it dry. I make a cinnamon chocolate star cookie at Christmas and after they've cooled, I put a thin glaze on them. When that dries, I take a new paint brush and brush them with gold luster dust. They shimmer!

I have stamped cookies, clay, playdough and concrete with different rubber stamps over the years. I think about anything is stampable!
