I remember reading that the new spring/summer catty will be out January 11th. So I figured that the retirment list should be out by now - or pretty soon. I checked the SU website but there was no mention of it. Anyone know when it will be available? TIA
That is correct about the retirement list. It will be posted on December 9th. I don't know that the new catty comes out on January 9th though. I think that demos get theirs at the leadership conference starting January 7th, but I don't think it will be available elsewhere until January 19th. At least, that is when you can start ordering from it.
Please excuse my simple mindedness, but as a new, and I mean new, stamper and having just spent lots of money for SU stamps and accessories, what should I be looking for now. Does this mean items will be removed from the catalog, never to be available again? Should I try to get stamps and stuff that I have on my wish list? How often do they do this?

Every catalog they retire quite a few stamp sets, so twice a year. And retired does mean "never" for retail sale again - the set will no longer be in the catalog or available for sale from Stampin' Up.
Should you get all the stuff you want as soon as the retirement list is released? Not necessarily. Often, demos will sell off their retiring stamp sets ... so you might be able to score them for much less than retail (sometimes even brand new, uncut sets). Check the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here or eBay. Also, you might want to see what's in the new catalog first - there might be some sets that will serve the same purpose as retiring sets (and then you won't care if the one is retiring).
I bought a rose set that retired last catalog and the rose set they have in the current catalog is (IMO) so much better! I wish I had waited to see the new catalog before going crazy ordering retired sets.
Of course, if there's something you cannot image life without ... then support your demo and order up
Hope all that makes sense - and welcome to stamping!
Also remember: the accessories on the retired accessories list are while supplies last, but the stamps on the retiring stamps list can be order right up until January 18th when the catalog ends.
I guess I had the total opposite experience than Melissa did before I was a demo. . . I wanted to get a reinker for one of my in color ink pads before the new catalog came out in August but Stampin UP ran out! I searched everywhere and ended up paying over double for it and then shipping on top of that. I learned my lesson: buy accessories as soon as the list comes out if you want them
I say order what you just have to have and skip the rest and save your money for the new catalog stuff! Lots of demos do sell their retired sets, but I won't be doing that, LOL I am a newbie and can't part with mine

Oh, I think you bring up a good point - especially regarding accessories! I was specifically speaking about stamp sets. Buy all the reinkers and DP you need (or want, it's a fine line)

Wow, this is the first time ever to have a discount on the retiring stamps sets - and free shipping too. I am surprised, but pleased! A lot of cool background stamps are retiring.

I know- in the past SU has always said that the fact the stamps are retiring is enough to generate excitement. Add in 10% off and free shipping and it's a really big thing!:-D

I think that SU is doing there part in keeping the economy going by offering the discount and free shipping, they know that we can't resist a sale and free shipping.

Great sale! Be sure to take another look at all the masculine sets leaving... I have most of them and I love them for guy cards. Some real classics on there!

I just talked to my demo and she said that the free shipping is on orders over $100. I think that she let me know because she has my order shipped to me instead of getting it delivered to her place, (I live 5 hrs away from her). I don't know if that means that each person gets free shipping with $100 or if that means if the demo places an order $100 it is free shipping no matter what each person orders, even if it is only $25 as long as it is shipped in one pakage to the demo.
remember that the $$ amounts vary depending upon whether you are in US or Canada. Sometimes I forget that and it gets very confusing to follow the thread!

super happy about the free shipping, and even though im a demo, there are 2 sets that are retiring that im going to have to get! glad for the added discount!!
And don't forget that with a $20 order, you can choose stamp sets from the Catalog Sampler at 20% off. You can combine this with the 10% off Retiring sets and get FREE Shipping. That's quite a savings!!

This is soooo good it's mind boggling. Ok, note to self, start Stampin' diet next year.

Does that mean anything not on the retired list will be in the new spring catalog again even the "To you and Yours" christmas set since it's not on the retired list ? Thanks, Beckaroni
