Default Do Sales Bother You?

Recently I've read some stampers opine that if a stamp company has a sale, the stamper feels ripped off if she bought the stamp earlier at full price.

I've also seen discussions of sales "devaluing" a product.

I love sales!!! I don't care if I bought it at $20 and it is now for sale for $15 or $2. As long as I get my turn to take advantage of a sale someday, I can't begrudge someone else's fortune.

So, companies, I love sales!! Keep them coming!

having worked in retail for over ten years, I know that when a company puts something on sale, they are still making a profit..and sometimes a large one. That being said, I spend what I can afford or feel is a fair price. sale or not.

if it sells at a cheaper price later.. so what. I had an extra week's use out of it than the other guy didn't.

I look at it this way, If I waited for it to be on sale 50% off, it might be gone by the time comes and I won't get it at all.

Count me in as a lover of sales! I admit to feeling a bit of irritation when I buy something and then it goes on sale the next day, but since most of the time I ONLY buy things WHEN they are on sale, this doesn't happen too often. I'm talking about spending for things like crafts, clothes, etc. Necessities I just suck it up and buy it if I have to sale or not.

Keep those sales coming! Loving the free shipping that's being offered these days too.

I'm another one who loves sales. I can understand the frustration of buying it right before a sale but I figure that's the way of retail. There are lots of things that may eventually go on sale after I've bought them. I, in turn, get lots of things on sale so I figure it evens out.
I've also been much more aggressive lately looking for online sales or at least free shipping. It's amazing what you can find if you take the time to look.

I love sales! It's an incentive to shop!!
If I love something enough, I don't hesitate to pay full price and if it goes on sale later, so be it. I still love it. I figure it all balances out.

I agree with a previous poster. I've had the item that much longer to use and enjoy.

The only time I regret it is if I have paid full price and for what ever reason, find I don't like the item and won't use it. Then I regret not waiting till it went on sale.

Yes, in some cases you can take your receipt and item back and get the sale price honored, but you can only do that so many times before the store would put you on a questionable list.

Sales will NEVER bother me!! If I bought something at full price, I must have wanted it bad enough to pay that amount. I'm not going to whine and moan if someone else has a chance to get it cheaper later. I say "lucky them" and move on.

I love a sale too!

However, what is bothering me right now is that I have some things in my Amazon cart and the price fluctuates on a daily basis. It's like watching the stock market. ;) Does anybody know why this happens? It drives me batty because not only am I trying to decide what to buy, but when to buy it!

I just shopped at a "yearly " sale for stuff I needed or didn't need, but surely hadn't planned on buying right now.

The backstory is I saw a stamp mentioned HERE in the cutest snowman thread and had to have it enough to track it down and have it ordered at full price.
That *full price investment* led me to join the company mailing list so I was notified of the annual sale.

So bring on the sales! Loyal customers also shop at full price , or post gallery creations made with their sale items that trigger other full price sales!

The only time in recent memory it bothered me was when I went out in late August and spent $4500 on Ikea cabinets, only to see them have a sale of 10% off in October. That one hurt a little.

I love sales, but won't buy simply because of a sale. These days I have to absolutely love something before I'll place the order. I feel disappointed if something goes on sale after I've purchased it, but I don't tend to pay full price for anything, so this doesn't happen often.

I find it weird that someone would complain about a sale on stamps, but I bet they don't mind if Target has a sale. I don't see how that devalues a stamp set. Only the perosn who owns the set can really place a value on it. Does the image get sloppier if its bought on sale? I don't get it......

I love a sale as well, but there is one company that ALWAYS has a sale, why not jus lower the price and have an ocassional sale? If you put something constantly on sale no one will ever buy it at full price.

I think what they're referring to is some folks complaining about a sale on a product they may have very recently bought at full price.

The concept of of a "sale" has probably been around for as only as retail stores have been existence. Do I get frustrated if I buy something only to see it go on a sale shortly thereafter, of course I do- I'm human and do not have the luxery of unlimited funds. On the other hand, just because I might get frsutrated occassionally does not mean that I think sales should be discontinued or are bad. it's just part of the nature of retail.

About a month ago I ordered the All in the Family stamp set with matching wheel from SU. Just recently it went on sale for 50% off where i could have gotten both those stamps plus the accessories set for less than I paid. The day the sale came out my demo called me so upset. She felt horrible and was worried that I would be upset. Yah it would have been nice to get the deal but stuff happens. I in no way was upset with her or her services. She had no idea. I did let out a little DOH! when i saw the sale but what can you do. I save lots of times on other things so in the end it works out. I for one am the type of shopper where I wait for a sale for some items and splurge on others. It all depends on how quickly I want something. If I can't wait I buy it and don't let it bother me if it goes on sale later.
I say bring on the sales!!

I'm not sure I am following.

But, in the long-term, it makes the most sense to operate at full MSRP, with an occasional fabulous discount on certain items, but, not all items, and an occasional 10% off everything for a limited time, etc.

If they discount everything all the time, you're right: no one will ever buy it at full price and they'll never make the profit needed to pay the business's bills, pay their employees, and earn a living for themselves.

I was watching the news one night, and there was a segment where economists talked about the bigger picture of "deflation" in our current economic times; consumers keep holding out for better and better prices, the retailers drop them, and then when things are selling, it's not at a high enough margin to profit, and keep their business healthy. They can't pay their employees, have to lay 'em off, and that contributes to the unemployment problem we're having nationwide.

It was a very eye-opening story!

Small business owners are among the hardest working I've ever seen--especially within this particular industry; more than one I know personally puts in 16+ hour days.

Kohl's always has a sale, so why buy anything full price? Never, ever, ever buy anything at Michaels without a coupon. I can certainly see what JulieHRR is talking about...

I am all over sales. I don't think it devalues the product as long as it is different things that are on sale each month. What I can't understand is why consultants that I have purchased from don't email me their specials each month. I would probably buy more if they sent me an email once a month rather than waiting until I was invited to a party.

Being charged DOUBLE the MSRP would seem a total rip off.

But, I don't ever consider paying full MSRP a rip off if the item I bought goes on sale shortly thereafter; I mean, that's just the way it goes, UKWIM?

Sometimes, ya' get lucky and land a great deal, and other times, ya' don't.

I'm glad to see that others enjoy a sale.

That's not to say that I expect sales all the time or will only buy things on sale. I cannot IMAGINE trying to run a small business, especially now, so I try and send my $$ to the little guy (woman)....even without a sale.

love, love, love sales. I actually bought a christmas gift a month ago and it went on sale for half price on black friday. I took it back and repurchased it at half the price. I try to wait until there is a sale on something to buy it, I very seldom buy at full retail price.

Another sale lover here! The only time I feel unhappy about a sale is if I just bought the item, haven't used it and a few days later it goes on sale.

I buy things I wouldn't otherwise buy if it wasn't on sale. It makes me think twice when I see it on sale..my original, nah I don't need another (fill in the blank) gets over ridden by well, its on sale and I can use it for (fill in the blank) project.

As to companies/stores with perpetual sales, yes that does devalue the item. It similar to M's and their coupons - I wait for bigger cost items till I have a coupon to use. Little stuff I may purchase even if that week it isn't one of the specials but higher price I wait. Course M's has so little new inventory that most of my coupons get trashed LOL

I always feel like it's some sort of victory if I get something on sale. Lots of brick and mortar stores have price adjustment policies. If an item goes on sale within 7 days of your purchase they'll give you the difference back. I've done that a few times at Joann and one time (I'd bought numerous small things) it ended up being about $20 difference.

I know that Target also price adjusts since I've used that service many times.

Happy Shopping ladies!

I LIVE for sales!!

If I pay more at one point then a sale that doesnt bother me. It is the companies best interest to run their business the way they see fit and to offer sales when it benefits them, not particularly when I *need* something;)
