Default I just got the most interesting ENVELOPE in the mail...

We just got a holiday card from DH's boss. I opened it and was a pretty pre-printed square card with a photo inside with the gretting. All very typical and I didn't think much of it... until I went to throw out the envelope. I was about to rip it up when it hit me that the envelope is not square, but instead it's a standard size envie for a 5x7 card (not sure the exact size). Anyway, they had sealed off about a third of the envelope, leaving only enough room to fit the square card snuggly. So the card itself didn't seem at all like it didn't "go" with the envelope AND the sender paid standard postage rather than the extra required for square envies. Brilliant!!! Does this make sense? Has anyone ever done this before? What is your process? I'm sure I can figure out some approach, but I'm wondering if there is a tried/true technique and adhesive used to acheive this. Maybe I'm TOTALLY out of the loop, but this was new and novel to me!

Thanks!

Wow, you just never know what cool technique you might learn if you're scrolling through SCS at 3:00am. I love the idea because it's pretty, and it saves a little money.

Julie, thanks for sharing your visions!

As soon as I started reading the original post, I thought Julie did something like this on her blog awhile back. Can't believe that was 2 years ago! Julie always has the best ideas.

Hallmark had a line of square cards a few years ago and they did the envies this way. I don't know if they still carry that line of cards - I never go in a cardshop anymore.

What are the exact dimensions of an "A2" envelope? I just have never understood the A2,A4--etc. sizes.

There's a chart at the bottom of this Web page that explains the different "Announcement" envelope sizes (A-2, etc.)
http://www.paper-papers.com/envelope-size-chart.html

Wikipedia has a similar chart about 2/3 of the way down this Web page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Envelop...standard_sizes

(Gotta love Google for finding answers!)

I bought a square card from Target about a year ago and the envelope was rectangle and sealed off to hold the card securely. I've been doing that ever since I saw it.

OOO.. I just usually put them in the regular envie and leave them to 'float' around on their journey... but I love your idea.. and the punch is 'uber' clever!

Oh, I'm still wearing glasses. My new ones didn't arrive in time. I just took 'em off for that shoot, cuz I didn't wanna have a shot of me wearing those older, less fashionable specs. (hair flip!)

Smack! I could've had a V8! I just mailed my cards today and I used an old set of envelopes I had because the photo I was including with my cards didn't fit in a standard envelope. So, I had this old box of cards sitting around and decided to use the envelopes since they were big enough. I could have done this and it would have been way cool!

Oh well, now I know for next time! Thanks Julie!
