SU Customers: will online catalog deter you from buying a catalog?
With the new online catalog coming out I know there are mixed feelings among demos that people might not buy catalogs if they can see it online. I'm a customer & I will probably still buy the catalog. I can't carry my computer into the bathroom with me for quality reading time!;)
I've found as a Pampered Chef consultant that having an online catalog is a real bonus. Our catalogs are very inexpensive compared to yours, but sometimes you can't get a catalog to someone & they can look online.
As a SU host, I'll be so glad to tell people they can look online. Otherwise, I don't get orders from people who don't have a catalog! And, unlike my PC catalogs, demos can't just hand me a stack of SU catalogs to pass around.
I can't imagine NOT having a print catalog -- I'm still a person who needs paper in her hands and love looking through my catalogs, both current and older ones. I get lots of ides from them. Gotta have my paper.... LOL

I don't care if I could even print the whole catty out from on-line........I'd still want to have my usual catty with all the pictures. I take mine EVERYWHERE with me and I like having it handy here at home - ON MY STAMP TABLE - in case I need an idea or just get a "visual" for a "how to".

not for me
I probably am going to be in the minority here, but having the catty on-line isn't a big thrill for me. I prefer being curled up in my easy chair to browse. All I need is a glass of tea, pen & paper & some post-its.
You didn't have a category for me. I book a show with my demo as soon as the new catty comes out, so she gives me one for free for booking a show! I'll continue to do this, so I'll always have a hard copy.
I am excited about the online version though, because I have a number of people at my shows who would like to order but can't come. And it's difficult for me to get around to all of them and give them the time they need to look through such a large catalog. This way I can just refer them to the website, and reap the benefits!!

Nope Im there right with you. I think the hard copy is better then seeing it online. I think the mini holiday catalog is hard enough to see online as it is. You have to scroll down so many pages and click on it so its easier to see. Imagine doing this with over 400 stamps sets EEEK. I still with my hard copy LOL.
Just wait til you see the online catty....WOW! It's really nice and very easy to look through w/ lots of fun features...it still won't replace having that nice shiny copy in your hands, though. As a demo, I'm glad to hear that most people still want the paper one.
I still want a hard copy of the catty....online will be fun to browse thru, but I am like everyone else, I can take it to the bathroom for the quaility reading time. And besides, I make marks in my catty and I don't want x's and such on my computer screen.

!
Oh, I should've thought of that! That's what I do, usually, too! This time I had already had a show last year, so when I had a 2nd one in June, I asked if I could have the new catty as my "gift" when it came out.
I will alwasy want a hard copy, because there will be times when the SU website is down, my connection is down, or when I am in a place without connection at all. And I like having the copy between my stubby little fingers to get inspiration from. Online just can't beat a hardcopy at all. It's just an easy way to share if there is something you want to show to someone.
Wish all the companies did this since I'm quiet and shy by nature and won't contact a demo out of the blue to see what they offer. Like to see if beforehand, so I know if there is anything I might be interested in and then maybe brave myself to contact a demo/consultant.

I too always book a party (my own order for my birthday fills my party requirements) and receive a free catalog. I also buy the catalog for my daughter-in-law. I will always want a catalog. My catalogs go on all my road trips, and I just love having access to all those great ideas at all times! Gay Howe
I never liked having to pay for it, because I only use it for ordering, not for ideas. Actually, I haven't had to pay for it for several years....my demo gives them to the girls in her Stampers Six club. I like the idea of having it on line, but I do like to flip through the actual catalog when I'm making up an order.

I think having an online catty will give those fence sitters an opportunity to fall in love with what's inside and then they'll want the hard copy. I have a feeling demos will see their catty sales go up as a result. Time will tell.
I answered that I've never bought one before - only because I've always earned my catty by hosting a workshop, and that usually as part of a stamp club.
I will definitely want to continue having my own hard-copy of a catty, but I do like the idea of being able to look at it online, too. It will be a great convienence, but not a replacement.
It's pretty common for someone to hop on SCS in the middle of the day to ask for an item number or description because she's ordering without a catty at hand. Seems like it would be nice to have the web option so accessible.

This is me also, the day my demo gets hers she drops off mine. I have been doing this ever since I've discovered Stampin' Up.
I wouldn't be able to function if I didn't have my catalog. I call it my 'BIBLE' and it goes everywhere with me. My sister and coworkers all tease me because I always have it with me. (But they know they can always come to me it they want to look something up in it)!!! Hey what can I say I'm obsessed - LOL

I'm going to love being able to look at the catalog on-line! But, it's nice to be able to see it in the catalog and do the shopping there. The on-line catalog will just be an enhancement to the catalog, in my opinion.
Besides, I use the back of my catalog to pound eyelets on!;)

Having the online catalog will be a wonderful convenience (just think - telling your non-stamping friends to look on page such and such), but it will never replace the hard copy of the catalog. Looking at it in bed, taking it along on those long car rides, etc, etc.
I chose "NO, I'd still buy one", but I don't actually buy the catalogs for myself. I usually get a free one (either from my stamp club, or for a booking). I did buy one last year as a gift however.
Personally, having the catalog online will be really cool for those times I want to look something up, and I'm not at home (ie: I'm @ the office - shhh!). But, I like having the catalog in my hands.
I don't see the online catalog as a replacement - but just another tool.

I think having both online and hard copy is a great idea. If I'm in a big hurry and don't have a catalog, I love to go online and browse, but there's nothing like the hard copy! I take my catalogs everywhere!!!

I will always need a hard copy or two floating around my house! I can't curl up in bed or a comfy chair with my computer (unless DH gets me a laptop). I love going to bed with my catalog!

I voted undecided. It is not very often that I need to have a hard copy and I am almost always online anyway... but if they make the hardcopy one spiral bound, then yes I will buy one (wierd huh?).
My SU! demo gives me a catalog when it comes out because I order so much from it anyway. If she didn't give me a catalog, I would still buy one. I just like to have something tangible in my hands.
I like having the hard copy of the catalog so I can view it anywhere even in the bathroom. I also can mark it up and write in it and flag all the pages to what I like and want to order. I have catalogs back from 1998. I like to look back on them and see the retired sets too.
Definitely paper as well!! I'd use the online catalog when I'm on my computer but when we are in the car and DH is driving - I never go out with out my SU catty!! Always need to add to my wish list or decide on my next order!!
I would definitely still buy a hard copy. I have gotten mine the last 2 years as part of a stamp club. I like to have one to flip through when I'm sitting on the couch watching TV. Plus I don't have the internet at home.
It will be nice to have an on-line copy, though. For instance, if you're looking through the gallery and see a set you really like, it would be easy to check pricing.
Always would prefer a hard copy. Copies from past years probably won't be available so I'd have the hard copy for reference. I don't store mine in their boxes so the cattie is invalueable for seeing the set a stamp is from (expecially if it is discontinued).

I HAVE to touch the catalog over and over! I also have to mark sets with a ? or a star, you can't do this with an online catalog. Personally, I would use it purely for reference. Good Q!
It will be great to have an online copy and a hard copy. The hard copy I can take with me on trips, bring to my bed side and kitchen table. Not to mention the fact that once the online copy retires for a particular year, I will still have my hard copy as a reference source. I love having all the old catalogs handy.
