I just upgraded to Picasa version 3 and it has a great new text tool. You can just click on the button and start typing. Use any font on your computer, choose different colors (including from your card), change the transparency of the text, rotate it and scale it larger/smaller. You can then copy it, select all the photos you want a watermark in the library, and paste it to all of them. I went a little crazy showing all the things you could do on this card.
Yes, I know photoshop elements allows you to do the same thing, but have I mentioned Picasa is a free download from Google? I love it, love it, love it! I could go on and on about all the features it has that makes it so wonderful, but just download it here and try it yourself-you can't make a mistake, because picasa always keeps a copy of the original.
*Note: there is an option to add a watermark to all the photos when you upload and/or export them. However, it is small, black, and in standard google font, so I didn't like that feature too much.
I can't find it. I even went to the help menu and they show an icon to select to add text, but I don't see it anywhere. Any more helpful hints, ladies?
Well this is too funny. I was trying to get rid of that "updating thumbnails" box and somehow ended up with the options on the left including "basic fixes" etc. Hmmm.. now exactly how did I do that?!
HOLY WATERMARK, BATMAN!! wowowowowowo!!! This is the coolest thing EVER!! Do you know how long it took me with Photoshop Elements to do this following Kurtis' tutorial for Photoshop ~ HOURS!!
SO - is there a way to apply this watermark to every photo in my Greeting Cards Design folder??
I'm so glad you guys liked it! I try to spread the gospel of Picasa whenever I can!
To add the same text to all of your greeting card pictures:
In the library view, click the photo that has the text on it.
Select "Edit" from the top menu, then "copy text"
Now, you can either select multiple photos by pressing the ctrl button as you click them OR if you want to select all the photos in a certain folder, click the first photo, then press the shift button as you click on the last photo.
Once you have all your photos selected, go to the edit menu again and select "paste text".
Some other neat stuff to fool around with: the retouch tool, the "I'm feeling lucky" button (works better for "real" pictures, it gets confused with card pictures!), the "warmify" button (under the "effects" tab-great for helping photos taken under fluorescent light), and of course, good ol' fashioned sepia (under the effects tab)
It took me about 3 seconds to follow your steps to apply the watermark to all the photos. (Slightly longer for the program to actually paste the text onto 249 photos!) A word to the wise though: Place one watermark on a portrait photo and select only the other portrait photos to paste to; then watermark a landscape photo and place on all the other landscape oriented photos. OR place your initial watermark right in the center of the photo. I had done my first one on a landscape photo, near the edge, so the ones on portrait are cut off.
Not that I'm complaining LOL!! You just saved me a gazillion hours of work!! And the ones I just applied are already uploaded to my SCS gallery so it was really just an experiment. And it is so so so easy to reposition them anyway!! In the future, every photo I upload will be watermarked and it will be FUN!!
You know what's really funny? I had already had an older version of Picasa on my computer and didn't even think to use it. This program is too cool and I'll use it all the time now.
PM me your address mtgchic - I want to send you a thank you!!
Thank you so much for telling us about Pacasa. It is so easy that even this puter dummy gramma can do it. I have just been playing with it and got a whole lot of pix labeled and cropped in a matter of minutes. I have been trying on a free 30 day trial of an unnamed popular program that costs a fortune and still have not figured out anything in almost a week of my trial. I love, love, love this program!!!
You know, I had Picasa 2 on my pc and never used it until you said version 3 had the watermark...downloaded it and omg, the folders are big!!! I haven't found some of the options you talked about, but I guess I'll keep looking. Haven't tried to do the watermark yet. What do I click to start this going? I can't see where I click to type the watermark...Help

I don't know how long I have been trying to get my watermark to work. I followed Kurtis's tutorial, but got totally lost. We bought Photoshop Elements for big bucks, but let me tell you, I will go with Picasa any day. Within seconds it was downloaded, for free, HELLO!!!! Plus, it is super easy to use.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
And oh, let me give you a big >>>>>>>.

Thanks so much for this information. I've been trying "unsuccessfully" for the last few months to put watermarks on my work with not much success. I thought I would try out this Picasa program and I got on the first try, I also organized all of my photos in a better order.
You are an angel.
Thanks so much for sharing!! I just downloaded this & it looks WONDERFUL! I can't wait to use all it has to offer.......which is TONS!! I can't believe this is FREE!
I cant seem to find the black box...I feel so dumb. Help please

Bonnie, which black box are you referring to? Did you already download the program? Are you looking for the option to put text on the pictures? LMK and I will see if I can help.

I can't find what to click on to start typing so I can put it into my pics.

I FOUND IT...I ALREADY PUT THE MARKS ON ALL MY PHOTOS. Thank you so much. Maybe its because I havent slept for days.
But, how do you upload the picture to your gallery with it on there, or does it do it automatically. I got the blog down.
Thanks!

mtgchic, you are a life saver! Or at least a tremendous time saver. I've been playing around with different programs to design a watermark for my cards. I finally got it the way I wanted, but just didn't relish the idea of having to cut and paste to each and every image. You and Picasa have saved me eons of time. Thanks so much!

Thanks!!! I'm downloading now...and I can't tell you how thrilled I am to know that it should only take about an hour!!! (see my siggy line!) I never did figure out how to add a watermark to my card (I even paid to get one made and still couldn't figure out how to use it with the programs I had) so hopefully this will the answer I am looking for!!
