Default TLC34 - Shimmer Me Timbers!

This week's challenge is creating a shimmer with Pearl-Ex Spray Shimmer. Pearl-Ex Spray Shimmer gives a beautiful shimmer to cardstock....scans don't do it justice....it is just gorgeous in real life.
I hope to load an example by tomorrow.

To make Pearl-Ex Spray Shimmer, simply add about 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of any color Pearl-Ex to a travel size bottle of hairspray. Shake very well. Then simply spritz a piece of cardstock with the Spray Shimmer. Let dry and incorporate into your card.

FYI: Some spray bottles "spit" more than others...that is they spray out droplets rather than a fine mist. It just gives a different look.

When you upload, please put TLC34 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.

If you need help uploading or posting a link to this thread, check out this link:
http://forums.splitcoaststampers.co...ead.php?t=39488

If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

Sounds like fun! I've been meaning to try this, but haven't yet.
Off to find a travel-sized hairspray!

I just bought a travel size hairspray, but it's for my purse! Hmmm... may have to sacrifice it. Or, maybe I'll just run to Walmart and buy another!

Oh awesome! I made some of this spray up for the Pearl Ex Ways to Use it challenge two weeks ago and never got around to making a card with it! Will try some later.

Default I love PearlEx and Hairspray!

I have a few bottles in my stampin supplies and use them regularly. I used them on a few cards which are in my gallery!

Here is one that I posted a few weeks ago. I used the pearl ex (white) and hairspray on the main image. That added shimmer makes the card so much more elegant!

Another card I made with the pearlex/hs combo on the main image.

***Just a note - make sure you get unscented hairspray. Sometimes those little bottles of hairspray are just so stinky!!! You never know if the recipient is going to have sensitivity to the hairspray. You can buy a few small empty spray bottles and a larger unscented bottle. Mix a few different colors up and experiment on whisper white cs. I have done green pearlex on white cs and it looks awesome. My favorite is the white though. (note to self: try gold or silver!) ***

Thanks for looking!!

Does it work better on glossy or matte CS? Or does it matter? I just tried it on a couple of pieces. On the glossy, I seem to have created "puddles." i.e. Instead of the hairspray staying where I had sprayed, it seemed to run a bit. So I got puddles of the spray which still show after drying, because the PearlEx ran to the edge of the puddle. Does this make sens to anyone?
The shimmer looks much more even on the matte CS.

I know when I did mine, that you can't just "spray it" on...you sorta have to get the paper into the mist. (spray in the air, then wave paper into it) Does that make sence!? I have done 3 cards with it, and I did all of mine on black. I am sure it would work on any paper though! Good luck. Keep trying!

I've always done it on matte paper so I don't know about glossy. Like Jacksonbelle I don't "spray" it onto the paper. Meaning I place my cardstock on the cement basement floor near the drain and then take the sprayer, holding it so that the spray goes towards the wall and the mist falls onto the paper.

I also added some rubbing alcohol so make it not so sticky (2/3 parts hairspray to 1/3 part alcohol). I also added a few plastic pony beads to help mix it up as the pearl ex will seperate and go to the bottom.

I've got some already made up with pearl (makes white paper just sparkle so for that snow scene!) and some with the gray/silver color (looks great on gray paper). I'll have to play some more.

My only word of advice is if you are planning to send the card out I'd plan on making it ahead of time and letting it have a week or so to air out the smell of the hairspray!

Default Too fun

So I was just out in my garage, spraying my scrap paper to see how this goes.

I took the advice and mixed in some rubbing alcohol and my papers have curled. Is this normal?? I am letting them dry so don't know if they will flatten back out or not, just wanted to ask.

I may not get to making the cards with these tonight but I am at least part way there.

Yep, mine did that too. I forgot about that part. I just left them alone to flatten while they dried on the floor.

Oh Lindsey! I love the copper! It looks awesome! Especially on the black. You definitely have to spritz it away from the cs and let is slowly mist the area or else it will blurb up in little areas. Great point!

I have some and haven't used it -- wasn't sure how, so thank you all for the great tips. Hopefully I can get out today and pick up some bottles (love that alcohol and bead ideas!).

I love how this place helps me stretch!

Here is mine:

Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

The Artichoke background is sprayed with Gold PE and the flower is painted with Pearl PE.

That is sooo easy and really does add -- thanks for the challenge (I've had the PearlEx in my drawer for a couple years and this is the first time I've used them :o )

Here's a card that combines TLC34, CC32 and SC43. I used silver pearl-ex in the hairspray and I actually think I preferred this card before I sprayed it with the 'shimmer' spray. Great color combination!

Thanks for looking.

I thought I'd come up with a really cool idea all by myself...until I remembered I'd gotten my inspiration from this challenge a few weeks ago. Lol! If you look very carefully, you can actually see the sparkle on the cardstock!
