By bold image, I'm pretty sure the hostess meant a more solid type stamp. Comprende?--not an outline stamp like you'd color in. A bold stamp pretty much impresses the color, no room for coloring in--where the outline just gives the edges of an image. Biggie clips: Giant paper clips like used in bookmarks--
see this card in my gallery:
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers. Remember, that's just an optional suggestion.

K, I've got the biggie clips!!!

Hmmm....if the bold image has no room for colouring how does it differ from a solid image??? Perhaps we could get an example of each????

Is it the 14th yet??? Off to start a stalking thread!!

I'll look back at the challenges and see if I can determine if there is a difference. I think they're one in the same which means I could delete the double entry and combine. Stay posted. Hostesses, if you see a difference, please explain.

I'm so excited for this VSN... I haven't been able to do one since April!! I actually made a special request for the time off for this one... of course, my mother made plans for me for Friday night, so I'll be a little late, but I can't wait... And I have almost all these supplies on hand! I just need to get the Biggie Clip... and how convenient that I work in an office supply store for my day job :-) Can't wait to see you all on the 14th!!

So, is a sillouhette (sp?) stamp the same as a bold or solid image stamp? Like Upsy Daisy, for example? Or, are we looking for something less picturesque, more along the lines of the For You or Hi stamps in Say it with Scallops?

silhouette perfect for the challenges--yes, upsy daisy would be a good example. It's so hard to find the correct wording when so many people describe them so differently. We're talking about the type of stamp that has an image that is solid rubber, not just an outline. Thanks for asking and hope this answers your question. If not, let me know.

Oh, I better start saving my pennies, lol.

What's a rim tag? Don't think I've ever heard that term.

HMmmmm, let's see if I can find a picture of a rim tag. . .

Here are several shapes--you can use a rimtag maker to make your own or buy them already done.

Oh, you mean like SU's metal edge tags?

Hi I'll jump in with my opinion.
Bold could be a silhouette or something like Baroque Motifs Flowers that have some space in the center, or Tart and Tangy or Garden Whimsey. Just something that applies a lot of the image, not just an outline. Upsy Daisy is a good option. IMHO. HTH

Hi everyone...hope it's okay for me to post this info in this thread...I'm also going to post it in the stalking thread. Anyway...I was at Michael's yesterday and found alphabet stamp sets in the dollar bin! HOLY COW!!!!! They had all different fonts to choose from and they had upper and lower case of most of the fonts. They are really tiny too! They sort of remind me of the size of those cute little snap stamps (not sure of the brand name of those...I just know Michelle has some!) Anyway...just wanted to make you all aware so that if anyone didn't have alphabet stamps for the upcoming VSN, they could acquire a set really cheap!!

I have a couple of questions. I'm on a no-buy and trying to substitute.

>

Ink? would that be ink from an ink pad or something else? I do not already have glitter or beads, so won't have them.

-double sided designer paper
I have solid - different color on each side. I also have solid on one side and design on the other. Will either of these work?

-water-based markers - roughly how many colors? I think I only have 3 or 4 that are water based.

-eyelets/setting tool - don't own these. I have about 10 eyelets that were part of a scrapbooker's package, but no setting tool. Can you still use this without the tool?

Sorry to be so difficult, but I went on no-buy because I have SO many supplies that weren't getting used already.

Not a problem. . .I understand. . .Let's see what we can do here.
>

Ink? would that be ink from an ink pad or something else? I do not already have glitter or beads, so won't have them. (Ink pad should work fine, any kinds of blingy things you have like sequins, brads, eyelets, or other kind of embellishments should be able to be used in some way, not to worry)
-double sided designer paper
I have solid - different color on each side. I also have solid on one side and design on the other. Will either of these work? (The solid on one side and design on the other may be your best bet, but either should work)
-water-based markers - roughly how many colors? I think I only have 3 or 4 that are water based. (anything not permanent or alcohol. For the technique you are just going to need some color darker than your chosen ink pad but in the same family. . .hope I'm not giving too much away. So if you use green, you'd want a darker green or darker color.)

-eyelets/setting tool - don't own these. I have about 10 eyelets that were part of a scrapbooker's package, but no setting tool. Can you still use this without the tool? (If the eyelets are aluminum, it is sometimes possible to set them with a ballpoint pen if you place the ballpoint pen on the back side of the eyelet with the point through the whole and push. . .I'd say for the challenge you could punch your own eyelets if you catch my drift. Big hole punch, little hole punch to make something reminiscent of a hole reinforcement.)

In all the cases, I am sure you have something that can be used for the challenge. I would strongly urge you to have punches that nest circles and some way to cut oval shapes--coluzzle, etc. You will need the different size circles and ovals on 3 challenges I think.

Ok.. that works great for me. I have plenty of nesting stuff, so that won't be a problem.

PaperTape, I have no double sides designer paper either and am trying not to buy stuff. I was planning on sitting down today or soon and making my own double sided paper using my own stamps and ink--I'll have to let you know how it goes, but I think it will be fun!
I don't have fancy waterbased markers, but my kids have regular old crayola markers and I use those, they should work. Correct if wrong, please, someone!

Hmmmmm, you really are going to need something that is transparent and somewhat sturdy. If you have a flexible plastic gift card box or a macaroni box that has the cellophane window, you could use that. Cellophane, basket wrappers, etc. You MIGHT be able to use a piece of heavy duty clear storage bags but I'm worried even that may not be sturdy enough.

Thanks. I can empty out a pasta box. How about a thick page protector?

Page protector might do the trick. That's what's fun about these challenges--improvising.

Hey there...thought I'd put my 2 cents in here. If you have a pretty good relationship with any teachers, ask them for a transparency. That's what I use. I'm a teacher and I just make sure to bring a couple of transparencies home whenever I'm going to make a card using acetate. But DON'T go buy a whole pack because those darned things are EXPENSIVE!!! Whew!

Also...you could probably use those clear report covers that have the little plastic sliders on the side. I know I have seen those numerous times at the dollar tree and there are several in a pack. HOSTESSES: If these would be too flimsy, sorry I mentioned them!

Sorry if I'm stepping on toes, hostesses...I know I'm not on that side this time (BUMMER!), but these are some ideas that I thought might be useful!

GREAT suggestions, Trace. You could even ask in your school's office, they'll have something. Toes are in great shape, you will never not be on OUR side! The report covers are a good alternative.

Question Gallery Selection Question

I have always uploaded photos to my personal gallery in the past, but used the appropriate challenge rules in the title/Keywords.

Is this inappropriate for VSN? I have never been able to participate before...

Is this inappropriate for VSN? I have never been able to participate before...

Same thing tonight. For each challenge, you will be provided a keyword. You will upload to your gallery and put the keyword for the challenge in the keyword field. We also ask that you do a link back to your uploaded card in the challenge's chat thread just like you do on a daily challenge.

You will need two circle punches that "nest" on top of each other. You will need 1-2 oval punches that "nest" on top of each other. If you have circles and ovals dies for your sizzix, you should be okay. In any event, you can always trace and cut by hand.

These questions may have already been answered a dozen times, but I've been off-line for over a week and haven't read the entire thread. That said, here are some thoughts....

Double-sided designer paper: Yes, you can definitely make your own with stamps! I used some paper that was a print on one side, white on the other. I stamped and embossed onto the printed side - I used a small floral sprig that looks almost like baby's breath and did it in white on a beige large leaf and flourish print. Then, on the reverse, I used a large flourish from Inkadinkadoo and stamped a gold flourish. I used it to make an accordion fold card -- lovely! One thought, if you are stamping a smallish image, pencil in some lines to make a grid, stamp in the squares, and then erase with a magic eraser.

Waterbased Markers: I don't have any waterbased markers either, and my kids are all grown up so I can't raid their Crayola stash. BUT, I use my watercolor pencils for everything and I've yet to come across a project or technique where I couldn't substitute them. (Of course, tonight may be the night LOL.)

Glitter: Well, here's my in-a-pinch secret (and this has to be the ultimate in recycling...). I was looking for a smidge of glitter one day - just enough to add some glitz to the center of a single flower. I dug out last year's holiday cards and scraped some glitter off a card onto a piece of paper. Now that is super tacky, I know, but hey, it worked. Then a few weeks ago when I was decluttering, I came across some old Christmas ornaments that were completely glittered. I did the same thing... scraped a bunch off and set it aside. I just used it the other day to add a red glittery highlight to some snowflakes. (I'll be posting those cards in my gallery this weekend -- I made two dozen for this month's Cards for a Cause project.... bet you can't tell the glitter I scraped from the glitter I bought!!)

You have until 10:00 PM on Sunday to upload your cards. I'm sending someone to give you help on linking.
