Please tell me I am not the only one who really doesn't know the correct pronuciation of some of the things we read about every day??
In real life I have NO scrapping friends...well maybe a couple who use stickers to put photos on 5-for-$1 pretty paper, but that's the extent of it.
So I was reading the other night and saw that Copic (as in the markers) is pronounced with a long O...as in 'Go pick apples'...and in my head I thought it was more like 'Cop' as in police.
That got me thinking...what is the correct pronunciation for Bazzill? I want to say 'Buzz-eel' but is it more like 'basil' (herb)?
And when I was in Archivers yesterday asking if they had the Basic Grey Archaic line....she said no...'We have only gotten Wazzle' (rhymed with waddle like a duck)...is that how you pronounce Wassail?? I thought it was like 'Wa (as in What) -Sail'??
I know there are more...but those are the ones that are bugging me...LOL

Cricut is another one. I've often wondered about some of the things you mentioned also - I'm the only scrappy person in my circle so I never get the chance to "talk" products with others either.

If the girl at the store is from my family, I can understand the zzz and sss thing! LOL I grew up learning to speak English with a very bad Danish accent and still say grazz and glazz and my hubby still makes fun of me when I need to get gazz! LOL

When I first saw cricut, I was pronouncing it wrong in my hear. But, I saw it on QVC, so I knew it was pronounced like the but.
In my head, I've been pronouncing copic like co-captain.
I was also pronouncing Bazzill like razzle dazzle.
I'd not seen the BG wassail paper, but as a teenager I know I would have pronounced it wrong. At some point, I learned the correct pronounciation,so I would have gotten that one.
One that gets me is coluzzle. I pronounce it to rhyme with a puzzle, but I know someone who pronounces it coluzle like loser or Suzie, if that makes sense.
You guys are the best I feel so understood, and not alone when I log on come across these fabulous threads. I used to quickly read cricut, as being pronounced Circuit!! As in electricity!

Ha, I actually know that one from watching Carol Duvall! It's pronounced as if the T is not there: "soo-kin-ek-o" with the emphasis on "ek".
Is the "ek" eck? or is it eeck?
I wondered about all of the ones mentioned by the OP ... knew wassail, but had to ask about Cricut, Copics and Bazzill. The only one I was getting right was Bazzill.
So... Coluzzle I'm told is like puzzle. Of course, I always thought co - loo - zle :rolleyes: .
I'd like to add some {{{ applause, applause, applause }}} for the OP for asking ... for everyone's sake!
Recently on Ideal World in the UK (like QVC), they spent a whole hour trying to work out how to say 'grosgrain'. I always said grograin as in 'grow'grain' but they said it was gros-grain or more groz-like OZ grain!!
I'm sure it's grow grain-not sure whu but it's presumably French so would be grow gran I suupose really!!
I have no idea if you will follow my attempts at explaining pronounciation!! It's funny reading this post though.
Then of course there's the geographical alterations...! I say tom ah toe, you say tom ay toe!!!!!
What an educational thread for me!! All along in my mind I've been saying Bazzill similar to Brazil! I also had Copic wrong (I was using the cop (police) version. Thanks for enlightening me! :-)

This is a funny thread. I picture all of us sitting at our computers, moving our lips carefully, hoping we are saying things right!

On the grosgrain.... I too used to say Gros (as in floss) grain, until a couple years ago when I heard someone else more experienced than i say Grow-grain, so I naturally assumed they knew what they were talking about since they had a few years more experience than I.
When Memento ink was new (not long ago), I kept trying to search for it and wondered why I couldnt find it hardly anywhere and then I looked more closely at the spelling.... I had been saying "Moe-mento", therefore spelling it that way. I think it is pronounced Meh-MEN-toe, with emphasis on the MEN part.

I was saying Cry-cut, until a store owner told me it's like cricket-
I've been saying Bazzill like in Brazil. Coluzzle like in puzzle. Tsukinecko 'soo' as in tsumani, Copick like (as someone said) co-pilot, only co-pick.
We've always pronounced 'wassail' as wass (rhyming with moss, a hissying 's') and then the ail as sort of 'uhl', emphasis on the wass part.
Coluzzle first came out with a large puzzle--the idea was that you could cut a picture or message into a bunch of puzzle pieces for a recipient to put together, or you could do a scrapbook page as a collage of photos that fit into a nice round oval. So...it's name really IS a rhyme for puzzle.
I've said Bazzill like the country Brazil, so I'm glad to know the correct pronunciation.

i too said CRY-cut. but only in my head.. i was at M's and two ladies were talking about how stupid SOME people can be saying CRY-cut instead of cricket.. like, DUH! there's a cricket on the box... and i was like yah, how stupid can some people be! hehe... :oops:
the one word i find MOST people say wrong is guillotine.. they say gill-oh-teen, when, in fact, it's Gee-uh-teen. (like geezer)

Oh my gosh... how funny we are!!!! HA HA HA Now my mother does NOT do this stuff... get on computers... so I HAVE to tell you all. My mom misprounces things sometimes I think ON PURPOSE!!!! My sister and I REFUSE to go places with her... for instance... she needed a new TREADMILL. WHICH she proceeded to ask the "exercise store" salesman, "Where are you THREADmills!!!!" OMG!!!! She says it ALL the time... "I need to get on my THREADmill." HA HA! Gotta love moms!! No wait... one more... she told me she had to go have "MAMMIEgram!!!!" My best friend about died when I told her and she said... "Now WHY didn't you ever tell me your mom had a Mammie?????!!!!!" LOL Thanks for the laughs girls!!!!! P.S. I love my mom dearly... glad she never gets online!!! LOL
I've heard people pronounce it mammiogram.
I know someone else who says abestos instead of asbestos, but I guess I'm getting a little off track.
I can't think of any other crafting words offhand.
I find this thread interesting, too. My sister mispronounces (non-stamping)stuff, too. A couple of my favorites are Stewatress (flight attendent) and Stefascope (instrument used to listen to hearts). I love her dearly, and she laughs as much as I do when I tease her! LOL

This thread is funny. I used to prounounce the Copic markers "cop-ic" instead of "cope-ic" until a few months ago I read another thread on here which explained how to pronounce it.
When I first saw the Cricut, I pronounced it "cry-cut" too. But then I noticed the little cricket, and thought, "duh!"
I got Bazzill right, luckily, but I've always pronounced Wassail to rhyme with "jostle." I think because of how I heard that song, "here we come a wassailing among the leaves so green..."
I have been pronouncing Tsukineko as "Soo kin ay ko", so now I will correct myself. lol
Oh this is so funny....I was so afraid I would look like an idiot asking how to say something!! Thanks to all of you girls for sharing that I am not the only one wondering how to say some of this stuff!!
I have found a few things by watching the videos on them...not the ones by users, but the ones by the manufacturers. That's the only reason I got Cricut and Xyron...or I would be saying those wrong I think!!
The bad part about knowing the correct version, is that some of the clerks think you have it wrong. I called Dick Blick yesterday and asked about Copics (long O) and the girl says 'oh you mean 'Cop'-ic?' (police). Not really...but who am I to argue??

I've heard that one before as well.
I have to admit, I used to say "fudgeicle" instead of "fudgesickle". I think it started when I was a little kid. Luckily, I've learned the error of my ways. Besides, I almost never eat them any more.

Ok, so I go into a Michaels about a year or so ago and ask about the "cricket"...the sales lady looks at me kinda funny and says "ooohhh you mean the CRY-cut" :rolleyes: . I'm like duh...there IS a cricket on the box but if you, who works at Michaels, say it is pronounced CRY-cut, then CRY-cut it must be! :confused: LOL
Now, the Sizzix....that one confuses me. Is it SIZE-ex or is it Sizz-ex or is it Seize-ex????

Glad to know that about Copics; I've been mispronouncing that one for sure.
How about "I could care less" rather than "I could NOT care less?" When people tell me that the could care less, I think "Have at it."
And here's another - was in Target one day looking for some Celtic (Kel tik) music for a friend; couldn't find it, so I inquired. The clerk corrected my pronunciation, "You mean Celtic (Sel tik)." I said, "No, that would be a basketball team. I'm looking for music from an ancient civlization."
Well, Cora-Beth Godsey WAS my Grandmother! (Just kidding but her twin sister!) Therefore I have always known that Wassail is a Welsh drink. Sort of an alcoholic grog that is drunk around Christmas time and was HOME MADE by the dear old gal, who was very proud of her Welsh background. Thanks for the education on the other craft stuff. Wouldn't you think companies would just make easy names?

Ok--I just have to throw in my pet peeve about a non-papercrafting word...nuclear. It's supposed to be new-clear. LOTS of people in this area say new-cu-leer. (Cu--as in "cute" without the last sound).
Oh, and another one...people in this area say "across" with a "t" at the end: accrost. I hear it ALL the time, but never heard that till I moved to this area.
Thanks for a fun thread about the papercrafting things...I've had to ask on some of these when I first learned about them. Glad I'm not the only one! ;-)

Yes, ACROST makes me crazy too. As does HEIGHTH (height) and something I had never seen until I started coming to SCS: PROLLY (probably).
A product name that I used to find confusing is "Imaginisce." I wasn't sure whether the last syllable was pronounced "iss" or "ees." I'm pretty sure it's "iss," because the name seems to be a combination of "imagine" and "reminisce."
