Default pumpkin poop

Does anyone think that this is inappropriate for a 3rd grade class? You know the bags of candy corn with the pumpkin poop poem? We have to do packaged goodies for the party friday. I thought this would be cute and I think my son will love the idea. But do you think other parents would be offended?

What is the Pumpkin Poop Poem?

It sounds fab and as a parent i wouldn't be offended at all.

Can't wait to see the finished project so don't forget to post a pic.

No matter what, you will always get a parent who will get their panties all in a bunch over stuff like that. I'm fortunate that I live in Los Angeles and our school is way liberal so stuff like that goes over well.

I'd do it and then if anyone complains, take the resposibility so the teachers doen't get flack. I have a 3rd grader as well and she would tell me that it rocks!

I think that they are really funny, and I agree with the other poster who said that if parents are offended they are way to serious. With some of the things that kids say now adays this is mild. I would go ahead and make them up, the kids will love them and by the time they get the package home the poem will probably have been riped off the bag anyway, if other kids are like mine when it comes to candy. Let us know how they turn out.

As a retired teacher of 2nd and 3rd graders (37 years!) I would think it is very funny. However, you should probably run it past the teacher first just to make sure she (or he) isn't too uptight to find it funny. Save yourself some worry.

Well, I asked a few parents at a Cub Scout meeting last night and they thought it was very funny and they said that if they had known about it before they would have made them for our meeting last night!

Would the children even read the little poem that was on the package? Either all they would see was the word "poop" and use that word or just see the candy and eat it.

I would also think the "poop" word would get used a bit more than adults would want to hear too.

Ok, these are just my thoughts and I will note that I don't have any human children. But I have been know to make Kitty Litter Cake.

I would ask the teacher first. If someone is offended she/he would end up hearing about it, so she/he should have a heads up about it before the party. The teacher probably already knows if there is a group of parents that would be offended and may ask you to go in another direction with the treat.

Sometimes the best policy is "when in doubt, don't."

Having said that, I love these poems myself and I'm handing out a few of these at Halloween. I'm using orange tic tacs and covering the box in patterned paper. I'm doing something similar to what I saw in this blog http://impressionsbyrochelle.blogspot.com/

I don't know - as a volunteer tutor I was raked over the coals by a parent for bringing in sprinkles to decorate cookies with (they contained food dye and I was told I was polluting her child). That really made me conservative and I am sooo careful what I do now. I thinking a pumpkin taking a poop because it got scared may set some parents off.

Cute idea. I would not have objected when my daughter was in third grade. But kids will be kids, so my suggestion would be to give them out towards the end of the party. That way, if a few kids start focusing over the poop word, it won't distract from the rest of the party.

Here's the thing.. The kids won't have time to eat at their party. We are making treat bags for them and while they are playing games and such we will place the treats in their bags. They truly have just an hour after their parade to do stuff.

Would these be inappropriate for 1st graders? I'm making some for my son's 4th grade class, but am undecided about the 6 year olds.

What do you think?

I made these for some adult friends, but I changed the poem a little b/c I didn't really like how it went, but still used "poop". They got a kick out of it.

I am the type that think people get way too offended by things these days, but I def can picture a bunch of 3rd graders, high on sugar, running around a classroom yelling "poop!" ha...

I guess asking the teacher/school first would be a good idea. How about just changing it to Pumpkin goo or goop? And spare the teacher any parental problems.

good luck!

I am on both sides of it. I had someone give me a Secrect Santa gift with Snow man poop I didnt find it funny, I felt it was more as an insult, but that is because I knew who did it.

Now as for it being this case it might be fine, kids will like it or not understand it ,but no harm. The parents well.. it can go either way. Teacher may not approve if she knows how the parents or kids would react. I say go for it.

I PERSONALLY find the cat poop/tootsie roll. litter box treat/gag more disturbing than the topic here. Yuk to me.

haha! That just made me laugh as it is QUITE gross, but I do find it funny - and was thinking I could use it to play a joke on my Sister-in-Law (after all who doesn't want to terrorize their in-law's in some way?? :-D)
