o wire measurements for bind-it-all?

Hello,

Wondering if someone could explain the measurements of the O wires for the bind-it-all to me? If it says 1 1/4 what does that measurement represent? the space between rings or the width of the rings? I'm assuming width but want to be sure.

What's a good standard size?

What about a size for a small book that is about 1/2 thick?

oh- and is there an option to use a spiral coil instead of the o wires???

The measurement is for the opening of the "circle" of the closed binder - the diameter. If your book is 1/2" thick, you'd want an o-wire that is at least 3/4" to make room to turn the pages.

I'm trying to remember what the correct pitch is for the o-wires. It's either 3:1 or 2:1. That would be for how many holes/wire per inch. If you can find a spiral binding that is the same pitch, I don't see why you couldn't use that.

The pitch represents how many holes per inch - does anyone that has one know how many there are per inch? Its usually an average of an 11 inch length.

According to Bonnie's Best Tools, the pitch is 2:1. Bonnie has the best prices on o-wires. They aren't the Zutter brand, but sure are comparable. (I have both and can only tell them apart based on the box I take them out of.)

thanks again! I'll send her an email and see if she has any spiral coils that work with the bind-it-all. i'm not really a fan of owires only because a lot of times they 'stick' and make the 'book' hard to open.

darn - i just read her shipping info - she doesn't ship internationally :(

The bind-it-all uses o-wires that are 2:1 pitch (meaning it punches 2 slots per inch). The 1.25 inch refers to the diameter of the wire after it's been closed. Hope that helps.

If you go to the Bind-it-all website there is a wealth of information there to answer your questions. Also lots of ideas for projects.

The video is of no value (in my opinion), but the written information is great!

We get this question often because people love the many color choices available with spiral coils. (We stock 24 coil colors, and that's only half of the colors offered by coil manufacturers!)

The Bind-it-All punches 2 holes per inch, so binding wires for the BIA must be in the 2:1 pitch.

Spiral coils used with machines such as the RubiCoil have 4 holes per inch (4:1 pitch), so unfortunately, the two types of binding media are not compatible.

I always measure the thickness of my project first and then get the next size up.

For coaster calendars, coaster post it note holders, coaster books or small tag books using the top note or scallop envelope die I use 3/4 coils

For mini one sheet paper books or meander books 1/2 coils work well enough

For Card Organizers I tend to use 1 or 1 1/4 depending on how embellished the pages or cards will be.

I use those 4 sizes the most when I'm making books.

Thanks for the details! I mostly plan on making small booklet type things (small meaning thin) so I think the 1/2 would work. I wish you could buy 1-2 of each and in each color!!!! rather then buying at least 6 of each.
