This week's challenge is one that I have been wanting to do but have been putting off for a long time. This item is something not everyone has and also I kept putting off finding mine and digging it out. This week the challenge is to use POLYSHRINK or shrink plastic in your stamping creations. This product used to be available through SU and can also be found in many hobby and craft stores. I believe I also heard somewhere that you can use some of the clear plastic lids that you get food or other things in at the grocery store. If someone knows anything about this, please let us know.

I'm doing a stamping night for the girl's in our youth group adn was thinking they might have fun with some polyshrink so I can't wait to see what ideas you come up with this week.
How do you get the polyshrink to not curl up so fast? I've made a few Christmas ornaments, but it took forever b/c I couldn't control how fast it shrunk. I used a heatgun and in my toaster oven. Any tips?

GarnetJ that was so funny. It is 11:14 pm and I was half asleep when I started to read your post. I am now awake from laughing at it. I need to get some polyshrink and try it. I always wanted to make something from it.
Okay, it's now 2:30 AM, I can't sleep so here I am laughing my myself silly over Beaver and Wally! GarnetJ, you can come over to my house and I'll share my polyshrink with you! I have black, beige and sort of clear. The clear stinks real bad for months if I cook it in the oven so let's do the heat gun trick, okay!

Polyshrink........one of my favorite techniques. It is ok if your piece curls, just keep heating with your gun and it will uncurl. I use my double boiler pot because it is deep so your piece can fly around without flying out......also you can hold your piece down with a chop stick or fork or whatever until you are finished shrinking. Be sure after you stamp your image with stazon ink that you let it dry completely before cutting out. I also like to use TP to color in more stazon ink onto the dry stamped image. Let that dry before shrinking. If you are not totally happy with your shrinked image you can continue shrinking even if your piece has cooled. Can you tell I have done a few?!? Try it........it is really fun. Hope this helps, Nancy
I tried the plastic substitute shrinking this morning and the plastic I used actually worked quite well. GarnetJ...sorry yours didn't work out...your post was too funny though and made my morning. My keyboard is not happy with the coffee on it though! The plastic I used was the very thin brittle clear plastic I got muffins in at the bakery...hope this helps someone out. ****Disclaimer....use at your own risk!****
I would think it would be fine to use a punch. Might even sharpen your punch. The gallery is acting up right now.....can't wait to see everyone's cards..after I stop laughing that is............

I used a punch on mine but found the Marvy long reach to work better than the hand held but mine were small objects as you'll see...if the gallery cooperates. Oh and I forgot to list that the punch was a 1/8" hole size.
I loved these little punkins when I saw this stamp at a resale event. They look like their trying so hard to me mean looking but it just isn't working...to cute!
Great fun with the polyshrink and after re reading my 2:30 post to this thread I can tell I needed sleep - my myself! It's Beaver and Wally's fault! Here's the card
FYI, if you use a hole punch on the polyshrink, don't hold it down with a stylus while you heat! I used a stylus on one and put it through the hole, but when the hole shrunk I couldn't get it off the stylus because of the ball on the end of it!

Thanks for the tips! I made a cute card for my step-father's b-day. I'm so excited now that I know how to use Polyshrink. I wasn't heating it long enough. I don't have a gallery yet, but hope to have one soon.
Well, mine isn't the best example. I had uploaded it a couple of weeks ago. I had made fabric frames with the L, O, V, E in each corner and wanted a card to go along with it so I shrunk the letters and mounted on the card. I think I would have been happier if the letters hadn't looked so dark. IRL the contrast isn't as great!
Here is my card using polyshrink. I colored the images on the paper and polyshrink with prismacolor pencils.
I teach a 4th and 5th grade Sunday School class. We made polyshrink cross necklaces (they colored and I shrunk....to keep the church from burning down). They LOVED it! I think polyshrink brings out the kid in all of us! Hee Hee
I fnished this up yesterday but couldn't get it uploaded, I tried fifteen times in a row and gave up last night. It worked first thing this morning on the first try before the world was awake yet!

I was looking through these threads as a newbie looking for inspiration and I went upstairs to play with Polyshrink plastic, and I discovered that the polished stone effect works great on the shrink plastic. So far I have only tried clear plastic but it really does work well.
