I don't use computer graphics on my cards as a general rule, but I have in the past when I didn't have a particular stamp that I needed. (two checkered flags)
I do. Sometimes I draw the graphic. Sometimes I use free downloadable images. (doverpublications.com has some good ones!) And some of these free fonts are sure alot prettier than my hand writing.
Yes I have used the computer to print out a sentiment that I needed right then but didn't have a stamp for... like I didn't have a sympathy stamp and I was making cards with my Mom and she wanted to make a couple sympathy cards - so I printed 2 different fonts, and picked my favorite once I had it on paper and could see how it complimented the style and design of the card. I think it can look just as good as a stamp!
I don't think I've ever used an image from the computer, but sometimes I will type off a sentiment when I don't have the stamp for a particular saying.
My brother had the weirdest request for a card. He wanted a girl playing a Euphonium wearing a ceremonial guard uniform.. I was like, OK.. I was only able to find the Euphonium clip art, but there was no way i was going to go looking for something random like that in a stamp.. That's the ONLY time i've ever used a computer generated image.

Sometimes I print off a verse or type my own sentiment for the insides of my cards, but I usually use a stamped sentiment on the front of the card. I rarely use a computer generated image for card making, but I sometimes get some free clip art from the Microsoft Design Gallery to use in my scrapbooks.
Never images, but I do print out sentiments as needed. Lots of the ones I do on the computer are Bible verses using a nice font (often with a drop capital to begin the verse) and then print them to use in my stamped cards.
Plus, if making a batch of cards as a gift for someone else to be using, I will sometimes type up a sympathy verse or thinking of you verse that says "we are" in the verse --- (being single, I tend not to buy stamps that use the plural reference).
I am thinking of printing some sentiments for holiday cards.
So far I have only printed 1 image to use on a card, because I didn't have the stamp and couldn't afford to buy one, but I only print images that I can color and decorate for my cards.
I might if I could get my printer to print anything nicely besides photos so I often resort to careful handwriting. I've also been known to spell it out with small letter stamps too.

I am embarrassed to say I have never thought about doing this! Duh! I just always assumed I needed to stamp it which means buy more stamps to get the sentiments I need :o After reading this thread, I need to start using my computer for cards.
I do it quite often...then print on SU cardstock and mat for the inside of the card...great way to get any sentiment you want in any type...
Blessings.
I use my computer for sentiments often as I don't have as many sentiment cards as I would like. I'm working on rectifying that though. As for my sentiments, I often select a font that I like and use some of the free downloadable fonts. One other thing that I do is print the font in a color that complements the card (e.g. Wild Wasabi, Blue Bayou, etc). I found the codes for the colors on the Downloads forum. What a great resource!
I use my computer and printer often to create sentiments because:
a) I have a quirky sense of humor and can't find stamps to match what I want to say. Plus I'm too lazy to use my alpha stamps to make a sentiment.
b) I usually design the card first, realize that I haven't left enough room for my existing sentiment stamp, so I need to make something that fits.
c) I'm picky about fonts. I really wholeheartedly believe that fonts have personalities that work best for certain sentiments. Some fonts are playful, some are artsy, some are serene, and some are serious.
I've used clip art and/or altered photos on my computer when I don't have the appropriate stamp. My metro-gnome cards are perfect examples of this.
I love combining mediums...digital and stamps...I prefer to use my stamps but sometimes an idea just comes to me and I go looking for some image on the computer of something I don't have. I used a photo of a flower that my son took and put it on a card. My sentiments for the inside of the cards though are almost always computer generated because it is more flexible and how many times can I use the same sentiment stamp on the inside of a card for someone's birthday for example. If every card I make is unique, I like the inside of my card to be just as unique so I select the sentiments to match the person I'm giving it too. We live in a wonderful age of computers and I think it is great to use them to enhance our craft if we want to.
I used to use the computer to print out poems/sayings for the inside, but for the past couple of years, the computer is ignored while I'm crafting unless I'm trying to follow a Zindorf tutorial. It just feels like too much of a hassle to get the computer and take it to the printer (a whole 15 steps away in my husband's study). Mostly I don't put any sentiments on the inside, and stamp the sentiment on the outside. I've accumulated so many "happy birthday", "thank you", and other sentiments through the various sets I purchase, i haven't felt the need to have something customized on the computer. Plus, I'm just lazy sometimes so I will make something good enough work for the project!
I'm more likely to type up journaling for a scrapbook page than anything for a card, but I haven't done that in a long time either.
I will definitely use the computer for a sentiment I don't have in a stamp. I do find it to be a pain it the rear to download fonts though, and Word doesn't have many funky or whimsical fonts.
I use my computer do make up sentiments when I don't have the right stamp to use. I love to do them in color too. It's easy to practice on scrap paper and then tape your cardstock onto the scrap paper to postion it correectly. I use repositional tape so I don't rip my paper and ruin it.
I have goofed around trying to print off images but they always smear and looky crummy when I try to color them (ink isn't permanent).
I have printed off some great background papers from Canon creative art park (or something like that- can't recall the specific name right now). But that really burns up your inkjets very quickly. Also have printed some vintage images for cards too.
I would love to be able to print off more images if they didn't smear all the time, but most that I have found have been too childish and cartooney for my taste.
I use the computer for the insides of cards when I am mass producing. For example, invitations, my christmas cards and things like that. Otherwise I try to use stamps.

I guess this means you can put card stock in the computer?

Yep :-D With mine (Epson rx510) the whisper white and very vanilla go through easily and with the thicker cardstock it might just need a bit of push so the printer can 'grab' it but for both it prints really easily.
Haven't used it for either images or sentiments but mostly for journalling for scrapbooks.
Nope. I'm hopelessly lazy. My computer/printer was in the basement, and my craft room is on the second floor. Now, DH's new 'puter/printer is on the first floor, but then I'd have to turn it on.... I use a laptop that's not hooked to a printer.
I guess I've only done it on rare occassions. Its just something I don't think of doing.

I print out quotes all the time just on regular paper but I just recently had to print out digital files to make a card with - I went to staples and had them use their color photo copy machine and it worked fine on SU cardstock (I wouldnt try papertrey which is a lot thicker) and it even EMBOSSED the image - it looked really cool. You can kind of see the embossing on the card here (it is the first card posted)
I wonder why the color copier embossed? Strange to me.....but it didn't even bleed with markers. I got 6 copies prepared for damage and frustration but it was easy peasy.
The only images I print on my computer for my cards are photographs to put on my cards. Obviously, I'm not coloring them in.
I also print the the sentiments I put on my cards....on the front, directly print on card.....inside printed on 24# silk, linen or laid paper (cream, natural or off white).
I like to choose the font and size to work with the theme of the card.
I print sentiments now and then when I don't have the appropriate stamp. I like having the ability to choose font and size. I never print images because it just doesn't look right to me.
One thing I've found extremely helpful when mass producing cards (like Shower invitations) is to print the whole text on the bottom of a page (one on the right and one on the left), cut the page in two lengthwise, score halfway and then mount the card front. Saves a ton of time and looks very professional.

i have been starting to learn some basic graphic design for the last year and a little bit, so i am starting to create my own sentiments - then i print them on kodak full sheet photo paper, and punch or cut them out - they look like high quality stickers or rub ons - pretty nice. this is nice when i am making more than a few of the same card!
I do keep a nice variety of sentiment stamps and stickers, because they are much faster if i am just going to make one or two cards
p.s. i definitely print on my cardstock, but my generic craft store stuff - not the SU! thick kind - that gets jammed too easily - it's better to have the cheaper stuff when running through the printer (although the SU! looks really nice and like MetalCharm said, I help guide it through the printer)
I'm definitely going to start doing this regularly. Right now I'm really liking the simple, clean, sentiments stamps for card fronts I'm seeing out there - single, basic words like, "Congratulations", or "Hello". Many of them use Times New Roman - how much more basic can you get? LOL! So I'm thinking, why am I spending $$$$ for this when I can print out a sheet of them, trim them and have them ready to adhere when I need them? I can print them in any color ink, but I prefer my sentiments in black anyway, so it works perfectly for me.
I print sentiments quite a bit..it just depends on the card, plus there are so many cute free fonts to donwload on the internet...It saves me money not having to buy so many sentiment stamps, which is always a good thing lol!!

I do this too for the same reason and especially if it's a more personalized card where I want to include a personal note, sometimes editing comes in very handy!!!

I'll print out sayings for the cards sometimes, if I can't find a quote sticker or something that will work. I also print out dingbats sometimes to use as a template for either papercutting or stitching.
