Make Your Own Glue Dots

I found this idea, somewhere, but cannot remember where or who discovered it. However, I tried it and .... IT WORKS!

You can make your own glue dots by dropping blobs (any size you like) of Aleene's Tack It Over and Over glue onto waxed paper.

I did this and folded the excess waxed paper over top, once they were 'dry'.

All I have to do is open up the waxed paper, pick off one of the blobs (eeewww ... sounds disgusting ... but isn't!) and use like regular store-bought glue dots. They are great and way cheaper!

Also the dots can be moved before they 'set' so, if you get a wrong placement, at first, you can pick them off and move them. Bonus!

Just thought I'd pass along this tip ... which was someone else's so I'd give credit if my mind would recall the name. Whoever you are, you rock!:p

I was JuST thinking this the other day...

I am off to walmart tomorrow to get some aileens!! How do you make them flat and not so roundish?

Here's what I'm thinking...cut long narrow strip of wax paper like about an inch wide...put down some spots, spaced alittle....then have another strip on wax paper the same size...place it over the spots and smash down alittle to make them flat...then just store them with the wax paper together...when almost gone...reuse paper and make more...:rolleyes:

To answer StampinMellisa's question, the dots I made came out pretty flat. I didn't use a LOT of the glue. Jellychick's idea is right, the top layer of waxed paper can be used to smoosh them a bit, if needed.

To Stamps&Cars: I've found that these adhere pretty well but haven't used them for a long period so not sure how they stand up in the long haul. However, they are pretty sticky and I have adhered metal charms and buttons with them to great success. Used the larger blob in those cases.

One thing I like - vis-a-vis the 'real thing' - is that you can move something easily, before you let them 'set'.

Guess the best bet is to try it and see if it works, for you. I've been happy with this tip, myself.

Wish to heck I could remember where I found this idea and credit the originator. I'll have to just send it out into the multiverse and hope it finds it's way. ;)

I understand you use "Aleene's tack it over", it this glue a "must"? Would regular Aleene glue do the same? The regular one can be found at Walmart, I have never seen the other one anywhere.. Thanks for answering

Hello Mariette,

No, the Aleene's regular Tacky Glue doesn't work. Nor the gel glue. I've tried both and the only one with which I have had success is the Over & Over.

Other types may work but I haven't tried those.

I bought the Tack It Over & Over at Michael's. Our Michael's stores are not large ones so, I would think, you should be able to find it in your nearest location. Or some local scrapbook stores may carry it, too.

If, by chance, you try another brand or type of glue, and it works, you may want to post that result, here, for others.

I have this glue, since I use it on my rubber stamps to use with acrylic blocks!

I'm going to try this! I know when I get that glue on my hands, I have to use Goo Gone to get it off my fingers!

It is VERY adhesive!

I think I'll try wrapping the strips of wax paper around the unused wheels I have since I unmounted my wheels! (I have 10 empty wheels)

P.S. - Goo Gone works great to get the glue off the paint brush I use to paint on the glue on the backs of my bare rubber stamps. HOWEVER, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT use GooGone on your rubber!

I am a little confused. I googled this glue, and it talks about using it for appliques and how you can remove them and use them over. How would the glue hold permanently what ever embellishment you stick on? Thanks! I really wanted to get some of this glue!

Hello bemidjibelle,

The glue is, as you see, made for the fabric purpose but this is another use for it. As you know, people come up with cool, nontraditional, ideas for using stuff and this is one of them.

I have found that the glue dots, made with this glue, are really sticky and hold as well as the 'real' thing. I stick ribbon knots on cards with them and they adhere very well. But you might want to try, for yourself. Everyone's experience may be different.

Boy this sounds great! Have you found that the glue bleeds through the paper at all. I received a stamp of Zots or the like in a magazine and it was quite old and had bled oily kinda through the paper. I really like the idea that you can reposition it. Thanks for blessing my day.!

This sounds like a super idea. Do the dots dry clear or do they stay white? I haven't seen tack it over and over for years...not since the Alleens craft show on TV. Wonder what ever happened to that bunch?

The Tack It Over and Over glue is clear so the dots are clear, not white.
I, too, watched those shows with Aileen and her daughters. Also, used to watch Carol Duvall and both of these shows are no longer shown, here.

The UK has a great 2-hour long crafting cards show on a station called QVC but it has yet to come to Canada. Not sure about the U.S.
