Default What up with THIS demo?

I went to a Home Party trade show so-to-speak tonight. There were all sorts of home party reps there: SU, Creative Memories, Tupperware, Mary Kay, Weekender, Jocus, Norwex, blah blah blah. Anyway, one of my friends went to the SU table and saw a card she really liked. She asked this demonstrator how she did this certain technique, and the lady wouldn't tell her! But the thing was, she didn't say ANYTHING! She just sat there with a dumb grin on her face and wouldn't even acknowledge that the question was asked! Am I totally off base with this? If you were a demonstrator at a table, would you keep all your techniques a secret?

I was just appalled. But that's just me. Saw it as bad business. Made her look pretty snooty.

That's my two cents on that!

As an afterthought, she could've said, "I'd be happy to come to your home to demonstrate this technique to you and some of your friends"

Yes no?

This may sound weird, but she may be "hard of hearing" (what a strange expression that is.) My husband is deaf in one ear and in a very noisy room he simply cannot hear when people talk to him (it's hard to distinguish where sounds are coming from). So sometimes he just grins and nods his way through it.

This may not have been the case, but I just wanted to throw that out as a possiblity.

Sounds pretty rude to me. I would have told the lady about the technique and probably told her I would be happy to demo the technique at her workshop.

Wow she really missed a great selling opportunity. You are right to be appalled I would be too, cause I believe its enthusiasm that sells our products!!

A missed opportunity for her. I'm not a demo, but she should have said something like, "Oh, I'd love to show you this and more, would you be interested in booking a party?". Or, if she could briefly explain the technique, and then said she could go into more depth and show more ideas at a workshop. What she did was a turn-off, not good for sales. You reap what you sow. Scatter seeds of kindness (as the stamp set says).

Well if this is how she operates she probably won't be a demo very long. Not really good business practice.

Maybe it wasn't a card she made and she had no idea but didn't want to say so. I have met demos like that. They avoid the question because they honestly don't have a clue. Maybe it was something she got in a swap or something. She still should have said SOMETHING though.

I had the same thought as Joy... I have swap cards and there are some that are awesome but I don't know how to do them. BUT if I was displaying cards at a show like that I WOULD NOT take those cards there if I didn't know how to do them.

I do that all the time. I am deaf in my left ear and makes it impossible at the bars, craft fairs and other noisy places to understand much.

OR maybe she was watching the booth for the demonstartor to return who knows but that sure is weird cause even if she was watching the booth as a helper she should have still been talkative with people passing by Thats a little to werid for me ... I love to share everything i know with others demo or not (Thats the exciting part to me ) I suppose she set the example of what NOT to be like huh?

Well, now I know what NOT to do! Not that I ever would ignore someone. Have been asked to participate in a like event at the end of the month - waiting approval from SU!. If anything I tend to give out too much information. I want everyone to share my obsession -then it isn't an obsession anymore, but normal!

Default Demo needs to watch Disney Channel Cartoons....

That Demo needs to watch DChC with Max and his Good Manners.........

If she is that behind on her lessons of good manners, maybe she needs to start over......

Default Whats with this demo?

Reminds me of a stamp camp I attended at a demo's home. She had a technique on a card I asked what it was...she smiled oh tooo sweetly and told me to pay for the next stamp camp and she would tell me. Needless to say I switched to another demonstrator and looked up the technique on the Internet. Never did go to another of her parties.

What a dumb thing to do.

I like to arm my customers with as much info as possible. That way they realize they need all these great accessories that they can buy from me.
