Default What to buy to make unmounted stamps stick......

to the acrylic block. I don't want the mounting cushion but rather the adhesive. Can I get it at Michaels?

some people just use plain ole double sided sticky tape from walmart. you can find wider double sided sticky tapes from packing stores.

I use poster tape. It is not as sticky as regular doublesided tape, and will not make a mess of your blocks.

There's another option but I will have to add that I haven't tried it personally...but I've read where you can substitute the Aileene's Tack it Over and Over (which I have tried and don't like) with just a basic glue stick (I would assume repositionable glue, as opposed to anything permanently bonding.
Lot's of options out there for using unmounted stamps - try a few and see which is your preferred way! Enjoy!

I usually go the EZ-mount route, but I have to admit that sometimes when I have been in a hurry to try a new stamp and not wanted to take the time to do several on the mount and cut them, I have just used glue stick. Pritt is what I have, don't know if that's also available over there. It's not repositionable, even, but it comes off when I stick the block in water for a few minutes. It's messy in the long run, though: I would only consider it as a temporary emergency meausre, albeit one which works perfectly.

I just use a strip of removable Mono tape, it works like a charm! no mess, you just rub off the adhesive when you're done and it takes 2 seconds!

Good Luck!

I thought I read on the Purple Onion Designs blog that the owner uses 3M Poster tape on her bare rubber. It is repositionable and doesn't leave goo on the acrylic block. I have not tried this method since I like using the ez mount foam on my unmounted stamps. Or as someone already mentioned, you can use double stick tape, but it is so hard to get the tape off of the block - you have to use Goo Gone.

I know you already mention that you don't like using creative cling (ez mount), but CC designs is currently selling ez mount that is a little thinner than the regular one (black foam, I think).

At any rate, I love to use unmounted or acrylic stamps...they are so easy to use.

This is THE BEST option. I've used all of the above products over the past ten years. Now I am going back to TIO&O for everything. You only need to put it on the back of the stamp once and it lasts for years.

I started with EZ-Mount and while it is a good product I've now found that the Tack 'n Peel product is EXCELLENT. Yes it is pricey, coming in 6" x 4" sheets at around $US9.50 but you just put this on one side of your acrylic blocks set------------ and never have to do anything else other than press your un-mounted stamps to it, and peel off again. It's that simple. The product packet says if the tackiness starts phasing out you only need to spritz with water to refreshen and rejuvinate.

Mounted vs unmounted stamps is an article I wrote relating to the virtues of both.

Did you look in the "crafts" section? The place where they have all the stencil paints and stuff like that. The Tack It Over and Over is not in the stamping/scrapbook section.

This is what I do also. I have a bunch on EZmount but I also use bare rubber with the Tack'n'Peel and it works great. I also stick my brand new SU stamps with the backing paper still on right to the Tack'n'Peel. They stick and then peel right off again with the backing paper still intact.

There is now another option. Tacky Spray! It is over in the craft sections with the TIO&O, but is in a BLUE bottle with white writting. It is a spray - easy to use and works great.

I think a lot of people didn't care for TOI&O because if you use too much of it it is awful! I small, and I mean small-thin coat is all it takes.

Try the new spray!

I must say I use Ez-mount foam. I like having some cushion under my stamps.
And since most of the stamps that I purchase already come with (Ez-mount) foam. This is what I use.

There are some places that you can get this foam pretty cheap. This place carries it and sells it for $3.15 a sheet.
http://www.beeswaxrubberstamps.com/accessories.htm Which is the best price I have found.

Even when I purchase unmounted Rubber stamps that don't come with Cling foam I use the Ez-mount foam. And then I place my Stamps in my Notebook that I store my stamps in.

I buy the TIO&O at Wal-Mart. It's right next to the Tacky Glue.

For those who are searching, you need to know that the original purpose for TIO&O is not rubber stamping. It is made for temporary application of applique items to your clothing. So retail staff may not know what you want if you tell them it's for rubber stamps. Check it out here... TIO&O

Hi - for those who use Tack N Peel... I have some SU stamps I don't like double mounted and thought I could take them off the block and then use the tack n peel over the sticky of the SU stamp - KWIM?? The set I am referring to is the definintion set and I guess it would't matter if I lost the cushion. I already have CTMH stamps and blocks and was going to use those blocks. Would the Tack it Over and Over be a better product ?? I think I have a total of 3 SU sets that are double mounted.

Thanks for any input!! Happy Stamping !!

In my store, it was in the section where they have the heating tools, Ranger Alcohol Inks, by the inkpads. Hope this helps!

If you are using bare rubber stamp only with no cushion, are you getting a clean stamped image without the cushion? Just a wondering.

Hi Karen *waving*. I just stamp without any cushion. It does take a bit of getting used to though. I've heard that people will sometime stamp on a mouse pad or a magazine, you could try that.

I use Tack N PEEL and love it. It actually has a tiny bit of cushioning to it. But you can use a mouse pad under the cardstock, too, if you want more cushioning.

I have found that either way, I do get a crisp, clear image.

If you check A.C. Moore.com, they have Tack N Peel. Also, they sometimes have a shipping special- $4.99 shipping no matter what your total is. That's a good time to buy the Tack N Peel since it usually runs around $8 or $9, I think.

I have many unmounted stamps {buy because of the cost}. I just ink the stamp-lay it face up on a magazine-put my cardstock on top of the stamp and rub with my hand. Simple to do and this method works well for me.

I just ordered the margarita set from Taylored Expressions and really like the ability to peel and stick the rubber. Is this similar to the Tack n Peel you have been referring to? I have some old Stampin Up sets that I would like to remove from the blocks and put the same adhesive cling on them. Would I need to take the stamps to the bare rubber? Thanks for your help.

The tack-n-peel is similar, except that the sticky part is on the block instead of on the stamp.

The static-cling cushion that is used is called EZ Mount, or Creative Cling. It comes in two thicknesses; the thin type is supposedly to use in addition to the cushion that's already on the stamp; the thicker type is for stamps that are bare rubber. In my humble opinion, the thin added to existing cushion is too thick.

If you don't want to take your SU stamps down to bare rubber, you can use repositionable glue right over the sticky cushion after it comes off the wood. Most people use Aleene's Tack-It-Over-And-Over; I found that the Mono Multi in the white and green bottle works really well, too. Be aware, though, that sometimes the stamp makes the choice for you! Some of them the rubber pulls off the foam a lot easier than the foam pulls away from the wood!

I'll tell you how I choose to handle my unmounteds (which is 97% of my stamps ). If they come off the wood with the cushion intact, I coat them with Mono Multi. Sometimes I cover the sticky back with clear packing tape first; it makes it easier to spread the glue in a thin, even layer. (On a new, never-mounted SU set, I apply the indexing label to the back of the cushion.) If the rubber decides it wants to be free, I use some double-stick tape on a block to test how it stamps with rubber only. If I get a clear impression, I'll either apply Mono Multi directly to the rubber, or I'll use the thin EZ Mount - depending on how thin the rubber feels. If the stamp needs thicker cushion to get a good impression, it gets the thicker EZ Mount. The exception is, for some weird reason I need my stamp sets to be uniform. So if one stamp in the set ends up pulling away without the cushion, then I take all of them down to bare rubber and use the same glue or EZ Mount on all of them. There's really no good reason for this, just my weirdness.

I have written an article on Helium site re rubber stamps mounted vs unmounted and it explains the Tack n Peel process. I LOVE the Tack n Peel; wish I'd know of it when I first started with rubber stamping.

Just know that when it starts to lose its tackiness, just moisten it well, I just lay the block on a piece of damp towelling. Later you'll find your Tack n Peel is ready to go again, just like new.
