What do you all think about Nicole's announcement on her blog regarding the templates?

I think its a great idea actually! I've been a frequent blog stalker of Lauren Meaders and her ideas/projects are fabulous, IMO.

Same here, I thought I was the only one who would think $5 kinda high for a printable template. Not to mention why would someone buy when there are hundreds of free templates available right here on SCS? Not to mention on other sites. I think unless Lauren M comes out with some super-duper-never-seen-before projects I won't be buying them. I love her blog and read it every day and wish her more great success though.

One of the best things about these templates is that there is no measuring. Just print off your computer and go. No resizing, no rulers needed. I LOVE that!

I like the idea, but I think the cost is high, especially with all the templates available for free. However, if people buy them, more power to her.

I like the idea, but don't tend to enjoy templates you print out simply because
I don't like the print and score lines that are left.

I usually print them using a light colored ink and only if the lines are on the inside, but I totally get your point!

To each her own, but personally, I wouldn't pay $5 just to be able to print and cut a template for myself. There are so many wonderful free ones on the Internet that, if I wanted to do all that work, I would use those.

Hi Ladies,
I have never used templates much, but I've had the opportunity to use these templates that Lauren designed and they are so easy and wonderful to use. If you are worried about the lines, the templates are meant to be just printed on the backside. Like if you want to print the template on patterned paper, print the template on the backside so no one will ever see the lines once the item is assembled. With the purchase of the template, you also receive a file with examples and ideas from the design team (photos, instructions, supply lists) for 5 or 6 projects. These are exclusive to the purchase of the template and won't be posted anywhere else.

I went to Lauren's blog and see that the first template she is offering is free starting Oct 15th. So I will definitely download that one. I doubt I would get others. Not because of the cost, which probably isn't that bad considering you can use it over and over again. But more because, even though I think her projects are terrific, I can't see me having a use for any of these fancy boxes or taking the time to make one or more even with a template. Plus, if you read the posting, it suggests using a Scor-Pal with her templates since all of the projects have multiple folds. I don't have one of these and with a limited crafting budget, can't see me spending $40 to get one just to be able to use the templates.

I don't have the scor-pal and don't think it or any other scor tool is necessary (I think PTI is doing what's called "upselling")! It is just as easy to use a ruler and a bone folder or other item to make a fold, especially if the lines are already printed out.

i think it's a great idea. lauren is talented, and i'm sure that people will gladly pay that for the template and the project idea sheet.

and as for the scor-pal suggestion, they aren't saying you HAVE to buy one. just saying that they use it. and find it helpful. yeah, it is called 'upselling'. but it's like going to a SU! workshop and buying a set of stamps, and your demo suggesting all of the accessories to go with the stamps, such as a matching wheel, a couple ink pads, paper, etc. it's no different. you don't HAVE to buy it.

Yes, I hope I didn't come across as criticizing upselling!! If I were selling anything, I'd do the same thing. Sometimes it is great to have a demo or store say, if you want to do something, you need certain tools.

Think of $5 spread over a class or large stamp camp. You could print multiples from the same download, yes? Then you would have something ready to cut, score and stamp and assemble that would be new and different from the millions of boxes we've all done. I'm keeping an eye out for sure!

You can definitely print multiples from the same download.

Having made some of the things she's posted on her blog, I am excited about the prospect of the template. I don't have a scor-pal, just a ruler; but what I created from her inspiration was phenomenal! I would mass-produce for that $5 for sure.

You pay more than $5 for a stamp which you can use over and over again. Buying these templates is the same thing and without the storage problems LOL
I love Lauren's work and will certainly check them out as they are released. Another plus no waiting for the post for delivery.

I'm so excited for Lauren! She is the QUEEN of the templates, that girl's a genius, I can't think of a better person for PTI to partner with on this.

I think $5 is TOTALLY reasonable for having all of that design work done for you and project ideas, too! You can use them over and over...for $5. That's a bargain, IMO.

I don't usually do a lot of 3D projects, but the ease of having these templates might encourage me to do more!

If it is something we want, we will buy it. No differnt than a single sheet of paper for a $ or more, this can be re-used forever!

After seeing the wonderful things that they both are able create, you know these templates will be outstanding!

If you read her whole story about the templates you'll see that she is offering her first on for free on Oct 15th. I love what she has done and honestly, if I really wanted to do that particular project, I'd pay the $5.

I think it is a wonderful idea. I'd personally pay the $5 for the template. You can use it multiple times. Her ideas are fresh and innovative and I believe that she'll be successful with this new twist on PTI website. With all the talented designers that are on the PTI team I dare people not to get the bug to buy.

I think it will be nice to have great templates handy. Many are here and free, but I might see something I like at PTI and download it, too. i suppose it depends on my mood and how many I think I will make for $5.00 a template.

And yes, you don't need a special scoring device, but man do I ever love my Scor Pal. I got it for Christmas last year and I score so quick and easy with it. It's a dream to use. Gotta have it? maybe not. But if you do, you'll love it.

Awesome!!!
I can think of many things I've wasted $5 on!#!#!# LOL
I don't think this idea will be one of them.
Like many of you, I don't do many boxes etc. BUT, with this idea I may just do more.

It didn't even occur to me what a wonderful thing this would be for a class. I'm not generally a template person. Do you download it to your computer and save it and print as many as you like? Or do you download it every time you want it? I think I might try the free one on the 15th. Maybe I don't do so many 3D projects because I don't have templates! I can see these being a lot of fun.

I balked a little at the price, but I'm becoming convinced by you all that it's quite reasonable. I would love to do a class with something like the cookie "Brrrrr..." box shown on the blog. It never would have crossed my mind without the template being made available.

From what I read on Nichole's blog your $5 give you "lifetime use" of the template. Based on what Lauren has done in the past with templates, thats a great use of my $5.

I was planning to make caramels for my husband's co-workers for Christmas and HELLO that box called to me! I know I will at least get the free one and the one they showed today and maybe more! I know that I'm not near as creative to figure these things out, but I love that people think you are when you give them away!

For those that think it's too expensive and not a good value, don't buy them. That's what's so great about being in a democratic society. No one tells you what to buy.

I'm very excited about the new project and Lauren's excitement is certainly contagious!

Lauren posted some FAQ'stoday on her blog.

Lauren's blog today said that it would be published, but she doesn't know when.

Q. IF you are using the Bun in the Oven box as a template when is it coming out?
A. Sorry, you will have to be patient! LOL! I truly dont know exactly when each item is being released, as sometimes we may want to push something up or back to suit a particular NEED for a release!

I think it's wonderful and I wish her great success!! She is so talented and am very glad that her templates will be available for purchase. If the template appeals to me, I will definately buy it. I can't even begin to comprehend how to create a template on my own and thank goodness I don't have to now!!!!

I am hoping that the Bun in the Oven template will be available soon!!!!!!!!!!

Too flippin cute!!!

I think they are adorable. I also think that, just like in any other type of product, some people will pay for extra convenience while others wouldn't dream of it, lol. I have a SIL who refuses to buy cold cuts because she'd rather buy a whole ham, cook it, and use her meat slicer. OK, it may be WAY cheaper to do it that way, but c'mon, lol! I'd rather just watch for a good price in the grocery ads...kwim?

It's true, too, that with the purchase of these, one is also getting some design ideas that are exclusive to the purchasers. Well, exclusive for a time, anyway...some folks don't mind waiting to see them as others post "their" creations with them. Again, it's just a matter of deciding priorities...get it first or get it eventually. To each her own, I guess.

I say good for Lauren, and I wish her much success!

Ditto what Betsy said. I subscribe to Lauren's blog because her projects and cards are so awesome! I also will see what the first free template offering is, and if there is a template that I just can't live without, I don't think $5.00 is too much to pay for something that I cannot duplicate. I'm sure there will be templates that I won't really want, but it's nice to have choices. I also don't have a scor pal and don't plan to buy one soon, but I know they are nice if you are mass producing projects.

I can't decide yet. lol
I'm a pretty new stamper and just within the last couple of weeks have gotten into making different kinds of little boxes. I'm loving it! I could probably see myself buying one or two of them, but I don't like anything that is too challenging or time consuming.
I'm a serious PTI addict though, so if you ask me a year from now I'll probably own them all. lol
