Default Help - beginner supplies

A friend (who has never made cards before) and I are going to a crop tonight. I told her to buy a paper trimmer and some adhesive.... I plan on making a little "welcome" kit for her of my extras.... now what do you think I should include?

Good black stamp pad (I assume you are going to share your stamps)
Brads
Stickles or glitter
White cardstock
Colored cardstock
Patterned paper
ribbon

Have fun! I wish I had someone to stamp with.

I agree with the good black stamp pad.
Also, scissors and maybe some brads. Those little embellishments make a card look so much more "finished.

Tell her to save one of her first cards. She think it's great and then go back in a couple of years and giggle at her first attempts.

If she new to stamping and not sure that she will like it.

Why not make a card kit for her. This way the cutting will be done.

You could add a Stamp set and a Ink Pad for her to use. This way she not out a lot of money.

The card kit could be 6 cards using one stamp set, Something that she could color. with markers or colored pencils.

This is just an idea

Im a new paper crafter, so I am going to list out what I wish I'd had starting out.. lol

*GOOD scissors.
*Those little sticky foam lifty things that make stuff be raised up off the card. I STILL dont have any! LOL
*Some pretty flowers.
* Maybe a little baggy of some punched pieces. Someone gave me some little tags, envies, etc. LOVED THEM!!!!
*and atleast a 10 minute live instruction session on HOW to change the refill in a stupid tape runner!

Great ideas here!

Since I make my own stamp cleaner, I would give her a bottle of cleaner and a painter's pad for cleaning her stamps. If you use baby wipes, maybe put a few in a stamp clam shell box to get her started? Gotta get that good black ink off, lol! If you don't have an extra black ink pad, then maybe you could stamp some images to give her.

I would also give her some kind of adhesive.

I love the idea of the stamp cleaner. Good scissors definitely are a must have, and I love ribbon, even on a simple card, I think it makes it pop! So my addition would be ribbon.

If I were just starting out, I would buy:

Versafine Black Ink Pad
Prismacolor pencils in basic colors
White eraser to blend the pencils
3L tape runner
Pop Dots
Bone Folder
Brads
Ribbon

Thumbs up

So are you making cards at the crop instead of scrapbooking?
Either way, maybe this will be helpful!

P.S. We have scrapbooking challenges here on SCS, come check us out!

You know earlier in the message thread I sugguested a card kit.

But that wouldn't work.

Why not let them use some of your supplies, To see if she likes Card making or Scrapping. This way she wouldn't be out of bunch of money if she didn't like it.

I've done this at a Crop that I go too. And it has helped the person decide if they like it well enough to buy their own supplies.

In fact when I go to Crops. I take all my stamping stuff with me. As I do not Scrapbook.

Well she LOVED it! I took a lot of my scraps and made them to a little bundle, picked out some cardstock, a good black inkpad and some $1 stamps (and one of the dollar acrylic blocks!!). She used some of my stamps (I also threw in some "extra" embellies I had) and I showed her how to put embellies on and she had a grand ole time

Thanks for the pdf. Wow...great advice. I especially like the part about picking pictures that speak to you. I am soooo tired on 'sitting and spinning' with ones that don't. Thanks, again!

Make sure to tell her about SCS! I am not very creative, but I can always get good ideas from here when I am stuck. Also, if she is thinking about a certain stamp set, she can see examples on here to help her decide. All the advice is wonderful.
