Default For those that have made those scalloped spiders...

First - those are the cutest darn things!

I made some with mini peanut butter cups and they are so cute but I was wondering what kind of adhesive you are using. Snail isn't cutting it. Do you use the red tape?

Thanks

i save the red line tape for 'heavy duty' stuff.

I'm pretty sure this is what they are talking about:

Scalloped Spider Treats by casegj at Splitcoaststampers

I just love these! I was thinking about making them for my son's preschool class and I really like the idea of using Peanut Butter Cups instead of the Peppermint Patties (just a note here: to be careful some children are allergic to peanuts).

Those spiders ROCK! How cute are they ?!?! there is a company -don't know their name- but they make round flat foil wrapped chocolates, plain and krispy and I think others, and usually sell in bulk at the grocery store. That might work if you don't want pnut butter or pprmint patties.

We used glue dots. My son actually brought them in for show & tell yesterday and then handed them out to his first grade class. Since there is a no candy policy, we adhered them to pencils. They were a huge hit!

Though I liked the way the 1 3/4" circle looked better than the scalloped circle. I have to punch out cardstock as the kindergarten teacher is going to make them (as pencil toppers) for the kindergarten's Halloween Party using googley eyes.

I personally think Snail is crappy. I use Dotto. I just made 24 of those spiders today and I used Dotto with no problem. I did use a liquid glue for the layering of the legs.

I used a combination of snail and glue dots for my spiders and frankensteins. Snail on the scallop circles, glue dots for the small pieces like the eyes. I also used "Monster Munny" which is a chocolate/rice crisp "coin" type candy. Fits nicely inside the SU! scallop circle and I found the bags at our dollar store so much cheaper than buying the name brand stuff like the York peppermint patties!

There's a pic of mine on my blog!

I have a picture of spiders and frankensteins (and the candy I used) on my blog here:

http://stampinsilva.blogspot.com

My spiders are a little different than the ones posted above, but my kids still got a kick out of them! I'm thinking of trying a ghost and a ladybug next. I love my scallop circle punch!

I helped a friend do 90 of the spiders last night, we used zip dry liquid glue. Took us about three hours, she punched, glued legs together, then I put the bodies together with the candy, and embellished. We put them on a big tray with Halloween tissue paper, with extra candy. So cute.

we are using lollipops for the spiders. I love all the other ideas though. I am torn now. The pumpins would be so much easier than the spiders to do with all the kids. I might just have to change my plan. Thanks for sharing all your great ideas.

I used both red sticky strip and glue dots to adhere my spiders to the candy!

Ok,I apologize in advance, I think this will win me the 'dumbest question' award...but where do you buy googly eyes? Can you find them at places like Wal-Mart?

yes - you can buy them in the craft section of Walmart or any Michael's, JoAnn's, AC Moore type craft store.

Thanks! I am so limited on shopping time, that I need to know exactly where I'm going and what I am going to get...not much time for browsing and that used to be my favorite thing. :(

I bought mine at Michael's. They had different sizes (4mm, 5mm, and 6mm). The ones I selected were the 5mm in size. If you're doing these with small children, the 6mm might be a little better to use...larger eyes, easier to handle. I found the 5mm to be a nice size in proportion to the size of the scallop circle I was using though. I think the 4mm would just be way too small.

At our Michaels, the googlie eyes were in the rows with kid craft type stuff like foam sheets, paints, etc. The package I bought had 400 googlie eyes and was under $3.00. The package says "wiggle eyes", but I just like saying googlie eyes more and the salesperson knew what I was talking about!

HTH!

Aren't they the cutest darn things, though?

I made them with the peppermint patties and found the glue dots and glue lines more than enough to hold them together. In fact, I cut back on the amount of adhesive I used b/c I didn't need so much.

I like the Duck brand and the Scotch Brand. Wally World used to carry Duck, but all I've been able to find is the Scotch for awhile. Where are you getting your double-sided Duck tape, please? It's a little cheaper than the Scotch brand, at least as far as I've found.

Default Other flat round candy

I saw earlier that someone mentioned another candy brand that sells candy similiar to Peppermint Patties and peanut butter cups. It's Palmer Chocolates, and yes, they usually have milk chocolate and Krispy (brand name knock off) chocolate discs. Sometimes they even have carmel-filled ones...

Thanks so much for bringing this scallop spider to my attention! TOO CUTE!

Umm....I think I just answered my own question....LOL I was wondering what the pumpkin looked like, but then I just saw it when I clicked on this link listed earlier on this thread:

Scallop Circle Treats by Cryth at Splitcoaststampers

Those pumpkins sure are cute! I wanted to make the spiders for my son's preschool, but I don't have the photo corners punch. Now that I saw the pumpkins maybe I can make them instead.

I used double sided tape and it held up well...so far...and mini glue dots for the little bits worked too.

I was so inspired by the spiders that I came up with a few more critters that I uploaded this am:

I am now addicted to making punch characters LOL - they are such fun :-D
