2008 Fall Gathering at Cedar Creek, Wausau Wisconsin
Anyone interested in a Shoebox Swap this Fall?
We are planning a shoebox swap on Saturday, October 18, 2008
1:00 - 6:00 at the Cedar Creek Lodge in Wausau WI
All the details are finished yet, but we're trying to get an idea for those interested...
We're thinking $25.00 registration fee.
We have block of rooms saved amd we can get a discounted rate of $125.10 for a room with 4 waterpark passes...
We look forward to hearing from fellow stampers in Wisconsin that can join us!
This sounds like a good time! I just went to a fantastic meet in Baraga MI and am so pumped to get together with other stampers...it was so much fun! We did a full card swap and a shoe box swap. They were both alot of fun and we all came home with alot of beautiful cards! I live in Marquette, MI and would be very willing to go to drive to Wasau! Would us Yoopers be able to attend?
Where could I get more info about this place that you are going to have this at? I am curious about the water park! I love them!
Crazybusy - our daughter gets married in two weeks, and I go back to school in three weeks. (I'm in the MBA program at the UW-Madison).
The wedding is in California, so we've had to deal with long-distance planning issues...we are very excited and looking forward to it, though. We are expecting 100 people total, including the former German host parents, who are making their very first trip to the US just for the wedding!
So - between those two things, life is hectic. That's why a retreat to the Northwoods is just what the doctor ordered!
Even if it is a small group it should be fun - thank you to Jodi and Joanie for organizing it this year.
Hope everything is going well for you this summer.
Talk to you again soon -
Melanie

Mel! You busy girl!! I am so excited for you for school starting, that's awesome. A good friend of mine's husband just went through that program, he graduated last year. He loved it - but a lot of work of course, group work and study time. He got a better job before he even graduated though so it's a great thing to have! Good luck (I'm sure you won't need it -- maybe "best wishes" would be a better term?).
I am working to see if we will make it up there - at least this year I can GUARANTEE I won't be pregnant and on emergency bed rest, LOL. DS#1 will love the water park & I really want to come.
Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a registration form posted on another thread for this swap. I was so excited when I found it last night. Hope lots of people sign up.
Has anyone decided yet if you will be making all the cards there, or if some are pre-made? Personally I enjoy making all the cards at the event. It's fun to hopefully see and learn new things.
We have about 25 people interested right now, we have room for 50. if we stay where we're at we will make them all at the swap but it the # attending increases we may do 1/2 and 1/2. We'll see once registrations start coming in...
That sounds good to me. I do understand that once the # gets higher, it is more hectic finishing all the cards. I'm really happy that there's going to be a swap this year. I was starting to worry. Now I need to decide how many other things I want to sign up for!
anyone else planning on staying at the hotel friday night?
my group will be there on fri. night. two of our original group can't come but 2 cousins and an aunt of one of the members want to get in on the fun they are the ones that got me started stamping.

Everyone attending comes up with a card, then depending on the number of people participating you put all the supplies and paper whatever you used to make your card in a shoebox. The day of the event, the shoeboxes get set up around the room and then everyone goes around the room and makes everyone elses cards.
So if there are 25 people coming - You make up one of you cards as a sample and put it with your box. In your box include everything you used to make it all cut and ready for the others to make. Paper, (Full sized cards, (not card fronts), Ink, ribbon, anything you used to color it, scissor if needed, glitter, etc. Except for Mono adhesive or glue sticks, unless it was something special, Everyone is to bring their own adhesive... You then go around the room and make the others cards. You will make 24. It shouldn't be anything too time consuming because we only have so much time, but then you end up with 24 cards besides your own. It's a great day, lots of fun and great ideas.
The shoebox swap part is required for all attendees. If we get more the 25 attendees we will probably make up half of the cards, say 12 premade of your own card and that way we go around and make half of them there but we still get one of each. That will be determined when we get closer to the deadline for signing up.
The optional parts of the swap are: Individual Swap, This is for a fullsize card premade, if 25 people particiapate you make 24 cards (all the same) and swap with each of the participants, You get 24 different cards in return. (Optional)
Anything but a Card Swap: This is for any 3-d item, notebook, candy rapper or holder, little gift box, pretty much anything but a card... There is a section in the gallery that is called Anything but a card and there are alot of great ideas there, If 25 people do this you make 24 (all the same item) and in return you get one of each of the others. This is an optional swap, very fun though.
Lottery Item: This is one item that you create, (something better than a card) Notebook, picture frame, stationary, paint can, a wow item. Everybody participating brings 1 item. Then we number them, everyone who brought an item picks a number and gets an item back, also optional.
Hope this helps, If you've never been to a shoebox swap, its really a fun day of stamping! This will be the 5th year for this gathering. Hope you'll join us. Anymore questions let me know.
